Violet looked at him again, remembering the discussion about his brain before. "I'm glad you see the positive in it..." She said, not wanting to pry into the end of that statement. If he wanted to talk about it, he would.

The Grombie laughed at Violet's statement. She had misunderstood him. His Undead-hood was not a silver-lining, it was his whole being. He was superior, even among other undead, and humans such has here fell into two categories: food and entertainment. However, it was best not to shatter the girl's world-view. As recent events had sorrowfully proven....their was humanity in Kai yet. "Well, I have seen many things...many more than most in this world. I cannot complain about my experience except that they have happened entirely too long ago." Kai looked around at the inn and then spoke on a different topic. "Tell me, what exactly do they do around here for fun and excitement? My last hangout was a tad bit more, how shall I say, rowdier than this bunch."

"Well, it's a little empty in here right now, isn't it...?" Violet said, looking around at the sparsely populated main room. "There are a lot of people here who sing...some who draw, others who play games...I know a few that spar out in other places..."

"Well that all sounds like fun. How unfortunate that I came on such an uneventful night." Kai said with a sigh. "Im a bit of a poet myself, but I am unsure how well I can sing. I'll have to leave it to someone else to put music to any lyrics I write. You'd never be able to tell that by the sound of my voice though." The Grombie croaked, laughing a little at his own joke.

"Poetry...?" Came another young woman's voice...a blond whose tips shifted to orange. She had just arrived, dressed unseasonably warm in just a light jacket and gloves.
Violet nodded, grinning at the joke. "I'm sure someone would be willing to sing them...but what about music...?"

"Why, yes?" Kai responded to the cry of poetry. "Poetry and music, though I was just saying that I am far more versed in poetry than I am strung for music." Kai announced to the new arrival. It seemed that few people here had any concept of private conversations or any reservations about dropping eaves. Oh, well...things were hardly structured and well-mannered at Rosso's, why should it be any different herE? "I take it, then that you are as much the poet here as she is the artist?" Kai asked, gesturing to Violet.

"Not at all, and forgive any intrusion," the blond nodded. "I just knew a poet once...in fact, a man who, without aid, would speak nothing but rhyme. The word caught my interest...that is all."
"Not going to introduce yourself...?" Sosol asked, serving her a glass of ginger ale and refilling Tyler's cola.

"well, I'm not quite as bad as that, but I would be amiss if I did not say I could turn a phrase or tw on demand." Kai said. "So, now I guess you can say you've known two poets."

"That would be true," she answered, taking a sip of her ginger ale. "Since it has been requested, I am Kristen. I call Sosol my brother, though we are not blood relatives."
Violet grinned, flipping a page to the same young woman with flames dancing around her. "She comes here often..."

"Well, that she does." Kai said nodding to the picture. "I am Kai Karasurei. I found this place in the carnage of the last few days and figured I check it out when I was less...occupied. I am starting to be glad I did."

"I am certain the Innkeepers would be delighted to hear that," Kristen smiled, finding it interesting that Violet would take to talking to a Grombie. That was what they were still calling them, she hoped. "We try to be a calm and peaceful place...though there are times where we are called to fight, such as the Masquerade."
Violet nodded. "They're...very protective here...like family."

"I'm sort of the other way. My continued survival necessitates violence and I relish in the conflict. However, I can be peaceful, if the need arises." Kai explained. How different this world was from his; it was almost ironic. "And I would be careful with that word, girl. There are many families in which a person is far from protected. Take the Von Helsons....nasty family that is."

"Believe me, it says nothing to our preferences...but it's nice to have somewhere to relax," Tyler chimed in.
The counter-example hit Violet a little...after all, her family had been as loving as it could be. However, she had seen malevolence in others, too... "I tend to find...the adopted families are far more loving."
Kristen gave an impressed smirk. That was definitely true in her experience...with one very glaring exception. If she ever saw that woman again, it would be too soon.

Kai put down his empty glass, finished of all its cranberry juice. He pushed back his chair and said. "Well, at least you have found a family that is, adopted or not." Kai said. "You'll have to introduce me to all of them next time I am around. As it is, I have some business to take care of." Kai flashed a smile at the trio. "Till next time....what did you say your name was?" Kai asked, knowing full well she had not said her name. Whatever the answer, Kai would bid Kristen, Violet and Sol a farewell and leave.

"O-oh! Violet...Violet Andrews," she answered, waving as he left.

The next morning, the cleaning bot known as Jim whirred around the floor, playing a simple chiptune melody as he swept up from the night before.
