Same here. I work my butt off at every job I'm hired to do, so someone should just hire me already. After putting in my last five jobs, references, and the jobs ethics questionnaire, it usually takes me about an hour and a half to fill out a single application for a minimum wage job. It also takes forever writing a new cover letter, and editing the wording on my resume whenever I apply for a professional job. I hate job searches and I hate the economy. xp Did you know that about 20% of the current unemployed population are people who very recently graduated from college? No one wants to hire us now that we spend thousands of dollars and years studying to get ahead! gonk

The thing is, college is starting to lose it's value. cheaper, faster, more job-focused technical and vocational schools are turning out professionals that have had a focused education in what they need to perform the job, as opposed to college grads who have who knows how many credits from what may have been great classes, but are effectively worthless to their careers. Apart from that, if you want to be an entrepreneur, apprenticeship is supposedly the way to go.

Aside from all that, since there are less jobs and just as many, if not more people, most places that require educated professionals are looking for experience. So my associates degree is kinda just rotting off in a corner.

By he way, what's considered a good GPA? above a what?

It really depends on who you talk to. I'm a super a**l student, so I say that anything lower than a 3.5 on a 4 point scale is shameful (at least for me). But, most people look at anything above a 3.5 and think that you were an excellent student. Most people will look at anything in the 3.0-3.49 range and think that you were a good student. If your GPA is lower than a 3.0, it is advised not to put it on your resume because people will assume that you were a slacker and or not really trying.

I've been turned down countless times because of a lack of experience too. I graduated with a 3.79 with a bachelor's degree in English, so you would think that would count for something. I enjoyed college except for when I decided to be an education major, but I have to agree that it's pretty useless in a job search. College has become the new high school. The government keeps trying to push every student to go to college, but that's just making it harder on the intellectual types to go into their chosen fields. They used to have different tracks for people so that some could go to technical school and learn trades if studying wasn't really their thing, and I think that was a good idea. However, most education people look at tracking as an evil thing, and they want all students to be equal. I can tell you from personal experience that they want to squash gifted students and raise up low students to make everyone equally mediocre. I'm seriously considering teaching English abroad. I would like to go to Japan to do that, but it might not be the best time to go because of all the nuclear junk going on.

Ah. I finished with a 3.24 because I was depressed and had a complete lack of motivation for those two years. probably the worst years of my life, really. Moving here had a load of negative effects on my mental state. confused

I've been looking toward getting a degree or some sort of diploma/certificate in IT and would definitely give it a better go, being in a better place in my life. Mentally at least.

A 3.24 is still good. Employers will see that and know that you are studious. My brother, on the other hand has a 1.5 GPA. sweatdrop I was thinking about going back to school and getting a degree in programming. I've already completed all of the requirements except for my major courses in that. Computers aren't going to disappear anytime soon, so many programming would be a good way to go. I'm so confused right now that I don't know which way to go. I have so many options available, but none of them sound like sure ways to get a job. It's hard to decide what direction I want my life to take. Unlike video games, you can't reset and play again. One life is all we have, so we have to make the most of it right now. I just feel like I'm a beginner playing on expert mode right now. xp

Most of us are beginners playing on expert.

And the assbags on easy mode with their rich parents coast through life and rarely ever do anything worthwhile.

Maybe I'll sell my little brother to science. xp

I certainly don't have rich parents to get positions for me. xp I've heard that one of the most important things in finding a job is networking. Unfortunately, I don't have any contacts to get me any jobs. I have people who will give me good references, but I don't have any friends in high places. I'm going to a job fair on the 6th at my old university. Hopefully I'll find something there.

Why do you want to sell your little brother to science?

It was a cold, windy night, and Scythe had just sold his brother for science. They said that they were only going to monitor his brain activity after being presented with various images, but that wasn't the case. They took him to a room, strapped him to a chair, turned out the lights, and then turned on a projector. Sounds of rotating saw blades reverberated throughout the dark chamber as Scythe' brother struggled for freedom. "Let's see what makes you tick," the doctor said. He reached for his medical bag....and that's when the screaming started

A few hours later, Scythe brother walked into the house, finding scythe relaxing on the recliner.

Scythe: How'd it go?

Bro: Eh, the usual.

S: Why do they always scream?

B: Seriously, don't they know it won't help? * spots some blood on the back of his hand, frowns a bit* Bled like a kool-aid sponge

S:typical.

On a side note, Saw The black Swan today. Totally crazy, completely excellent. Thanks for recommending.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was the reference to Swan Lake that made me interested in the first place. I went to see the ballet with my mom a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it. I'm a fan of just about all the fine arts, but I never have really understood modern art.

Some modern art is really good. But there are some times where you look at what some guy made and you think "this a*****e just threw some stuff together and bullshitted his way into making people believe there's some deeper meaning behind it."

The one time I was hanging out with some Friends at the MoMA and one "sculpture" literally said the guy who made it just threw it together from random parts he had lying around.

The one time I was hanging out with some Friends at the MoMA and one "sculpture" literally said the guy who made it just threw it together from random parts he had lying around.

I had to study several different pieces of art when I took Art Appreciation, and some of the things that were done were unbelievable. The one artist, Marcel Duchamp, took a urinal from a condemned building, wrote a false name on it, and successfully submitted it to an art exhibition under the title of, "The Fountain." You have to give him credit for BSing his way into getting a used urinal to be seen as art, but I see it more as a funny joke than art. Then, some people like Jackson Pollock splatter paint every which way on a canvas and call it art. A 4-year-old could do the same thing. All of these paintings with one dot on it or sculpture that aren't supposed to resemble anything don't do a thing for me. I much prefer to admire the technique and creative genius of the masters. Even everyday portrait artists have talent and technique. There are some people who do modern art to make humorous pieces, surreal pieces, or pieces that make you think seriously about things, but I don't usually come across pieces like that too often. When something isn't even attempting to make a point, even one as simple as "This is a basket of fruit," then I have no patience for it.
