"...yeah, you'd be right about that," James nodded. "Him napping in that little shop of his. It's cute, in a weird way...he's probably old enough to be my grandpa."
"Sure," Azana shrugged. "I've heard of some odd flavors that turned out great..."
Tyler typed in the commands, wondering exactly what Ethiopian beef ice cream would look like...

"Huh...Well, okay!" he smiled, perking up. "I'll ask her when I see her!"
Charlotte snorted before falling into a fit of giggles. "Pfffft- ah ha ha ha ha haaaa! Ha ha ha! Haaaaaaa!"
Gren looked over, curious at the mad fit. "...Do I want to know?"
It was a beautiful shade of umber, and smelled strangely appetizing.

"Come now, James...I'm not that wrinkly," Orrin said drowsily, yawning as he walked into the main room. "Do I smell...Ethiopian...and ice cream?"
"Good nose," Tyler muttered in greeting, holding up his bowl as indication. He walked over to Gren and Azana and set it down on the table, one spoonful obviously missing. "Dig in."
Between the two reactions, James felt a little confused. He knew Orrin was old, but if Charlotte was laughing...did that mean...
Oh, man...! He's not old, he's ANCIENT.
Azana took a spoonful, letting it rest on her tongue for a moment. "Hm...weird, but it works somehow...!"

Charlotte wiped away a tear, catching her breath. "Come on...I guess that's a compliment, eh? Hullo, dear!"
Gren waved. "It's the smell of discovery." he grinned, trying a spoonful. "..!" He swallowed. "Wow. Discovery's unique."
Malachai's tail lowered slightly in respect. "Mr. Orrin..." he nodded meekly.

"I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing that word out of you," Orrin grinned, greeting her with a peck on the forehead. He looked over to Malachai next, walking over and giving him a light hug, careful not to constrict anything. "Just Orrin is fine. I'm not as stodgy as my reputation would lead you to believe."
"Um...you look really good for your age," James said sheepishly, feeling the fool for not knowing Orrin was a lot older than he let on.
"Tell me about it," Tyler said, taking another spoon of his own bowl. "The spices are nice...but the dish is just too savory to be made into a good ice cream."

She giggled, blushing. 'It's so good to say it aloud! And don't feel too bad, James, it's not something you can tell that easily."
Malachai blinked. Hugs were still fairly new, especially from higher beings. His wings flicked as he peeked up, hesitantly hugging back. "..?!"
"Awww, that's adorable. Go on, hug him! He won't bite!"
He gave it a bit more effort. "You have a reputation?"
"For what it is, it's really something." Gren admitted. "But it's not bad, really. There's lots worse ice creams out there."

"You don't get this old without people talking about you," Orrin chuckled, enjoying the warmth momentarily before letting go. "Balance keepers can be quite conservative and stuffy at times...though, honestly, I don't know what people talk about aside from my slight narcolepsy."
"I can imagine," Tyler said between spoonfuls. "Probably not asking for it again, but I'm not just going to sit here and watch it melt."

Malachai tilted his head, curious. "What's a balance keeper?"
"...So you have no idea what he does, but you're still..?"
He nodded. "All I know is that he's old and powerful, like you. That's all I need for knowing where I stand, isn't it?"
"You demons sure have this pecking order thing down." she frowned slightly. "But what if there weren't one? How would you treat people then?"
He blinked, face falling. "...I...I don't know." he pouted.
"Charlotte, give him a break."
"Kay!" She trotted over and hugged Orrin merrily.
Gren sipped the remaining soup of his own. "There's nothing saying you have to eat it, you know."

Orrin frowned slightly, cheering up somewhat when Charlotte backed off and chose rather to hug him. Malachai's heart seemed trapped in hierarchy. I'll probably be hearing Mr. Orrin for a long time...
"It's not bad, and it's somewhat against my principle to chuck it," Tyler answered plainly. "I've spent far too long scavenging, I guess."
"Dunno why you still do," James chimed in. "I mean, between the Labs and that one scary chick, you've probably got all you need."

He lashed his tail a moment, thinking. "I guess I'd judge people on how tasty they are." he concluded. "That's never led me wrong."
Charlotte petted Orrin's arm affectionately. "You've been cooped up lately...I missed you!"

"Glad you get it," Tyler smirked, polishing off the scoop of ice cream.
"So, good people would taste better...?" Azana shrugged to Malachai's solution. "Or do you tend to prefer people who you like?"

He thought a moment. "Well, there's the thing...I grew up on largely the souls of lusty people, so that's like my nostalgia food." He sniffed the air. "Faint traces of that around here, by the way."
Gren blinked. "..!"
"Other than that, the sweet ones are usually nice, but can sometimes be a little shallow if they aren't clever...sour are sarcastic, but usually try to think. Salty are rough and hardworking, bitter are cynical and sardonic, but dependable. They all have their good points, so I'd enjoy them all, but what really matters is the execution of it all, you know?"
"Yeah...sure does."

Azana blinked as well...faint traces? Could he actually smell out Eli? That was the only 'lusty person' she could think of, and Gren's reaction only added to that.
"That's about right," Tyler agreed, picking up his bowl and heading to clean it off. All in the execution...
"This is so cool," James said merrily, jotting down notes. "Not everyday ya get an interview like this...!"

"Ice cream, eh...?" Orrin said, walking in and beholding the improved machine. "I see...what was I again? Vanilla bean?"
"Sweet! Okay...so, um, what sort of physical needs to demons have? Do they need to sleep?" James asked, not having much of a basis to go on. He'd never gotten the chance to meet one face to face.
Azana breathed a sigh of relief. Who would've thought...? Eli's a comfort food, heh.
"He's not attacking anyone in here," Tyler reminded Gren. "Not if I can help it...hopefully, we can free ourselves from our current dependence soon, as well."
