Mira
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Mira just rolled her eyes and walked inside the building with him. Joking around was not something that her normal working companions would do, but surprisingly, she wasn't completely against it. She hoped that she hadn't bitten off more than she could chew by agreeing to work with him, though. "Men and their murder."
As they stepped across the threshold, she saw the shift in his posture and arched her brow. Working with Declan Fraser was going to be a very interesting experience, she was sure of that. She watched him wave down some help and decided to let him handle the desk. She was curious to see how he handled others. Seeing him in the tavern was one side, but this would be his business side.
When he waved her over, Mira walked up to the desk, noticing a couple of raised eyebrows from the desk workers. She decided to ignore the looks, cordially greeted the woman behind the desk, and listened to Declan's conversation. She was pleased to hear that they would be able easily take both jobs. 'The Green Ghosts are in for a big surprise.'
Declan turned to her and she paced a little bit, starting to adjust the calculations in her head. After a moment she spoke, "Horses would speed things up, yes. They would certainly shave time off the travel, but there is the concern of keeping them safe while dealing with the bandits. Since we can't guess how long the mapping will take until we see the actual size of the ruins, having horses leans toward more pro than it does con."
Mira looked up at Declan, "In this case, taking horses seems like the best course of action. Taking everything into account, do you think you'll be ready to set out in two days? That would give you a little time to rest today from your journey, make preparations tomorrow, and get moving the next day."

Mira
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Mira strolled through the city as she made her way to Lanora's storefront. When she walked in, Lanora was working with a customer, so Mira decided to walk around and look at the wares on display. She became so engrossed with her browsing that she wasn't paying attention when Lanora finished with the transaction and was startled when her name was called.
"Mira! I wasn't expecting to see you again today."
After getting her heart back into her chest, Mira turned to face her best friend and smirked, "Why? You trying to get me out of the way so that you can bring your man home?"
Lanora shoved her shoulder, "Shut up. I just figured that you would have found a job and would be off adventuring. What brings you to my humble storefront today?"
Mira chuckled and said, "I did find a job and came to start making some preparations. I leave in two days and will be gone for a number of weeks. You'll have the house all to yourself for a while."
Lanora's eyes opened wide, "You're going on a long journey alone? Not that you couldn't, but..."
Mira shook her head, "Not alone."
Lanora's eyes opened impossibly wider, "What?!? You actually found someone you're willing to work with? And for an extended time? Is this a dream?"
Mira glared, "Yes. I am working with another guild member on a couple of jobs. What do you have for sale that would be useful?"
After shaking off her shock, Lanora helped Mira gather supplies and promised that she would take them home with her so that Mira could go and run a couple more errands.
After she was done at the store, Mira made her way down to the stable to see if she would be able to rent her preferred steed. She was pleasantly surprised to find that she would, in fact, be able to use the stallion. A little pep slid into her steps as she made her way around the city, taking care of her other errands. Eventually, the sun began its descent so she made her way home.
The next day, Mira spent her time organizing her supplies, caring for her equipment, and resting up before the next day's journey.
"Let's see. Weapons, and the means to repair or maintain them. Funds for trades along the way. All supplies portioned out. Plan is to supplement with hunting if possible. We will pick up food for the horses tomorrow from the stable. Spare sets of clothing and the means to repair them. All weapons have been sharpened. Medical supplies, incase of injury. Paper and things for the ruins job ready to go. Bags are packed, so the last thing is a full night of sleep."
Mira set her things near the door and helped Lanora with dinner. They ate and chatted for a while before Mira finally pulled herself away and crawled into her bed.
The day they were to leave, Mira woke at dawn from an uncomfortable dream. It hadn't been a nightmare, but it definitely wasn't a good dream. "Not quite the full night's sleep, but it'll have to be good enough." She shook the thoughts from her head and slid out of the warmth to go about her usual morning habits. She ate a quick meal before saying her goodbyes to Lanora. "I'll come back soon. I promise." They hugged tightly before Lanora fell back asleep. Mira had always been jealous of her friends ability to fall asleep almost anywhere and how quickly she slid into dreams.
Everything gathered, Mira decided to leave a bit early and make her way to the guild hall. She found a place where she could watch people pass by and settled in to wait for Declan.

Declan Fraser _________________________________________________________________________________________
The two days passed all too quickly for Declan but what a wonderful two days they were, spending most of his time with his relatives and shopping around for supplies during the day while meticulously maintaining his equipment in the evening. His armor had been cleaned and reoiled to prevent rust. his sword and axe had been honed to a fine edge and his rucksack was packed with care. He was ready.
On the final evening before taking his leave once again to adventure, Declan's sister, Maeve, pulled her elder sibling away from the dog-pile of brothers in the front yard and, despite barely reaching her brothers chest in height, frog marched him over to a chair and sat him down for a stern talking to. Their brothers heckles died off after she shot them a look.
"Now you listen here you... I'll never forgive you if you get hurt out there and I don't know this new... partner of yours so you better come back in one piece, alright?"
She phrased it as a question but Declan knew and took the order for what it was with a small smile and a quick hug.
"Of course, Mae' you know me."
"We ALL know you and that's why shes telling you." added the voice of Kinkaid, one of the pairs brothers.
Soon the entire family gathered all with their own well wishes and the occasional ultimatum and then retired for the evening.
Declan awoke early as was his habit before journying out beyond the cities walls. quietly navigating through the house down to the family room and began to don his armor. thick boots were quickly followed by a padded gambeson, chain-mail hauberk and armored surcoat. all donned with practiced ease. giving one final tug on his gloves, Declan left his families home once again and began his trek back to the guild, the stables and to his new teammate and partner on this jaunt, Mira. _________________________________________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________________________________
Mira swiftly swung up into her saddle while Declan spoke with the Stable Master and let her steed get used to her weight. She stroked the strong neck below her as her gaze drifted to Declan again. She could hear the tones of his conversation. He gave off an air of friendliness and warmth that put most at ease. Mira wasn't uncomfortable around him, but she wasn't at ease yet. That was going to take some time. There was definitely something more to Declan and she looked forward to learning about it. She still couldn't figure out why it had been so easy to agree to work with him. There was simply something about him that intrigued her and since that didn't happen often, she wanted to see where things went.
She looked up at the sky to see where the sun was. It was early enough that the usual foot traffic wasn't up, but people were starting to move around. With the horses, they would be able to make it a good distance toward the bandits today. The sooner they dealt with the bandits, the sooner they could get to the ruins. Excitement simmered in her gut at the thought of the ruins. It wasn't all that often that she had a chance to see pieces of the old world, other than passing by on a trip, and she was looking forward to it.
Taking out a map she had purchased not long ago, she studied it while Declan finished up. There were a number of routes they could take, but they all started off the main road. She had heard a few mentions of the bandits that they were seeking, but nothing too concrete. Mira wondered if Declan had heard any news, but decided to wait until later to ask. They could enjoy the morning for a little before getting down to business.
Mira was glad when she was able to nudge her steed forward and they were finally moving down the road. "I've worked with this horse a number of times, so I guess you say that's history." She patted her horse's neck, "This girl has saved me a couple times, believe it or not." She looked over at Declan, "How about you? Do you use horses often? Given your stature and the equipment you use, I would imagine it would be hard to find many who can handle it all."

Mira couldn't help a short chuckle when he mentioned his first mounted trip. "It sounds like it could be an entertaining story. Perhaps it can be a fireside tale one evening."
She watched the interaction with his steed and said, "You may not ride often, but it seems that you work pretty well with them. Horses are smart animals, so the fact that that one is comfortable with you on top, is a good sign." She ran her hand through her steed's mane to reassure it in the crowd that they were moving through. Even though she knew how the horse handled, it didn't hurt to help keep things settled.
"How do I want to handle things....hm..." Mira considered how she had worked in the past and how Declan's style might fit in or what adjustments she would need to make to her own style.
"First things first, I would like to locate the bandits and figure out how many we are dealing with. So, once we get going, we should share information about them to see if we need to gather more." She pulled out her own papers to make sure everything was ready to go and within reach.
"Normally, what I do is try to get close to the camp at first, taking out as many as possible quietly, before I end up having to pull out my shield and larger blade to finish thing off. When it's just me, it helps keep things manageable. Even with your skillset, it might be a good idea to at least start off quietly and get rid of a few before sending you in like a boulder. Of course, this all depends on how we find the camp set up in the first place. How do you normally approach a group of bandits?"

Mira listened to Declan's normal approach. They would probably need to discuss how they should combine or adjust the plan, but that could wait for fireside chats. There would be plenty of time. She knew one thing though, she was beginning to like Declan. Considering how long that normally took, it was surprising to her.
"So, basically, you like to play with your quarry." She chuckled softly. "Sounds like a little too much extra work for my tastes, having to hunt down the remainder of them. Leaves room for revenge missions." She had a thought strike her and she grinned, "I have an idea that I'll explain this evening. It might help us fit both styles into one. It'll depend on how the bandits are set up in the terrain, but you might like it."
Declan's chores question made her pause as she thought through everything that would be needed for camp. Mira's eyes passed over the landscape as she answered, "In the past, when I've been with other people, we would wait until we saw what kind of campsite we would be dealing with that evening and then we would decide from there. Sometimes circumstances were that we needed to both work on the same chore together to get it done in time. Otherwise, my go-to is to swap each day. When we camp at the ruins, we may need to adjust. Does that sound agreeable to you?"
