Max growled low, and Gareus gave him a light rap on the top of his head.
"They're not after your women, Maxie, we'll have none of that language."
Gareus took note of the high voice and the small being, blinking.
"Umm... Not food."

Before Max could stand his ground, Gareus lifted him from it, the large canine filling his arms.
"No you don't, you know what happened the last time you got in a fight.'
Max gave a strange warbling from deep in his chest, looking behind Gareus.
"You did nothing of the sort. You lost and you know it, so are you going to get back to your... hat trick... or not?"
He turned to the chibi once more.
"Because he tastes like stringy, stringy beans. Far too stringy."

Max grumbled at the raptor chibi, and Gareus chuckled.
"Now that's enough of that, Maxie. Neither you nor the scaly small thing there will be cooked today, so go on!"
With a heave, the golden retriever was in the air. Whilst there, Gareus took hold of his hat and swept it over the dog from head to tail, the dog entering as its body warped and squeezed into the brown cap. Once in, he donned it once more, blinking and brushing himself off casually.
"Excellent question, Adam. Excellent. And very close, Tyler. Door, not a pocket."

"Oh, I think I understand," Tyler nodded, pulling out a memo pad to draw some visual aids. "Orrin and Charlotte have a true pocket dimension...the thing goes with them wherever they go thanks to the coat or the purse. What Gareus has is a portal in his hat...he has access to wherever it goes, but can also visit there physically."
He glanced to the messenger. "Is that what you mean by a door?"

"Pretty much," Tyler nodded, "and nothing beats a good shortcut. It's a good workaround as far as storage space or transit...a poor man's pocket dimension, in a way. I could imagine it being entirely broken with Taylor's quantum expander..."
