I didn't get to wander through any art stores---but I wrote down to buy a variety of things and the pens were definitely on my "experimental tools" list heart

well thats a good list to put it on. i say you get used to coloring in/shading things in pencil first (those all b and w drawings that are entirely pencil is what i mean) first. it really helps to get your strokes smooth with pen. i did maybe three or four pencil drawings before i jumped to pen, and it helped alot.

i cant wait for that either. though it seems im only having three problems-
getting what im thinking of down on pap- er, computer screen
picking the right canvas size
and making straight lines when i ink.

I planned on using it for lienart----but is it also good for shading and such?


I used to use those cutesy gell pens for smudging (for shading)

ALSO. How big is your tablet and how big is your computer screen? You will always end up with a lower resolution if they are not the same size (proportionally)
Always aim for a high resolution (sometimes it says Dpi) and always get a HUGE a** canvas size.

You got to make up for what lacks. (in the digital world) most of the time.

good for alot of things. i did mostly lineart with them first (lineart that i colored in with chalks. as weird as that sounds the result is pretty impressive) but as you saw with the crane, pressure and thickness of the pen can give you an effect that looks like different shades.

i love gel pens. always have em on me >w<

its a bamboo and its a hell of alot smaller than my computer screen (i got one of those big screen laptops...). i always save as a high quality image and i try to use an epicly big canvas as well...but im mostly working with opencanvas here, so its kinda awkward because when you zoom out it pixelates.

i swear i breathe and hot air comes out.

Oh yeah, gradients and values with this pen will definitely be fun----especially if it's that inky.

Open Canvas has some sexy features that shouldn't hinder artage other than it's features are hard to use when begiining with it xD

i love painter. my only problem is making decent lineart with it, but that can change over time.

sorry guys, i keeled mah thumb in art class and cant draw until it stops bugging me...stupid scissors.

its funny coz its on my left hand, and im a righty.

you can always do line art in one program then paint over it in painter o .o
a little more work but it's do-able

I would use Corel Painter if I didn't already have Twisted Brush, SAI, MyPaint, Az Painter, and an old version of PD pro xD


Is corel any good? I want to look up it's specs now.

@Lakemonster- well i usually do that, do the lines in opencanvas and color in corel. that being said, corel has some funky layering. either that or im too used to OC

@Zen- i like corel, alot of its brushes look like real tools (like oilpaint and arcrylic and such). it even has a little mixer on the bottom to mix colors in like a pallet!
that being said, you have to pay for it. mine came with my tablet.

I have the program around here in CD form but it might be the earlier version.


I had another friend who used corel when I really got inspired to stop drawing like this (like two or three years ago)

She drew really nice eyes and backgrounds with Corel (so I might be thinking about it more)

two drawings now, cause i can. just to test out styles and colorings though. the first one is on OC and the second on corel.

and yes, i am waiting for Black and White to come out. no, im not an obsessed fangirl. its just...buneary and lopunny are so much fun to draw whee cant remember when ive wanted to draw a subject do badly
