"I believe so, yeah." she nodded. "I made sure it had a good vanilla."

"Not much by human standards, but we do." he nodded. "And we get hungry. Not all of us are soul-eaters, though. Some are okay on just flesh."

"No, I suppose he wouldn't." he hummed. "Speaking of, I heard about this deal you made. You're nuts, Tyler. But that's what I like about you."

Orrin returned from the kitchen with a scoop of pure white delight, simple vanilla ice cream. He took a bite and broke out into a smile. "You did wonderfully, dear."

"Ah, okay!" James was typing it all in, eager to learn all he could. "Do you guys have a lifespan, or do you just live forever once you've matured?"

Tyler smirked. "I have to say that's probably the best reaction I've gotten so far," he chuckled. "It's turning out even better than calculated...at the current rate, I'll easily be able to out-predict our common foe."

"That's somewhat comforting," Azana sighed, admitting slight defeat to Tyler's plan. "Still...are you really that comfortable walking into her presence?"

"Not particularly...but probably more so than anyone else who sticks around here."

Charlotte smiled proudly, swaying on her heels. "I do my best! Is it just right?"

"Well, since we don't live among natural predators, we just kind of live until something kills us. Usually other demons, in fights over food, territory, space, things like that. Hell's a self-regulating place that way."
he said, tail swaying lazily. "But getting old just shows that nobody's been able to kill you yet, so it gets respect."

"I can't imagine it's fun...about how many followers are there?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 8:45 pm

"It's a beautiful and delicate balance of vanilla flavor," Orrin nodded resolutely, happily taking another bite. "It's will go perfectly with anything else, I'm certain."

"Oh, I see...!" James said, absolutely rapt as he continued to type wildly. "Survival of the fittest in Hell...make a little sense why some of them would want to make themselves at home up here."

"I haven't taken the grand tour of the place," Tyler forewarned, "but in the main sanctuary is usually nine followers and the priestess. I can hear sounds and voices from other areas, but I don't know the layout or the total population. I'd probably have to crash a ritual to find that out."

"Like pomegranate?" she giggled.

"Well, up here's more of no man's land. Angels and demons are all over the place and free to fight. Some on either side are assigned to people for influencing, others protection...humans have the luxury of a free will, and each team's trying to persuade. So, even though we're always fighting out here, there's at least more food and resources."

Gren nodded, thinking for a moment. "Huh...and how big's the building?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:12 pm

"Hm, that might be worth a try," Orrin winked. "Have any left, or should I get my own?"

"Wow...I mean, I always knew you guys were sitting on shoulders and duking it out for folks, but--hey, Az! Think I can get her side of the story sometime?" James asked, hopeful.

"Erm...maybe?" Azana answered, voice uncertain. Usually, when she brought forth her bond's power, it left her wiped out. And a full invocation had her out for a day or two...was that worth it for an interview with James? Maybe was the best she could do.

"Smaller than the one they crashed last time, but still sizeable. Two stories with a basement...bit of land around it. Not quite as church-like, either, but the sigil graffiti is the same as we've seen," Tyler reported. He didn't want to admit it, but he was reluctant to do recon on the rest of the building. Being tied to Malachai as far as gaining entry did ensure that he'd have a way in, but to look around would likely mean doing it alone. Without knowing the building or the numbers, it didn't seem like the smartest move.

"I'll get some!" she said, trotting off, so returning with a cone. "Yum yum yummy!"

"Well, some of us demons do. Obviously not me, ha ha!"
he snorted. "I'm just here for kicks!"

"James, I think that wouldn't be good for Az."
frowned Gren. "It's not that easy on her, and would probably just annoy the angel. Anyway, sounds like they haven't got much going on, huh?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:45 pm

Orrin leaned over and took a light lick off the top, popping a spoonful of vanilla in soon after before the flavor faded. "...a perfect combination."

"Hey, I get that...I'm sure there's an angel or two wandering around for fun, as well," James laughed. "I know I'm in it for fun."

"I'll at least ask," Azana said with a sigh. "If Kasdeya's not going to be on the move anytime soon, it can't hurt. Besides, she'll insist on giving her side of the story if she knows you interviewed a demon."

"If you're going to do that, at least let me make sure I know the scale of their operation," Tyler said, shoving down that sense of dread. "I mean, a good portion of their followers were apprehended, so that cuts their power considerably...I doubt they got off with a year or less."

She blinked, cheeks getting a tinge rosy at the prospect as she sampled a fingerful of vanilla with her pomegranate. "...I don't think I'll be ordering much else anytime soon." she hummed, smiling.

"Angels aren't usually in for fun, actually...they have laws to obey that I don't, so, you know. They get in trouble for things more than I do. I mean, I'm already condemned to Hell, so they have that threat going for them. I've got different things to worry about, like angry angels."

"As long as they aren't making any sort of immediate attack, yeah?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:18 pm

"Well, I hope you don't sacrifice variety...you'll get bored far too easily," Orrin told her, taking a break from the bowl to brush her cheek. "Hm, you seem a little warm."

"I didn't think of that..." James pouted. "Must not be as fun...I wonder if any of them choose to leave?"

"I doubt it, but I can't be sure. Mal hasn't exactly given them much to work with, so I can guess it's safe for now," Tyler nodded. An educated guess, but still a guess.

"I'll ask her, and perhaps you can get your interview tomorrow, Tech," Azana set her bowl aside. "I could use some rest."

She smiled warmly, patting his cheek. "It's called blushing. Something I don't do often, but have found recent reason to, you see. A lovely chap came my way, and has this way of saying the most beautiful things by accident."

"Not many do. They're usually happiest in the presence unless they want to hit the field and exact his work by hand."
he yawned softly. "Mm..."

Gren nodded, checking his watch. "It's getting late...last call, everyone?"

"Oh? I'd love to meet him sometime, and thank him for doing such a thing for a wonderful person like yourself." Orrin gave a charming smile.

"Oh, I think I get it...thanks," James nodded before yawning. "I'm...actually tired? Weird."

"Eh, we can take a hint...probably better get some rest, Mal. Can't have you burning it off too quick, right?" He waved to the rest and headed upstairs.

"I'll introduce you two sometime...I think you'd get on smartly." she beamed. "In the meantime...join me for a tea nightcap?"

Malachai nodded. "We sleep most when we're between feedings, by the way. Like snakes." He stood up, stretching his wings and yawning widely. "Like now. Good night, everyone!" He strolled out into the pretty spring night.

Gren smiled a bit. "Come on inside a bit early tomorrow...you and I should have a chat."

"Yessir!"

The next morning, Gren and Malachai had spent an hour and some talking in the main room, ensuring the safety of the Inn's residents. An emptied teapot sat beside their cups, remnants of breakfast snacks littering saucers before them as Gren sat back with a sigh, lacing his arms behind his head. "Well, if that's the case, then I suppose I've got no complaints with your staying." he concluded.

"Thank you, Mr. Gren." he nodded, grateful. "I know it's a shifty thing to say it, but it's true: I don't have anything to gain from lying, and I promise that I won't hurt anyone."

"Well, that's good...puts you right next to the rest of us." he chuckled. "And it's pretty clear that you get why it's crucial that Violet doesn't find out."

The demon nodded. "Everyone's very protective of her here...you especially, in your own way."

"Aw, well...she needs it."

Malachai gave him a considering look, taking a deep breath before giving a light sigh. Gren gulped, realizing that a nose that could sniff out souls could very well tell his condition. There was no telling what this demon might say. He hastily feigned drinking the rest of his tea.

Violet walked downstairs, blinking at the two people she found downstairs. "G-good morning," she nodded shyly, sitting down with one of her sketchbooks.

Kristen walked in, her green shirt a far departure from her usual warm color preference. She intently concentrated, working on shifting a green flame to make a four-leaf clover...

"Good morning, Violet! Good morning Kristen!" beamed Malachai, waving.

Gren smiled to the ladies. "Morning...Happy St. Patrick's day, hum?"

"Oh! Aren't I supposed to wear green?"
