"Oh, no," Chris said. "You guys misunderstood. I'm not worried about Malachai. He seems like a pleasant chap. I'm worried about whomever Hell will send to bring him back. Can't be too careful. But don't worry. I have an escape plan."
As if on cue, the front door flew open and a squad of hamsters wearing camouflage marched in. There seemed to be a couple dozen of them.
"Ah, here they are. Plan Z! Trained attack hamsters."

Orrin frowned at the idea. "He should be allowed to explore and expand his world."

"They were one of my earliest experiments in genetic engineering when I was 7. I had planned on using them against the schoolyard bullies, but they never really graduated basic training, except Rico. I have discovered that they make an excellent diversionary tactic, however."

"Does it help to say that they'll send me a warning first?" said Mal, finishing his cocoa. "I'll know if they're coming...but, I swear I'm not after any souls. I had lots to eat, and now, well..." He pulled back part of his sleeve, revealing an interesting mark in a band around his wrist. It wad a magic seal.
"You've done genetic testing..?"

Sosol looked at the seal and nodded to his statement about a warning. "Forgive our caution, Malachai...we've had bad experiences with demons before, and we have a lot of people we claim responsibility for." He took the mug, heading back to give him a refill.
Adam beat Tyler to his question, and he simply shook his head. He really didn't want to mess around with biological processes like that...
"Hm...it's an interesting mark. Very pretty, too...you could probably pass it off for a tattoo." Orrin smiled.

"Oh yeah! It's a super-nice mark! Shame that it's a binding seal; I got yoked by it after my last encounter...aside from a glamour, maybe some charm...I can't do any magic." he said, sad. "I hope they come back and take it off. Or maybe it's to make me come back? And then, oh, my poor horns!"
Gren had heard enough. He stood up and strode over, taking a good long look at the demon. Malachai blinked, mind a rather vacant place. Gren sighed. "...You can sleep outside."
"Please tell me, though...how did they live so long?" asked Adam imploringly. Clearly, by his tone, one could tell that he held something personal on the answer.

Orrin shrugged...it was about what he expected out of Gren and the others. He couldn't really do anything for the demon, given the karmic debt shackled to his nature as an incubus, but maybe he could ask the others.
"Better than nothing," Sosol said, setting down another cocoa for Malachai. "Maybe I can find you a tent or something...oh, the old forge! You can probably set yourself up in there. The earth elemental hasn't been here in months!"
Tyler chuckled at the statement, choosing to be social and join the group. "Sounds like a wild night," he laughed to Malachai.

"One of the effects of the engineering is that they have the same lifespan of a standard human. I'd say they're physically in their early twenties. I never really understood how it worked out that way, it just happened."

"Because there are people in here that don't like demons, and others that would just plain kill you."
His tail drooped. "Oh."
"You're getting a pillow and blanket, at least. We'll see how things sort from there."
"Y-yessir." he said, looking defeated, though perking at Tyler's comment. "Oh, yes! Lots!"
Adam looked ashen, staring at Chris. "I need to see your notes."
Charlotte snatched up Fee, who was stalking. "He's not your food, no matter how much you think he is."

"I may not have much left from back then. It was about twenty years ago. You're welcome to go through my files, though, and see what you can find," Chris replied. He looked thoughtful for a moment, the added "Are you okay, Adam. You look a little rattled. Why so interested in my research?"

Tyler took a seat at the bar near Malachai, giving him a light clap on the shoulder. "Don't get too down...a few months ago, they probably wouldn't have let you stay at all. Besides, I think Sol mentioned something about a forge we could repurpose...?" A bottle landed in front of him, and he gave a nod to the psychic bartender.
"I'll do you a favor and tell you who to avoid for now. One's a woman about this tall, with short and kinda spiky brown hair...avoid her for your own sake. The other's a timid young woman, long brown hair, always carrying art supplies; she'll freak out if she even sees you."
Sosol left the bar to fetch the pillow and blanket, though he wondered if he could find a sleeping bag and lantern as well. Just because he wasn't trusted didn't mean he couldn't have fitting arrangements.

"You didn't know?" blinked Adam. "I'm the result of a project combining the human genome and animal basal cells; I'm a genetic experiment. If your process for creating these hamsters was anything similar to how I was made, then I thought, maybe I could find out how long of a lifespan I have, o-or what went wrong with the others."
Malachai looked at the hand on his shoulder, then Tyler. "Is it a nice forge?"

"I had no idea, Adam. I'd be happy to help however I can but, aside from my experiments with Rico and the boys, I'm afraid I'm not much of a biologist."
Rico had departed the room. He had heard of these so-called 'chibis' and was curious to see what they were like. Were they hostile? And if so, what sort of a challenge would they be in a fight?
