As could be expected, Alex wasn't the least bit inclined to get up early that Saturday morning. His plans for the day could be summed up in two words: college football. Even though he was finished with playing high school football, Alex's doctor had the optimistic belief that Alex should be able to play again once Alex had started college, and so it was a good idea for Alex to become as familiar with college-level football as he could prior to the commencement of college. Besides, watching football was a further indication of just how much he loved the game. By the same token, Alex's plans for Sunday had 'NFL' written all over them. One of the very few positive aspects of Alex's knee injury was that he had the perfect excuse to sit and watch TV for most of the day. As Alex slowly woke up that Saturday morning, he became aware of the fact that Sofia was lying close to him. In fact, she was very close to him. A lot closer than she had ever been before. He spent a few moments in contemplation of what he was going to do about it, but ultimately decided against doing anything that would wake her up, since his close proximity was likely to spook her. Instead, he just lay next to her and admired her natural beauty as she slept.

Debra had just finished with getting dressed when she barely heard a knock on her bedroom door over the blaring of her stereo. (She was playing AC/DC at the moment.) Walking to the door, she opened it, saw that her grandmother was there, and irritably demanded, "What do you want now?" "There's a young woman here that says she knows you at school," her grandmother explained with a pleasant smile. That puzzled Debra. The only person whom she could think of who would bother to visit her was Sofia. Her grandmother had already met Sofia, and if Sofia had come, Debra's grandmother would have said so. Grumbling at the interruption, Debra went to the front door to see who had come to see her. Lo and behold, it was Cynthia of Team Bimbo, one of the last people that Debra expected to see outside of school. Debra almost didn't recognize her because she was dressed in a modest blouse and skirt instead of the usual stupid cheerleader uniform. "What do you want?" Debra demanded irritably. Cynthia looked as if she was expecting Debra to bite her any moment now, and she hesitantly replied, "Can we talk? In private?" Debra's first inclination was to refuse, but she was curious about why Cynthia had come to see her. She thought about inviting Cynthia to her bedroom, but all of the occult things and the posters with vampires and other scary things would probably freak out Cynthia to the point where she couldn't talk. Coming to a quick decision, she called out, "Grandma, I'm going outside for a while!" "That's fine. Let me know if you decide to go anywhere," her grandmother said in return.
Debra went outside, and after walking a short distance away from the house, she faced Cynthia and said, "So, talk already!" Cynthia appeared to need a moment to steel her nerves before she took a deep breath and began to speak. "I just wanted to say that what you did to those cookies was a horrible thing! I was on the toilet for hours!" Cynthia whined. "Cry me a river!" Debra snapped back unsympathetically, "That's what you get for letting Brandy manipulate you and drag you into her stupid and futile plots for revenge! Take my advice and get away from Brandy before things get really ugly." "But... Brandy's my friend!" Cynthia protested. "She's not your friend!" Debra exploded, "She's nobody's friend! She doesn't have friends! She just has... people that she uses until she's tired of them and then throws them away like... like... trash!" Cynthia opened her mouth to protest again, but apparently thought better of it and remained silent. Smirking in triumph, Debra went on to say, "You see? You already know that I'm right. Tell you what. The next time that you're on Youtube, watch the video for Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. That will spell it out for you, and you might find your place." Cynthia appeared to think about it and then nodded as she said, "OK, I will. By the way, me and that other girl really weren't kissing. We were just pretending for the photo." Debra patted her on the shoulder as she condescendingly replied, "Whatever helps you to feel better." "Really, we weren't!" Cynthia insisted. "Sure you weren't!" Debra stated in a tone that indicated that she wasn't buying it.
Seeing that it was pointless to argue the point, Cynthia changed the subject by saying, "I've been wondering about something. Why do you like Sofia? Nobody likes Sofia!" Instead of giving a direct answer to that, Debra said in return, "Maybe if you took the time to actually get to know Sofia, you wouldn't need to ask that. I will say this much. Sofia is a much better friend than Brandy and those other cheerleaders that you hang out with." It was now Cynthia's turn to look dubious, and she replied, "If you say so. Well... ah... I should go now. Thanks for talking. I guess I'll see you in school." "Yeah, I guess you will," Debra remarked, "Think about what I've said. You should really ditch Brandy before she does something to hurt you." "I'll think about it," Cynthia conceded, and then she went on her way. As soon as Debra returned to the house, she found her grandmother waiting for her, and her grandmother politely said, "She seems to be nice. What were you talking about?" "Nothing important," Debra replied, since an explanation would take far too long to make, and then Debra returned to the seclusion of her bedroom.

As it happened, Alex did look up when Sofia had walked through the room, and so he had noted her state of dress. Not that he let on that he had seen her, since that would only embarrass her again. "OK, see you then," he called after her as she went out the door with Bo. At the moment he was watching college football as he had said. Ohio State was playing at Michigan, and they were going for it on 4th and short, when wouldn't you know it? The doorbell rang. He waited long enough to see the outcome of the play (the Ohio State fullback was stopped a yard short of the first down) before he got up and made his way over to the door to see who it was. To be honest, Alex was expecting to see Debra, since she was the only person who would come to see Sofia and his friends, including Greg, rarely visited him at his apartment. Much to his disappointment, he saw that it was Helen. In other words, the very last person he wanted to see, with Brandy running a close second. For a moment he wondered if he should have pretended that he wasn't home, but Helen had probably heard the TV on. Anyway, it was too late to do any pretending. "Helen! What a... surprise!" Alex said more cheerfully than he felt, and he made no move to invite her in, which was certain to be an invitation to disaster, especially if Helen insisted on staying long enough for Sofia to return and find Helen there.

Alex couldn't help but notice the plateful of Rice Krispies Treats that Helen had brought with her. It was just like her to remember that was his favorite snack and use it against him. He would have taken the plate from her already if that didn't seem like selling out. Alex was left with the simple choice of letting her inside or finding an excuse to leave her standing at the door. Even if he did think of something, though, Helen probably wouldn't leave. Since that was the case, Alex decided that the sooner that he let her in, the sooner that she would be leaving after they have had the chance to talk. "Sure, come on in," he said as he stepped out of the way, while hoping that he wasn't making a mistake.Once she was inside, he closed the door and went back to the couch. Alex didn't turn off the TV, but he did lower the volume so that they could talk. He was willing to make that much of a concession.

At the moment Alex had the choice of making up a story to the effect that it had been his idea to get married from the beginning or telling the truth. The first option would sound better at the moment, but Alex had the feeling that Helen wouldn't believe him, and it would be only a matter of time until she found out the real story, and then she would be mad at him for lying to her, among other reasons. The second option would upset her right away, but in the long run would probably be the better option, all things considered. Regardless of the circumstances that had led to Alex's marriage with Sofia, Helen was likely to consider the arrangement to be only temporary, and she would probably do her best to see to it that Alex and Sofia will break up. After all, Helen can't have him if Sofia did. "Actually, it's kind of funny how that happened," Alex said. He then explained the exact circumstances that had led to his and Sofia's marriage, and he included the fact that both sets of parents and their psychology teacher had insisted that they should stay married. Sure it made it appear that Alex had been trapped in the marriage, like Helen had said, but it was essentially true, even if Alex no longer thought that way.

"That's horrid! There is no reason why you should stay married to her, it's your life not that of your parents or hers. You can easily get a divorce so why suffer in such a dull marriage?!" Helen shook her head and felt angered at what she heard and also felt that this was unjust. She frowned and got up, shutting the tv off and looking at him. Helen would do whatever she could to get him back and to make Sofia be the one to leave him if he didn't want to. It so happened that Sofia was making her way back now and now arrived at the door. Helen, being who she was would take this as the perfect moment to start the breaking up process. Helen was manipulative and there was no doubt that when she was together with Alex she had wanted to do the 'fun' stuff other couples did but he always refused and had some excuse. But that was a year ago, who know if he changed his mind about that specific topic.
Without any warning Helen sat herself on his lap thought gently as to not to hurt his leg. As she sat there she had her arms wrapped around his neck loosely. "You don't want a wife like her Alex, I bet she's too shy to do what married couples do anyway.." a small smile grew on her face and when the door swung open she grinned and went into kiss him, clearly making it look as if the two were wanting this.
Bo was the first to enter and the moment he saw Helen on Alex he began to bark, his fur standing up on end. He managed to pull the leash out of Sofia's hand and rushed over to them, continuing to bark at her with his teeth baring out at her.
Helen gasped and toppled off of Alex and began to scoot away with Bo sill barking at her and even rushing toward her as if she were some thief. Sofia quickly rushed over and grabbed the leash and yanked him back until she got a hold of his collar and began to pull him away into the kitchen, trying to calm him down but the fact that Helen was still there made him go wild, as if he knew that she was some evil witch. "I suggest you get out of here before he manages to get out of my hands and bites down on you," Sofia said looking at Helen and for a moment Helen could see a small smile on Sofia's face.
Not wanting to get bitten she scrambled up and hurried out though she called out, "Call me Alex!" The door slammed and she was gone, Bo still barking at the door before he finally calmed down.
Sofia rubbed his head and soothed him and then took his leash out. He then walked over to the couch and sat down next to Alex and rested his head on his lap. Sofia too had seen what had happened but she really had nothing to say and simply walked into the kitchen to get some water.
