"Perhaps it has something to do with the whole idea of it being forbidden," she said simply, musingly, "After all, we are a Catholic family, even if most of us are atheists. But I think it has something to do with our blood and the curses. I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's just the fact that we're a family of very attractive people." Her shoulders moved in a vague shrug and then she was very still again, quiet, watching him with those careful eyes. "I wonder if you'll begin to feel it after you've settled into the blood bonds. What do you think?" She drew her legs up closer to her, resting her elbows on her knees and her chin in the palms of her hands, her head tilted to the side just slightly as if curious. "Will you be like the other Mayfair boys, fighting each other for favor? Will you come crawling to me like them, begging to be in my bed?"

"Sorry to say, but if you want me to beg you for the chance to spend a night of pleasure with you, you'd have to break me like you said. I'm still under the teachings of the guild. We aren't taught to chase after the pleasures of the flesh unless it part of an idenity for a mission. If you want me to open up and cease this being I am now. I need different teachings."

Many years of the guild have stuck with him. Even after he broke the highest law there to be with his real family, Felix couldn't throw away his teachings without a care. They made him who he was. But to be a Mayfair, he most likely needed to rid himself of those teachings and adopt new ones.

Felix stared at Antha for a few more seconds then turned his head slightly to divert his eyes again. Maybe this is why he didn't see himself fitting in with this family. He believed himself too different. They were born and raised to be Mayfairs. Felix was born a Mayfair but raised as an assassin. A thief. A killer. Murder. Mugger.

A lowlife.

Sleet just smiled his cold, amused smile and took another step closer. What would you do? Kill me? He laughed at that thought. It would almost be worth it if I could but see the look in her eyes while she died, knowing it was your fault, because you kill me and you kill the whole Mayfair family. The poor mortals.
He took another step forward and laughed. Tell me how it is when you do sleep with her won't you? The only time I got the chance it was against her will. She just screamed the entire time. Tried to kill me I think but she's very physically weak. He remembered her tears that day. It was the sweetest thing he had ever seen and he didn't even mind the solid months of torture she had put him through after that.

"You are a shell."
The first time he had spoken aloud during the conversation; his voice was low and very...very...calm.

"It is true that I would not kill you. For Antha's sake. But there are very many ways to make you suffer without incurring your destruction."

And he smiled; his bloodless lips curving, crooked, into an expression that could never have been mistaken as friendly.

"And this time you would not even have the satisfaction of touching her to make it worthwhile."

He opened his left hand, raised it, so that his fingertips just barely brushed against the projection's collarbone.

"Tell me, Sleet. What suicidal idiocy draws you to play these games with Antha and I?"

I play no games with you, mongrel. I play only with Antha. You are just a roadblock. He threw his head back and laughed. Who are you to tell me that I won't touch her? You can't catch me. But I can catch Antha.
One smoky hand reached out and dove into his chest. He touched his heart and wanted to crush it. Then Sleet's image was just gone. Vanished. When it showed up again it wasn't a projection and it stood outside of the gates to Satis House.
When he extended his words they were all for Antha. Come out, come out, wherever you are. You've been a terribly naughty girl my little brat princess. Come face your punishment.

"Believe me, ducky, that mentality will not last long. I give you a month at most until you break, until you're a true Mayfair." She laughed once, clearly amused with the idea, and then Sleet showed up at her gate.
Of course she had felt his vague, thin presence when he had spoken to Vikteren. She was always on the alert for him, after all. But when the real thing, whole and solid, came near and his presence swept over her like a tide, ready to drown her, it made her catch her breath, her eyes going wide with immediate panic.
There was no thought to her actions. She merely took Felix's wrist in her hand, the umbra locking around her grip to keep him from escaping, and she ran, dragging him along. She ran up the stairs, pausing very, very briefly in a swaying of fabric and crimson hair beside Vikteren to whisper hastily, "Mon dieu! He's here." Then she was off again, up the stairs to the attic, dragging Felix with her whether he wanted to come or not. She didn't worry about Vikteren---he could handle Sleet, at least enough to keep himself alive, and she didn't think he would like being dragged off to hide.
"I seemed to have left out a very large part of our legacy," she said very simply as she closed the attic door behind them, glancing over her shoulder at Felix, "Our blood comes from a vampire master by the name of Sleet. He nearly killed Suzanne Mayfair, from whom all of us are descended, but instead left traces of his blood in her body. That blood gives us our magic, and if Sleet dies, so do we." She stepped away from the door cautiously, as if she were afraid to turn too fast, and then turned to the childish red sketches on the floor. "We had a door to our secret place in here once, a long time ago. But after the accident, we closed it off. Mayfair Manor holds the only entrance now." She cast one gaze at the door across the room, which had X's and dogs and rose vines so crudely drawn all over it in the same red crayon. Behind was only an empty room, no more, as was proven when she swung the door open to the darkness. "Felix, I need you to stay in here. Sleet would not travel so far into my sanctuary merely to harm you." He would find Antha and snatch her up no matter where she was, but Felix held no interest for him. He could get away without ever facing Sleet.

"You want me to stay in there and hide?" That along shocked Felix more than anything Antha had said. Felix was a fighter. A warrior in a sense. Unless order by a superior to run, Felix refused to. He'd rather chance death in a fight than run. Felix walked to the door and grabbed it. He threw it shut and looked at Antha. "I refuse."

Antha's eyes narrowed, going cold, hard, glassy. It was a stare that, even as slight as the anger within was, promised she had ended lives for lesser offenses. "What do you think you will do, Felix? Kill him? If he does, then so do we." The door slammed open again, unbidden, nearly breaking the wood of the wall behind it and sending a faint but very cold gust of air swirling around the room. "I have been at odds with Sleet for a very long time. He is strong---too strong for you. He will take me and keep me prisoner for a few weeks like always, until I can escape. He won't kill me, but if he sets eyes on you, he will kill you. Whether you like it or not, you are out of options, my dear."
Time was running out. Sleet would catch up soon. Antha's only options were to persuade Felix to keep out of sight for just a few minutes, or to force him out of sight. She needed to conserve as much energy as she could, she would need it to escape Sleet, but if he didn't comply, the umbra were more than enough for him to handle while he was this new to the game.
In the end, she could spare another week or two in Sleet's dungeons to keep Felix alive.

Sleet didn't want to claw his way through the other vampire. Too long when he didn't care for him. Instead he grasped the wooden columns and made his way to the attic window.
He busted through it with careless grace rolling on the floor and jumping to his feet easier than a cat. "Hiding? Ah but that's not like you....." He glanced at the other witch boy. "My silly, silly princess." His tongue traced his lower lip like a hungry cat watching a mouse. "You underestimate me."
He lunged forward only a few feet. Enough to put him closer to both of them. His eyes switched between them rapidly trying to decide if he should take the time to tear up the boy or make a quick job of his mission.

The moment she saw the shadow moving outside the window, Antha grabbed Felix again, jerking him back. The shattering glass made her scream, putting her arms up over her head to protect herself. It knocked her off balance, left her falling down to the tired, rotting floorboards.
She wanted to taunt him, to get her few little shots in before she was back in chains, bleeding at his feet, but she couldn't risk it. She saw him looking at Felix, between them, plotting. But he wanted to get the boring part over with already, to begin her torture. He wouldn't give her the time to run too far, even if it meant he never got to lay a single finger on Felix.
That was why the moment she was back on her feet, she was running for the door, away from both of them, shouting a frustrated, "Damn it, Felix!" before she threw the door open and closed it again behind her. The umbra couldn't help her---they weren't powerful enough to restrain him, and anything that they could do ran the risk of killing him and that was unacceptable. So they thrummed around her, screaming their fear in her mind, while she ran down the stairs, trying not to trip.

A small hiss came from Sleet when she ran. He looked at the witch boy longingly, reaching out like he would stil start pulling organs out ofhis chest, before he went after her in a blur of speed. He threw the door open and dove down the stairs crashing into her from behind. He wrapped his body around her before they fell to the landing to keep her from dying on impact. Not enough not to keep her from getting injured just not killed.
"Deny me my fun for now, witch. You'll make up for it later." He picked her up by her arms with a grip that would turn her skin black under his touch in minutes and slammed her back against the wall, still holding tight to her.

Kain heard the window smash a few seconds later. He wasn't payin too much attition to it until now. "That can't be good." he said to himself then ran back inside with his hand on his gun looking for what must have made the sound. He could see that they had left the room in a hurry but couldn't tell to where. *Damn it.* he thought to himself then calmed himself and took a deep breath. He lisend for any sound that could give away someone positon. He then heard the last few words spoken by Sleet and kicked in the door to the landing. He held his gun clamly at Sleet but stood several feet away. "Don't move or I'll shoot." he said not knowing that his warning was in vain. He couldn't tell that anything was off just yet. He thought that he must have been some kind of robber or something.

The first impact brought a shrill scream from her as she went crashing down the stairs. Her right leg collided with the railing somewhere along the way, bringing another scream from her that was longer, more ragged. A sharp pain had formed along the bone by the time she fell to the landing, not broken but certainly sprained or perhaps fractured. But the pain was nothing compared to the feel of Sleet wrapped around her, clutching her to himself. It brought back sensory memories that had her screaming frantically, struggling uselessly against him. She had never wanted to feel the touch of him on her skin again, swearing that she would kill herself if it happened.
The dull pain of him grabbing her, leaving fingerprint bruises on her arms, and the string of bruises blooming along the entire right side of her body from the crash balanced out the sharp pain in her leg, making her quiet. She still struggled, but only slightly, as if trying to make herself more comfortable. Being thrown up against the wall only brought a low, whimpering groan from her, only made her square her shoulders and kick her legs the slightest bit, bringing the pain back in full.
Finally she knew of only one thing to do and she didn't hesitate. She screamed Vikteren's name, calling to him again and again, the pain thick in her voice. She would be stiff soon, too banged up to move without whining, and he hadn't even drawn blood yet, much less tied her up to a beam so tight that she couldn't breathe and the rope bit into her skin, leaving deep imprints in her flesh.
When Kain came up the stairs, the horror filled her eyes almost instantly. She was not in the mood to see an innocent die today. "He's a vampire, Kain," she said when she calmed down enough to stop screaming, though the undercurrent of pain still colored her voice, "And if you kill him, I die. Felix dies. My whole family dies." Not that he ever could, and she knew it. That was why she reached out and spoke silently into his mind, Run. Run now. Sleet wouldn't bother with him if he was too far out of reach.

Sleet made a loud hiss that bared his fangs to the newcomer. He ground Antha a little harder into the wall hoping for a little scream or something to taunt him. "A human. How quaint. I didn't think you ******** complete humans, Antha." He knew she did but it made him laugh a loud sound resembling a snarl.
He dropped her in a quick movement and went towards the human. She could fall and crumple on the floor where she wanted. She was in too bad of shape to run from him now. "Drop that toy, little boy. Face me like a man."

When Kain saw his fangs he suddenly couldn't move. "No not you." he said slowly. His mind hurt as he started to remember things. Kain however then took off his trench coat and dropped the gun kicking it to the wall. Then he drew his short sword. He couldn't seem to stop himself from doing what Sleet said. "I know you from somewere." he said almost as if he was dreaming. Suddenly his eyes sharpend. "I will not lose to a filthy blood sucker like you!" he said as his eyes seemed to fill with blood. His mind was torn in half as memories poured in...memories of the war and how to fight with an immortal. He knew he could do it. Only one thing was wrong, he need pure oxygen to fight him as an equal. He simply got into a ready stance.

Another scream tore from Antha's throat as she fell to the ground, collapsing onto her side. She struggled to lift herself on her arms, making small groans and muffled screams with every movement. "Kain, please!" she cried out to him, reaching out with one arm that was already going purple and black. "Even if you could beat him, you would kill us!"
Her eyes stared at him, watched him, even wider than usual with her panic. They were drowning in fear, the perfect green irises that so resembled the very gem their color was named for dark thinking of what would happen if this fight actually began. Either an innocent human would be dead on her floor or she and every member of her family would be dead in a matter of days, beginning with her.
