"You needn't worry, Gren," Stella grinned, accepting a hovering glass of wine. "I care about both of you too much to try something that risky. On the bright side, that kitten of yours will have good company."

"Fritz? Man, he'll be so thrown by this..." Azana chuckled, even though she knew this was relatively serious. How the hell did this happen to him?

"Don't think about it too much, Az. He'll be fine," Sosol reassured her, an arm around her and a mug in his free hand. "Aside from the random transformation, how was your holiday?"

Hangover passed, but still sober, Gren shifted slightly. "I suppose...it wasn't bad. Rumballs and spiked eggnog and Christmas crackers. No drama. Best holiday I could as for."

That explains a few things, Stella thought to herself, sipping at her wine. "Quite a few people had good holidays. Kristen had more gifts than she knew what to do with, Max said something about parties every day this week...oh, and Tyler apparently found out he has a nephew."

Sosol smiled at the news, particularly the last bit. "Looks like Emily's not the only one calling him uncle...speaking of which, I hope she was alright with celebrating Christmas with Grandma."

"I'm sure it was brilliant...she'll probably spoil the kid rotten." Azana chuckled. "Speaking of Kristen, where is--"

"Brother!" Kristen greeted, wearing a rather festive red sweater as she ran across the floor to hug him. "I am sorry I was unable to see you off. Welcome home!"

"I got a call...they're doing fine, having a lot of fun...she got an immense doll house." he chuckled.

"Told you. Spoiled rotten." Azana smiled broadly before heading off for the kitchen. Something warm before bed sounded good; it had been a long day of travel, even with the rest stops and taking shifts. Sure, it beat driving, but it was just as draining.

"Kristen," Sosol greeted, giving her a light squeeze. "It sounded like you had a good time regardless. You should come with us one of these visits...I'm sure they'd love to see you."

"You really think so?" Kristen asked, grinning as her necklace caught the firelight.

"Come on...you're the little sister I never had. They see themselves as godparents, and they love to have guests. You're coming." Sosol took a long drink of his mug, incredibly satisfied with the holiday. Things seemed to have gone off without a hitch...arguably better than ever before.

Maybe we're finally starting to get this whole Inn of Peace thing down...

Stella set down a half-finished glass, remembering her conversation with Tyler. It didn't seem right that he had to avoid his family, even if their past wasn't the best...but she had to come up with something convincing. Lying wasn't exactly her strong suit, no matter how she pretended...but it was the only way to help.

If he even wants it...

Gren thought for a moment. "Sosol, could I get a couple of cups of tea? White peach."

"A couple? Oh, yeah...coming right up." Sosol walked back for the kitchen, passing Azana on her way out.

"That hits the spot," she smiled, taking another long drink of her tea. "As much as I love the Jacobs bunch...nothin' beats here."

Stella smiled at her, though she kept quiet about the possibility of an estranged aunt out there. There was not guarantee; until she was sure, not a word.

Gren smiled. "Thank you." He scratched Eli's head absently. "By the way...you don't have to keep hiding upstairs on my account."

"Gren, I am aware of my status as an unwelcome guest...I figured making myself scarce would make things easier. Thank you, though...it does get a little stuffy in there after a while." She fidgeted slightly with her pen, way too much muddling her mind at the moment. Waiting for her own return letter, trying to figure out a cover story for Tyler's supposed death...so much she was trying to do, and she knew the ball would have to drop at some point.

Hopefully not as disastrously as last time...

"Two white peach teas!" Sosol called, the two gracefully hovering through the room. He called anymore to make sure everyone knew which was which...and also to keep out of the way.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 26, 2010 9:37 pm

"I figured...but, that's my way of saying I'm on the way to forgiving...and it's not fair to you over your time off." he replied, catching the tea. "Thank you, Sosol...anyway, just because I have my own issues to work through doesn't mean I have any right to be a bad Innkeeper. The guests' happiness is a higher priority, and there's a compromise to be found in anything."

(Wu-oh. Gotta dash. Hope to be back.)

"We all have our issues...I'm just starting to realize the scope of mine, one positive side-effect of my self-imposed exile," Stella said, looking down and realizing she had already drained her glass. Before she could even ask, it floated away from her. "...I can live with that...just don't let history repeat itself..." She was, of course, referring to that little hospital visit they had kept under wraps.

Azana looked between the two and shrugged. She wasn't getting in the middle of that...she already did what little she was willing to. Not like it was a mission, anyway.

"No problem," he said, walking out and cleaning up a little around the bar. God, he never thought it would feel so good to clean...

"Hey, I'm tougher than I look." he chuckled. "You know where my limits lie here...it's just...if it's something I'd rather put behind me, it's not something I want to spend time being mad about. Bad vibes."

Sipping his tea, he grinned crookedly, offering a hand. "Never again?"

(Hokay, romping for real. Sorry. D: )

"I have no doubts there," Stella smiled. As he offered his hand, though, there was surprisingly little hesitation. "You have my word, and anything else you need to be convinced of how much I mean it. It was probably--no, definitely--the worst mistake I've made. Hell will freeze before I dare repeat it."

Sosol inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe they could get past all that awkwardness now...not a good position to be in, when both your bosses get in an argument.

"Now if we could just get your boyfriends to be nice," Azana chuckled, especially as Stella glared at her. "You guys might as well be, at this rate..."

Gren chuckled, pouring the second cup of tea into the now-empty saucer to quell the growls of the ginger tabby. "Now, now...we just finished a fight; let's not start another, folks."

The following morning came at its appointed hour, explanations made to the parents, who remained more lovingly amused than concerned. Gren sat downstairs, frowning slightly. A quick phone call was bringing the 'guilty' party.

Still growling to himself, MacPere tentatively descended the stairs, unsure in his feline body and wishing to be out of it as soon as possible. "Mroooow!" He called after Gren, strolling up his leg and proceeding to rub himself against it in a strange urge.
