Zulma opened the window, letting a gulf of cold air wipe her face. She smiled. Nature. Nature remained. Nature prevailed. The rest did not matter.
After some time, she headed back to the main room where it seemed that Howard had fallen asleep.

Zulma trotted towards Gren.

"Neither did I, particularly...I knew about the half-dragon part, and kinda about the siren thing, but not that things were going poorly with Albee." he sighed, suddenly recalling the tea when the kettle whistled. "Excuse me..."
He returned in a moment with the tea tray ready. "Here...keeps the chill away."

Zulma listened thoughtfully.
"It must be really hard for him to drink like that..."
Her gaze followed Gren as he stood up and came back.
"Thank you Gren. You are a true friend."
She paused, took a deep breath and asked.
"How are things between you and MacPere?"
Her eyes were hopeful and yet a little sad.

Despite the bitter taste in the back of her mouth, she found herself smiling. She was happy for them.
"I am glad."
When he asked her about calling MacPere, she answered too quickly. "No!" She bit her lips.
"I would love to see MacPere...just...just not the two of you at the same time..." She looked down. How grotesque and selfish!
But she was not sure she could bear it. It was too soon.

Zulma seemed to shrink.
"It could have been worse. They could have died." Her voice was low.
She tried to smile but it did not stay on.
"They are alive and I know happy...except maybe for...him..." she could not even say his name.

Inwardly, he breathed a sigh of relief that they were alive and happy, as opposed to his worst fears. Sill, he hated seeing Zulma miserable. "I take it...that he can't come back." he said quietly, wincing.

Zulma guessed that she had to tell more to Gren. With an unsteady voice and long poses, she spoke up.
"We wanted to be alone, away, at peace when the time came. We found a nice place."
The shadow of a smile passed on her face.
"The twins were pups. Nothing more, nothing less."
She bit her lips.
"They weakened quickly and ... " her voice broke. "I... I could not do anything."
