Tyler stopped, looking at Malachai's saddened expression. "Not used to it, are you..." He said, pulling out a stool and taking a seat. After a moment to gather his thoughts, he finally explained himself.

"Because you don't deserve to pay for another's actions."

"He would be that strong," Sosol frowned. "He doesn't seem the type, though he did take a casual stroll out of Hell."

His tail swayed slightly, and he looked curious. "Well, humans don't trust my breed, that I know...that's why we have the charming ability, you know. But you have no reason to be kind to me, and nobody else much is...isn't my being a demon punishable enough for your kind?"

"He'd have to be...he is an incubus, after all. They're very strong...I think right now, he's just in charming mode or something, as opposed to punishment."

"According to most, yes," Tyler answered him plainly, leaning back against the desk. "I suppose my categories of 'good' and 'evil' are a little more flexible than most. I can kill twelve and be a monster, and yet kill over a hundred and be a hero."

"Yeah...definitely not someone to get into a brawl with," Azana nodded, flinching slightly with the pressure in the back of her mind. "Excuse me...I think I should lie down for a bit..."

"But that's common with humans...think of that odd little Napoleon fellow." he nodded. "But shouldn't you be more concerned that I eat souls?"

Gren nodded. "That might be good...I imagine Baraquiel isn't happy."

"Not one bit," Azana answered, taking it slow to the stairs. "Goodnight..."

Sosol watched after her, concerned. "I guess this is the other side of a bond like that..."

Tyler shrugged. "Food's food," he answered. "Vampires drink blood, zombies eat brains, sirens eat essence, and you eat souls. As long as you make no moves at mine, I don't see a reason to freak out." He shivered, just now realizing that it was chilly in the forge without a fire going.

"Mind if I start that thing up...?" He asked. "I'm surprised you're not cold yourself."

He put a hand on Tyler's arm, incredibly warm to the touch. "Beings of the Inferno don't have problems like that." he smiled. "But go on ahead...I'd light one myself, if not for the bond."

Gren nodded. "Want to go after her?"

Charlotte rubbed her forehead. "What a difficult evening..."

"Sorry..."

"I've been doing that for years," Sosol chuckled for a moment, heading upstairs after her. Hopefully they could calm whatever was going on...

I wish she would've given me details about this thing...

"I wouldn't say difficult, dear Charlotte...things are changing. Isn't that your desire?" He was now doing cat's cradle idly, enjoying the patterns he could make.

Tyler blinked in surprise. "You're burning up...!" He said, momentarily unaware of his pun as he went to start the fire. Looks like I may be here for a bit...

"Let me know if you get too hot, if that's even possible," he said, gathering some kindling and looking around for the bellows.

"I do large scale things, my dear: daily inconveniences are exactly that. The change I deal in isn't so simple...it'd be like people asking you about the moral ambiguities of finding a lost dollar in the street and giving it to the police instead of the hobo nearby. Not even a blip on the radar, just happenstance."

Gren patted Adam's shoulder comfortingly, waving after Sosol. "Don't worry, Adam...it's better to have him than not."

"I'm sorry he's a bother..."

"It's all right. We needed some adventure, didn't we?"
he grinned, which seemed to brighten Adam's mood some.

Mal chuckled. "Normal flames won't burn me, no...and I doubt I can overheat." He flicked his thumb, a small flame lighting at the tip, and he grinned. "Hey! I can still do this!" he said, lighting the fire.

"A fair point...myself, I'm intrigued by the new," Orrin said, taking a moment to move a string with his teeth. "He seems to fill a void here that has been left..."

Azana lay in bed, back of her hand resting on her forehead as a rather heated conversation took place in her head. Literally so, as she looked a little flushed.

"You never do anything halfway, do you, Az?" Sosol asked, closing the door behind him and heading to soak a washcloth. "Bonding with an angel can be just as dangerous as a demon, it seems..."

"That's a neat trick," Tyler smirked, pulling his stool closer to the budding fire. "Where were we...? Ah, you were questioning my motives in being kind to you and why I wasn't concerned that you eat souls. I simply have deduced you won't have mine, as far as the latter."

He leaned in slightly, the new fire casting new shadows around the forge. "That's because I've decided to get you a steady supply of soulfruit."

"Well, we were looking for things to do, problems to solve..." said Charlotte, taking the loops and presenting a new cradle with a grin. "I like that about people here...always looking for something to do."

The demon raised an eyebrow, quizzical. "I'm listening."

(And I'm going to bed. Good night!)

"Aside from that...the Inn has always had its share of residents that made others uncomfortable. The ability for the place to function with such diversity and interpersonal tension is one of its greatest strengths," Orrin smiled, playing a few loops of his own and holding the design to her. "Many of such people have since left...there was the risk of great imbalance here..."

"Let's face it, Mal...you want to stay, and they're not going to have it if they think their souls are on the line. As long as you have soulfruit, you won't be hungry for them, and they'll have little reason to fear." Tyler cleaned his glasses of some soot, replacing them. "I see it as no different from keeping blood around for the vampires...the thing is, I'm going to need a little of your help to secure it. This is how we're going to pull this off..."

"....ngh..." Azana groaned, opening her eyes wearily. "That...was not fun..."

"Are you okay...? How did it go...?" Sosol asked, glass of water handy.

"Well, the RNG stipulation pretty much sealed it. She will tolerate his presence here, but she refuses to help him in any form," Azana answered between gulps. "Meaning that I can't defend him if anything happens..."

"That's...fair," her husband nodded, taking back the empty glass and filling it. "If nothing else, angels do live up to rules pretty well."

"Too well, sometimes," she answered, polishing off the second glass just as quickly and lying back down. "Turn out the light, will you?"

((Goodnight!))

"Funny, then, that the exact same thing caught our attentions and brought us here?" she hummed, grinning, plucking up threads and displaying a star.

In time, morning came, and Malachai set down his finished book, mind abuzz with questions and excited about the plan Tyler had laid out. Straightening his tie, he put back on his shoes and strolled outside, stretching his wings wide before casting his glamour and walking inside, in search of breakfast.

In the main room sat a well-dressed man with white hair, red tips across his forehead and eyes. From his barstool, he seemed to be waiting for something.
