Alex had both feet in the bathroom when he noticed that Sofia was standing there in all her natural beauty. It seemed that he stood there staring at her for a long time, but it was probably only a couple of seconds. "Ah... sorry! I... ah... thought that... ah... sorry!" Alex stammered before beating a hasty retreat. Once he had gotten the bathroom door closed again, he leaned against the wall in the hall and hit his forehead with the heel of his hand as he mumbled, "Stupid, stupid, stupid!" Just like that, he had probably ruined all of the trust that he had been building up, and all because he hadn't bothered to knock first. Now he would have the image of Sofia in the buff stuck in his thoughts for a long time to come. Not that the picture was necessarily bad, since she was his wife, but Sofia wouldn't look at it that way, and the image would only remind him that they still weren't doing everything that a married couple would do.

User ImageEven after he left Sofia stood there completely shocked and embarrassed but even so she didn't feel any form of anger or distrust toward him. Things like this happened...right? Nonetheless she had no clothes or towel in the bathroom so she walked to the door and cracked it open, staying hidden behind it. She hoped Alex was still there. She spoke softly, "A...Alex...can you hand me...my towel?" Her hand was sticking out, waiting for him to do so.

"Sure! No problem!" Alex quickly replied, and he went to fetch the towel. He was in such a rush that he almost tripped and fell, but his crutches helped him to keep his balance. When he returned with the towel, he placed it in her hand, and without even trying to peek into the bathroom he said, "There you go! Sorry about that. I should have knocked."

User ImageSofia took the towel and shut the door for a moment to wrap it around her body before hesitantly opening it again and stepping out and of course her glasses were in the room so everything was pretty blurry but anything close enough was clear. She glanced at him for a moment, her blush still lingering on her fact. "It's okay....I should have l...locked the d..door.." and not wanting to stand there awkwardly with such an awkward atmosphere she turned and walked into the bedroom where she shut the door and then walked into the closet where she shut the door as well and began to change into her pj's so she could head off to bed. Now they had both seen each other naked. Great.

Alex was relieved when Sofia didn't get upset, which helped him to remember the incident in a positive light. As could be expected, he was thinking the same thing as she was, except that he considered it to be a good thing. When Alex compared the previous incident to that night, he was quick to say that while a wet t-shirt was good, no t-shirt was even better. Not that he was going to say it out loud. There had to be a way, though, that he could compliment her natural beauty without embarrassing or offending her. It was a puzzle to work on. Alex decided that he had disturbed Sofia enough for one night, and so he chose to shower without her assistance. It was a somewhat long and awkward process, but he managed to get into the shower on his own. The bathroom door was still unlocked, but that was deliberate because Sofia would need it to be unlocked if he got into trouble.

User ImageAfter getting dressed she was no in bed, curled up under the blanket still very embarrassed about what had happened. Married couples by now would be used to such a thing but considering they've only kissed...well clearly it would be a while before anything happened between the two...maybe...perhaps...possibly, depending of Alex played his cards right. She was far from tired so she laid there wide awake with Bo laying on the foot of their bed as he usually did and he was already asleep.

By the time that Alex had finished with his shower, he had decided that since his apology had been made and accepted, it probably would be best if he acted as if that night's incident hadn't happened and that everything was the same as before. In a practical sense, nothing had changed, although he did have a very pleasant image of Sofia to enjoy in the privacy of his own thoughts. Perhaps someday she won't be so bashful about things, but until then, he would respect the boundaries that she had set up by keeping his wilder thoughts and ideas to himself. After he had finished dressing, he went to the bedroom and got into bed. He was thinking that he would sleep in the next morning because the first set NFL games wouldn't begin until 10 o'clock. In keeping with his 'everything is normal' attitude, Alex leaned over to Sofia, gave her an affectionate kiss on the cheek, and said, "Good night! Sleep well." He then settled into his side of the bed.

User ImageSofia had dozed off for a moment though she did feel him kiss her cheek before saying goodnight and she simply muttered a goodnight as well with a light blush forming on her face of course she was too sleepy to really even be as bashful as she normally was. Soon she fell into a deep sleep, unaware about what Alex's parents were planning on doing tomorrow.

((OOC: Unleash the parents! emotion_awesome ))

Morning had arrived, and it was no coincidence that Alex's parents had arrived at Sofia and Alex's apartment as well. Just before they reached the door, Alex's father grumbled, "Don't you think that it's too early in the morning for us to drop in on them? They're probably still asleep." "No, it's not too early!" his wife insisted, "And now is the perfect time for us to drop in on them. Alex probably has something special planned for the whole day." By now Alex's mother had his father so well-conditioned in regards to remembering important (i.e. her) birthdays that she was assuming that Alex was going to follow his father's example. Besides, it usually took a couple years before a relatively new husband began to forget birthdays and anniversaries. She then went on to say, "If we were to come later, either we'll be interrupting their celebration or they won't be home. That's why we are here this early in the morning. We're staying just long enough to wish Sofia a happy birthday and give her the card and gift, and then we'll let the two love birds go on with their plans for the day." "Alright, that works for me," Alex's father conceded. He still thought that they were too early, but he knew that he wasn't going to win if he kept on arguing. "You did remember to bring the card and gift, right?" Alex's mother prodded. "Yes, I remembered!" Alex's father answered for the umpteenth time while holding up the envelope with Sofia's name written on the front. The birthday card was in the envelope, and the gift was inside the card. Once they reached the door, Alex's father rang the doorbell, and they waited patiently for Sofia or Alex to answer the door.

User ImageIt truly was early but it was around this time that Sofia normally woke up. Maybe it was because she knew what day it was that she didn't want to get up but either way the doorbell rang and there was no need to have Alex get up, get his crutches and take his time to get to the door. Letting out a light sight she went and changed into sweat pants and a tank top and of course she was sure to put on a bra. Once she was clothed more appropriately she went out and to the front door, Bo already there waiting since he always liked meeting new people or greeting those he already knew. She opened the door and was surprised to see his parents there and she certainly wondered why they were there.

"Happy birthday!" Alex's mother declared loudly enough that the neighbors might have heard as she proceeded to glomp Sophia. "Happy birthday," Alex's father repeated with considerably more restraint. After the glomp, Alex's mother went on to say, "We just stopped by to wish you well and to give you this!" She then held out her hand to her husband so that he could give her the envelope, and then she presented it to Sofia with a flourish. The birthday card was one of those somewhat overly sentimental 'from us to our daughter-in-law' cards. Alex's mother had put some thought into the gift but since she didn't know Sofia that well, she decided to get a gift card for something that interested Sofia, which would allow Sofia to choose exactly what she wanted for a gift. The servant that Alex's mother had spoken to while at the home of Sofia's parents had said that Sofia was a budding artist, and so she had purchased a $50 gift card from the largest art supply store in town. That gift card was now safely tucked inside the birthday card. "The gift isn't much, but we hope you like it!" Alex's mother gushed. She had said that because she was certain that the kind of gift that Sofia's parents could get for Sofia was far more expensive than what she and her husband could afford. The $50 was stretching their budget just a little, but they thought that it was worth it. For Alex's parents, the important thing was for Sofia to feel like she was a part of the family.

Alex had been woken up by the doorbell, but hadn't moved because he knew that Sofia would answer the door. It was kind of early for visitors, and Alex really didn't feel like getting up yet. Most likely Debra had shown up earlier than she had the previous day. Before Alex had the chance to go back to sleep, though, he was surprised to hear his mother's voice, and even more surprised when he realized that his mother had just said 'Happy birthday!' to Sofia. Immediately coming awake, Alex sat up and mumbled, "S**t! Did I forget that it was Sofia's birthday today?" After further reflection, he realized that he couldn't have forgotten that it was her birthday because he didn't even know that it was her birthday. Anyway, he suddenly had the feeling that he was in trouble. Alex worked his way out of bed as quicky as he could, put on a robe, and made his way out to the living room. His first impulse was to ask Sofia if it was her birthday, but he didn't want to admit his ignorance in front of his parents. "Hi Mom! Hi Dad!" he said cheerfully as he came up beside Sofia.

User ImageThe moment the world 'happy' uttered out of the woman's mouth Sofia could feel her heart drop to her stomach. She was surprised and stood there unsure if she was hearing all of this correctly. It was rude not to take the envelope being held out for her but she did hesitantly take it, her hand slightly shaking because even she couldn't deny how upset she was. Of course she make sure to keep that hidden as she simply stared down at the gift they gave her. Everything had slightly faded as she barely realized that Alex was there as she pulled out the card and saw what was in it. She had never in her life gotten anything like this. If she ever did receive a card from her parents it was just a plain card with the worlds already printed there and their names signed as if it was just some paper handed to them for them to sign, there was never any thought behind what they gave her and the expensive things they did get for her birthday were again, just to buy her off. In time she had started to really loath this day because it was just a reminder of how she grew up to never fully understand what love was and how to cherish a person, essential things a person should have learned from their parents.

Finally she spoke, "Thank you...but will you excuse me." She turned and didn't bother to look at them because if she did they would see that she was not happy what so ever and she didn't want them to think it was because of the gift they gave her. Sofia simply made her way to the attic, a quick indication that she was upset. Alex knew that the only reason she went up there was to practice or to be isolated while being upset.

Alex's mother gave Sofia an indulgent smile and replied, "Of course!" After Sofia had left, Alex's mother hesitantly asked him, "Is she OK?" "Sure! She's just fine!" Alex quickly assured her. He had gotten a good look at the gift card that his parents had given to Sofia, and so he added, "She just couldn't wait to start a list of things that she wants to buy at the art supply store." His mother was relieved to hear that, and she said, "We're so glad that she liked the gift card that much. Well, we don't want to interrupt what you two have planned, and so we'll be on our way." Alex's mother started to leave, but his father paused and said to her, "You go on ahead. There's something that I need to ask Alex. Guy talk, you know." Alex's mother accepted that with a touch of reluctance as she said, "Alright, but don't be too long." After she had left. Alex's father quietly asked, "Did you know that it was Sofia's birthday today?" "Didn't have a clue," Alex replied truthfully, "She never mentioned it. Am I in trouble?" His father considered that for a moment, and then shook his head as he said in return, "If she never mentioned it and she hasn't made a fuss by now, then no, you aren't in trouble. Now that you do know, you can act accordingly. Good luck with that, and both of you have a good day," Alex's father then left the apartment. After waiting an appropriate amount of time, Alex went to the ladder that led to the attic and called up, "Sofia, you can come back down! They're gone!" Alex knew that she was upset, but he didn't know why she was upset, except that she hadn't been upset until his parents had arrived. Alex certainly wasn't going to find out about what was going on if Sofia stayed up in the attic, hence his suggestion to come back down so that they could talk about what had just happened.

User ImageSofia sat by the window and looked down to see his parents getting into the car and leaving. She then looked back at the card and read what his mother had written and looked at the gift certificate. The part that probably hurt the most was how his mother mentioned in the card that they "knew it wasn't much" and that her parents were probably getting her something much more. Really they never truly got her a gift, it wasn't like they took time off from work or themselves to just go to a store and pick out what Sofia might like and hope that she would like it. All and all they didn't care. She put the card down and wiped the few tears that dared crawl down her face. When Alex called out to her she didn't want to head down. Right now she felt envious that he had such loving parents. So, Sofia simply sat there staring at the ground trying to forget about today.

Alex waited for Sofia to come down, but she didn't. If it wasn't for his injured leg, he would have gone up to see what she was doing. He had made up the thing about Sofia making a list of things to buy, and he thought that it had been a pretty good excuse in absence of the real reason for why Sofia had left. As it was, he couldn't do anything except wait for Sofia to come down on her own. It was still way to early for football, and he wasn't tired anymore, and so Alex was at a loss for what he should do now. After a moment of thought, he remembered how his father had served his mother breakfast in bed on occasion. Sofia wasn't in bed, but that didn't mean that Alex couldn't fix breakfast for the two of them. While it was difficult to get around, he wasn't deterred by that. Besides, how hard could it be to fix scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast?
