Rebecca looked around the room. What she was looking for was her knowledge and hers alone. The woman picked up her empty tumbler and stared at it, as if she were waiting for the whiskey to magically flow back in. She knew all too well that it wouldn't, but by assuming the my-glass-is-empty-and-that-is-making-me-sad position, she increased her chances of getting either a) a drink, b) a good conversation, or c) very bored.

Rebecca smiled, but stayed out of this conversation. She was no good at comforting people and that was obviously what the other half of the conversation needed. She jumped down off of the bar and took her shot of whiskey with her. She'd consume it as slowly as possible this time instead of just downing it as she had before.
