"Oh, I see..!" he said, imagining a marvelous forest wonderland, this impression clear on his face. "Wow...it sounds beautiful!"

Aravilui raised a brow with a bit of a smile. "Well, mostly. Except for the spiderwebs thick as rope and the spiders large enough to eat a deer. The main river is spelled... poisonous, basically. It puts you into a magical coma, though that is fading to being little more than a very short nap now."

He smiled a bit more, his gaze growing distant. "I know this one clearing, though... a clean stream falls into this gorgeous little pond, and in the late afternoon every looks gilded. When I have some time off, I love to go there and watch the animals. The birds and deer that go there are quite friendly, unlike the stupid squirrels."

Aravilui glared slightly at nothing, "I hate the squirrels. Evil little beasts, they are."

Adam frowned. "Squirrels are cute, but they keep eating my seeds...but, wow, those are large spiders, aren't they?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 18, 2011 6:49 pm

"Intelligent, too. They are quite capable of speech, and look on anything that moves as food. They are actually quite fond of people... to eat, I mean.

"As for the squirrels... Those in my home are black and not at all like the cute little creatures I have seen here. They are much larger, and far more vicious. The Shadow lay on my home for far too long..." he said sadly. "Even nearly two hundred years later we are still fighting the results of it."

"The Shadow?" he asked, the picture of innocence, a man who'd known neither war nor despair.

Aravilui looked at him for a moment, then shook his head. "Never mind, it is not important. A term for terrible sorrow long past, that I myself do not remember. I know personally only the remnants that were left behind. I merely know so much of the past because my father is..."

He paused and narrowed his eyes, "What was the term I heard once... Ah yes. 'Older than dirt'. Except my father takes that to the point of being almost ridiculously literal."

"Oh..." he said, looking slightly away, having a hunch that he was rather ignorant of something important again. "Not all dirt, surely..."

Aravilui laughed, deciding to explain further. "Certainly not, but quite a bit of it. You see, my people are immortal. We can be slain, but age is not something that means much to us, save perhaps when it comes to the lack of it. My father is... well, in a race that lives forever, he is among the very oldest. We Elves were of course, created in the beginning, and my father was one of those first who woke, rather than being born in the conventional way. So he was around from the beginning of known history."

He smiled, "So, as earth goes through a cycle much as does water, he is in a way older than most dirt in my world, as the dirt that existed in his youth is now rock, or has become rock, then been broken down into dirt and sand again."

Adam smiled a little, nodding. "So he's older than old dirt, new dirt, old rocks, new rocks, and old new rocks and dirt?"

"Basically!" Aravilui chirped brightly. "I think he might even have a few mountains beat."

Adam chuckled. "That's amazing! Elves are sure lucky!"

Aravilui smiled slightly, "Do you have any idea how many Elves are jealous of Men's ability to truly die? Even when we are killed we do not leave the world... we are bound to it until the world ends. You... Who knows what you go to! We get to be incredibly bored."

Remy nodded. "I'm not lookin' forward to eternal life, but heck, I'll make good use of it..."

Adam shrugged. "I don't want to live forever, so it's no use asking me..."

Aravilui shrugged, "I plan on using my life well, yes. And it is pointless to want what one cannot have. Immortality, and mortality... both can be blessings. Both were meant as blessings, as least as we have been told by those who would know."

He tilted his head slightly. "Which I have heard only like... fourth-hand. I live... lived, a very sheltered life."

Adam grinned a little. "Me too..."
