Declan Fraser
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Declan let out a hearty chuckle at Mira's response to his "workaholic" comment "Well are't we just a pair of bloodthirsty maniacs!" as he made his way though the room he evntually came to a pair of Iron reinforced doors that led to the main guild hall. Pushing them open, Declan put on an air of confidence a he walked to the main desk and waived for a staffer to assist him. a younger lady in guild regalia answered. 'Aoife, if i remember correctly.' Declan thought as he watched her approach. Reaching out he waved Mira over.

The conversation was brief and cordial but above all professional. It turned out that the fates and gods seemed to smile on Mira and he. the investigation was perhaps a fortnight to the south and east while the bandits were estimated to be a weeks journey down the Southern trade road. close enough to be a known entity but far enough away that any large scale mobilization from the city would be detected and either destroyed or avoided. this group had started to earn a name for themselves it turned out. "The Green Ghosts" due to there habit of attacking from the cover of the woods and fading away into them after their work was completed.

Turning to Mira, Declan summarized "so a weeks travel to the bandits and another weeks travel from them to the ruins baring unforeseen circumstances the return trip would be two weeks as well... what would be your thoughts on the matter? we could rent horses to speed things up and deal with the issue of supplies?"

Mira just rolled her eyes and walked inside the building with him. Joking around was not something that her normal working companions would do, but surprisingly, she wasn't completely against it. She hoped that she hadn't bitten off more than she could chew by agreeing to work with him, though. "Men and their murder."

As they stepped across the threshold, she saw the shift in his posture and arched her brow. Working with Declan Fraser was going to be a very interesting experience, she was sure of that. She watched him wave down some help and decided to let him handle the desk. She was curious to see how he handled others. Seeing him in the tavern was one side, but this would be his business side.

When he waved her over, Mira walked up to the desk, noticing a couple of raised eyebrows from the desk workers. She decided to ignore the looks, cordially greeted the woman behind the desk, and listened to Declan's conversation. She was pleased to hear that they would be able easily take both jobs. 'The Green Ghosts are in for a big surprise.'

Declan turned to her and she paced a little bit, starting to adjust the calculations in her head. After a moment she spoke, "Horses would speed things up, yes. They would certainly shave time off the travel, but there is the concern of keeping them safe while dealing with the bandits. Since we can't guess how long the mapping will take until we see the actual size of the ruins, having horses leans toward more pro than it does con."

Mira looked up at Declan, "In this case, taking horses seems like the best course of action. Taking everything into account, do you think you'll be ready to set out in two days? That would give you a little time to rest today from your journey, make preparations tomorrow, and get moving the next day."

Declan listened to Mira as she mulled over the suggestion of horses. The large man nodded when she gave her assent before glancing over to Aoife who in turn began to rummage beneath the counter for a few moments before setting out two guild vouchers. Retrieving a quill and with a few practiced movements she filled them out. before passing them over. the forms were addressed to a local stable that the guild had ties with "The Rusty Horseshoe".

Reading though the documents provided Declan smiled and then let out what seemed like a long held breath after Mira mentioned waiting for two days.

"The two days would be most welcome. It gives me some time to rest up and get out of my armor. would you want to meet up here at the hall after the days pass or do you have something else in mind?"

Mira thanked Aoife when she handed over the form. She read over it and put it away in one of her pouches. She had worked with "The Rusty Horseshoe" before and hoped that her favorite steed would be available. It was always better when she worked with an animal she already had a relationship with versus a new animal that she would have to learn.

Turningto Declan at his question, she nodded"Yes. I would say that would be easiest. We can meet here before going to get the horses and the get on our way. I will see you in two days."

Mira gave him a small wave and headed for the door of the guild. She had preparations to get started. Once she was outside, she took a moment to enjoy the sun on her skin and the fresh air in her lungs. There had been a number of people inside and she was glad to be outside.

A glance at the sun's position let her know that Lanora would be at her shop right now, so she started down the path to her destination.

Ooc: So sorry. This past week has been insane with work. I've only just been able to come up for air. As for the post, I plan on having her go through the 2 days in the next post, but I didn't want to time skip without giving you a chance to respond.

Declan took his form and bid his farewells to his newfound partner and to Aoife. The bank was Declan's next destination and there still was some daylight left so he set out with purpose. the walk itself was relaxing and the people were friendly as they were usually once they were able to take stock of the adventurer. The bank was as it usually was, tedious, slow and Declan always felt a little lopsided in his armor but with no arms after he checked his weaponry in at the strong-point in the Lobby. Though Declan always figured that it was better for the service to be slow and good than fast and bad.

With his money matters tended to. Declan began his final trek for the day back to his family's home. His mother, aunt cousins, brothers and single sister would certainly be happy to see him.

Mira strolled through the city as she made her way to Lanora's storefront. When she walked in, Lanora was working with a customer, so Mira decided to walk around and look at the wares on display. She became so engrossed with her browsing that she wasn't paying attention when Lanora finished with the transaction and was startled when her name was called.

"Mira! I wasn't expecting to see you again today."

After getting her heart back into her chest, Mira turned to face her best friend and smirked, "Why? You trying to get me out of the way so that you can bring your man home?"

Lanora shoved her shoulder, "Shut up. I just figured that you would have found a job and would be off adventuring. What brings you to my humble storefront today?"

Mira chuckled and said, "I did find a job and came to start making some preparations. I leave in two days and will be gone for a number of weeks. You'll have the house all to yourself for a while."

Lanora's eyes opened wide, "You're going on a long journey alone? Not that you couldn't, but..."

Mira shook her head, "Not alone."

Lanora's eyes opened impossibly wider, "What?!? You actually found someone you're willing to work with? And for an extended time? Is this a dream?"

Mira glared, "Yes. I am working with another guild member on a couple of jobs. What do you have for sale that would be useful?"

After shaking off her shock, Lanora helped Mira gather supplies and promised that she would take them home with her so that Mira could go and run a couple more errands.

After she was done at the store, Mira made her way down to the stable to see if she would be able to rent her preferred steed. She was pleasantly surprised to find that she would, in fact, be able to use the stallion. A little pep slid into her steps as she made her way around the city, taking care of her other errands. Eventually, the sun began its descent so she made her way home.

The next day, Mira spent her time organizing her supplies, caring for her equipment, and resting up before the next day's journey.

"Let's see. Weapons, and the means to repair or maintain them. Funds for trades along the way. All supplies portioned out. Plan is to supplement with hunting if possible. We will pick up food for the horses tomorrow from the stable. Spare sets of clothing and the means to repair them. All weapons have been sharpened. Medical supplies, incase of injury. Paper and things for the ruins job ready to go. Bags are packed, so the last thing is a full night of sleep."

Mira set her things near the door and helped Lanora with dinner. They ate and chatted for a while before Mira finally pulled herself away and crawled into her bed.

The day they were to leave, Mira woke at dawn from an uncomfortable dream. It hadn't been a nightmare, but it definitely wasn't a good dream. "Not quite the full night's sleep, but it'll have to be good enough." She shook the thoughts from her head and slid out of the warmth to go about her usual morning habits. She ate a quick meal before saying her goodbyes to Lanora. "I'll come back soon. I promise." They hugged tightly before Lanora fell back asleep. Mira had always been jealous of her friends ability to fall asleep almost anywhere and how quickly she slid into dreams.

Everything gathered, Mira decided to leave a bit early and make her way to the guild hall. She found a place where she could watch people pass by and settled in to wait for Declan.

Declan Fraser
_________________________________________________________________________________________

The two days passed all too quickly for Declan but what a wonderful two days they were, spending most of his time with his relatives and shopping around for supplies during the day while meticulously maintaining his equipment in the evening. His armor had been cleaned and reoiled to prevent rust. his sword and axe had been honed to a fine edge and his rucksack was packed with care. He was ready.

On the final evening before taking his leave once again to adventure, Declan's sister, Maeve, pulled her elder sibling away from the dog-pile of brothers in the front yard and, despite barely reaching her brothers chest in height, frog marched him over to a chair and sat him down for a stern talking to. Their brothers heckles died off after she shot them a look.

"Now you listen here you... I'll never forgive you if you get hurt out there and I don't know this new... partner of yours so you better come back in one piece, alright?"

She phrased it as a question but Declan knew and took the order for what it was with a small smile and a quick hug.

"Of course, Mae' you know me."

"We ALL know you and that's why shes telling you." added the voice of Kinkaid, one of the pairs brothers.

Soon the entire family gathered all with their own well wishes and the occasional ultimatum and then retired for the evening.

Declan awoke early as was his habit before journying out beyond the cities walls. quietly navigating through the house down to the family room and began to don his armor. thick boots were quickly followed by a padded gambeson, chain-mail hauberk and armored surcoat. all donned with practiced ease. giving one final tug on his gloves, Declan left his families home once again and began his trek back to the guild, the stables and to his new teammate and partner on this jaunt, Mira.

Mira spotted Declan from a ways off and chuckled softly to herself. "Well, I'll never miss him in a crowd." She stood up so that he would be able to spot her a bit easier. It wouldn't do for them to waste too much time this morning. The sooner they were on the road, the better.

As he came closer, she gave a short wave and moved to meet up with him, "Good morning, Declan. I hope you were able to rest up enough. Shall we make our way to the stables and get this journey started?"

She started down the familiar road soon spotted the stables. The owner had already brought out the horse that she would be taking. "That one is mine for this trip. I'll lash my things to the saddle while you talk to the owner for your steed." She made her way over to the horse and began sorting her gear into the right places. Once she was done, she grabbed the reins and said, "Ready to hunt some bandits?"

Declan smiled brightly when he caught sight of Mira's wave and greeting. tapping the loaded saddle bags and pack slung over the shoulder opposite his armaments to indicate their fullness

"I certainly did have a good two days. thank you for asking and yes I am ready."

Falling into step beside Mira, Declan took a moment to listen to the hubbub of the crowds going about their morning routines as they turned down a familiar road which lead up to the stables. Listening once more to Mira, Declan nodded in agreement before hitching his bags up once again and proceeding inwards.

The Stable master was easy enough to find and Declan greeted the man warmly as he did with most people he met and after some friendly banter back and forth the to began to discuss business. Declan was pleased to find the the stable had recently invested in several trained Gylsayen Clydesdales which would suit his purposes just fine. Finalizing his guild paperwork, Declan acquainted himself with his new traveling companion, whom he learned was named Vicar. Before saddling up and lashing down his pack and bags.

Finally ready to leave took hold of the rains and lead Vicar out to where he could see Mira and her horse idling. Declan's smile briefly turned vicious at the thought of the task ahead of them before returning to normal, though it did not quite reach his eyes. A telltale sign that he was indeed alert and ready.

"Always ready to hunt."

As they approached the city gates could not help but observe Mira and her horse. Curiosity piqued, Declan asked.

"You seem very at ease in the saddle. Mira, do you have some history with horses?"

Mira swiftly swung up into her saddle while Declan spoke with the Stable Master and let her steed get used to her weight. She stroked the strong neck below her as her gaze drifted to Declan again. She could hear the tones of his conversation. He gave off an air of friendliness and warmth that put most at ease. Mira wasn't uncomfortable around him, but she wasn't at ease yet. That was going to take some time. There was definitely something more to Declan and she looked forward to learning about it. She still couldn't figure out why it had been so easy to agree to work with him. There was simply something about him that intrigued her and since that didn't happen often, she wanted to see where things went.

She looked up at the sky to see where the sun was. It was early enough that the usual foot traffic wasn't up, but people were starting to move around. With the horses, they would be able to make it a good distance toward the bandits today. The sooner they dealt with the bandits, the sooner they could get to the ruins. Excitement simmered in her gut at the thought of the ruins. It wasn't all that often that she had a chance to see pieces of the old world, other than passing by on a trip, and she was looking forward to it.

Taking out a map she had purchased not long ago, she studied it while Declan finished up. There were a number of routes they could take, but they all started off the main road. She had heard a few mentions of the bandits that they were seeking, but nothing too concrete. Mira wondered if Declan had heard any news, but decided to wait until later to ask. They could enjoy the morning for a little before getting down to business.

Mira was glad when she was able to nudge her steed forward and they were finally moving down the road. "I've worked with this horse a number of times, so I guess you say that's history." She patted her horse's neck, "This girl has saved me a couple times, believe it or not." She looked over at Declan, "How about you? Do you use horses often? Given your stature and the equipment you use, I would imagine it would be hard to find many who can handle it all."

Declan listened to Mira as she remarked on her mount and responded in kind with her own question regarding his riding experience. As he worked on formulating his response he looked down at his mount for a moment.
"I must confess that I don't ride all that often. You are correct in that my build and preferred equipment leads to... restrictions. Remind me sometime to tell you about my first time mounted for a journey. I ended up with one of the most stubborn mules I had ever met. That was one interesting ride."
Reaching down he gave the Clydesdale a good pat and smiled when the horse let out a appreciative wicker.
"In the end though, I am capable as I was lucky enough to receive training but find myself more effective on my own two feet."
As they approached the southern keeps first gate that would eventually lead to the outside world, Declan reached down into one of his bags and removed a document case containing his paperwork along with a copy of the guild contracts that he and Mira had received.
Finding everything in order, and taking note of their position in the small line in front of the gate, Declan decided to change the conversation over towards what their plan was.
"So how do you want to do this once we finally get this underway? I would be best in the thick of our foes where I can do the most damage and dictating the tempo of the battle."

Mira couldn't help a short chuckle when he mentioned his first mounted trip. "It sounds like it could be an entertaining story. Perhaps it can be a fireside tale one evening."

She watched the interaction with his steed and said, "You may not ride often, but it seems that you work pretty well with them. Horses are smart animals, so the fact that that one is comfortable with you on top, is a good sign." She ran her hand through her steed's mane to reassure it in the crowd that they were moving through. Even though she knew how the horse handled, it didn't hurt to help keep things settled.

"How do I want to handle things....hm..." Mira considered how she had worked in the past and how Declan's style might fit in or what adjustments she would need to make to her own style.

"First things first, I would like to locate the bandits and figure out how many we are dealing with. So, once we get going, we should share information about them to see if we need to gather more." She pulled out her own papers to make sure everything was ready to go and within reach.

"Normally, what I do is try to get close to the camp at first, taking out as many as possible quietly, before I end up having to pull out my shield and larger blade to finish thing off. When it's just me, it helps keep things manageable. Even with your skillset, it might be a good idea to at least start off quietly and get rid of a few before sending you in like a boulder. Of course, this all depends on how we find the camp set up in the first place. How do you normally approach a group of bandits?"

Declan nodded after listening to Mira's initial plan for dealing with the mission and then asked how he would deal with the bandit situation on his own. Letting out a breath as they passed though the gates and exited into the outside world. Declan finally responded while watching the road ahead as it stretched out before them.

"My usual method is similar to yours though not as...subtle. I would assess the situation and take note of points or persons of interest like guards and leaders. I would then assault the camp when they were changing guard shifts and work my way through the camp. My goal is to break there moral and kill the leaders. Nine time out of ten they will then break and run after you cleave there leader and a good few of there buddies in twain. After they scatter, I hunt them down and deal with the smaller groups."

Pausing for a moment, the big man looked over to Mira and gave a small shrug.

"As I said similar but less subtle. and I think we will have plenty of time to come up with a plan once we find the bandits. it is supposed to be a weeks ride to their hunting grounds."

Lapsing into silence as they continued along the road, Declan smiled while watching several of the other travelers as they began to scatter at the first crossroads, the well worn paths spread out in the four cardinal directions. The road that they wanted lead eventually to the brush and darkened woods that was their goal.

So since we have about a week of this how do you want to divvy up the camping chores? I knew a gent who had the novel idea of betting chores but that only works if you have a big group to bet with...any thoughts?"

Mira listened to Declan's normal approach. They would probably need to discuss how they should combine or adjust the plan, but that could wait for fireside chats. There would be plenty of time. She knew one thing though, she was beginning to like Declan. Considering how long that normally took, it was surprising to her.

"So, basically, you like to play with your quarry." She chuckled softly. "Sounds like a little too much extra work for my tastes, having to hunt down the remainder of them. Leaves room for revenge missions." She had a thought strike her and she grinned, "I have an idea that I'll explain this evening. It might help us fit both styles into one. It'll depend on how the bandits are set up in the terrain, but you might like it."

Declan's chores question made her pause as she thought through everything that would be needed for camp. Mira's eyes passed over the landscape as she answered, "In the past, when I've been with other people, we would wait until we saw what kind of campsite we would be dealing with that evening and then we would decide from there. Sometimes circumstances were that we needed to both work on the same chore together to get it done in time. Otherwise, my go-to is to swap each day. When we camp at the ruins, we may need to adjust. Does that sound agreeable to you?"

Listening to Mira's assessment of his own combat style and her down to earth answer regarding camp chores, Declan snorted and chuckled lightly she wasn't right but she wasn't wrong either when it came to his way of combat.

"I would be more than willing to listen to whatever you have in mind. and your right about having to account for whatever they have and wherever the bandits are set up. Your right about the chores as well... guess we just need to wait and see."

Scratching the back of his neck for a moment and casting his gaze around their surroundings to ensure that there were not any nasty surprises about to bound down onto them, Declan lapsed into a comfortable silence.

As the brush and brambles grew in height grew punctuated by the occasional copse of trees, movement out of the corner of his eye immediately drew the adventurers attention. Blinking once and focusing in to the flicker Declan found himself observing a small heard of deer emerging from one of the copses. a good omen perhaps?

"One last question Mira, do you happen to be particularly superstitious or omen fearing? If so, I think we may be in luck. Some other adventurers I've worked with in the past would say that spotting deer was a sign of good fortune."

Declan said while slowly pointing the deer out.
