Pulling no essence of mushishi from this shapeshifter, Senpai's gaze moved back to the sunlight. Peru tweeted, "peep,"softly standing and stretching- no longer a tired chick.

Valkyrie shrugged and stepped back again, now standing with her feet shoulder-width apart.
The kitten mewed and looked into Malachai's eyes. She reached over and put a paw on his nose. Her claws came out but never touched his skin. They retracted as quickly as they came out. Her tiny body was buzzing with a steady purr. She seemed comfortable now, but still hadn't decided to change back to human form. She rubbed her face on his coat and wrapped her little arms around his neck.

"Chii!" offered a friendly little voice from the kitchen.
Malachai smiled warmly, booping her nose in turn. "Don't worry. We won't make you change back if you don't want to. I'm not even sure we could, really. You just get comfy and hang out there as long as you want, okay?" His fangs shone in a surprisingly sweet smile.

Senpai's left palm rested up in the sunlight freshly filled with grain for the chick- right arm throbbing in agony, face showing nothing of it- light to fill the darkness. Peru jumped and landed on the table, "Cheep," immediately going to the grain and picking at the seeds. Taking one after another and piling it out of Senpai's palm and onto the table- a morning ritual. Senpai stared into the sunbeams. This place was a hotbed for oddities and, so far, the smallest, gentlest mushishi.

Valkyrie blinked when she noticed his fangs. She was aware of what he was, but only subconsciously. She was so focused on this interruption in the peace of the inn that she didn't care to notice at the time. "Let me know when she wants to talk," she said, her hand on her temple. She lowered her hand to her side and made a fist. "I'm going into town for a bit; be back later."
The kitten mewed happily in Mal's company, and laid down on his shoulder. She lowered her head to rest, tucked her paws under her body, and curled her tail around one side of her.

"Okay! Bye lady!" he said, waving. "Have fun! Bring, um, chocolate, okay? I'm gonna...uh...oh! I'm gonna host!"

{Well that's embarrassing. I automatically assumed when I saw "fangs" XD. Werewolf, then?}
Valkyrie turned on her heel and walked out, speeding away on her bike.
The kitten drew her claws and lightly pressed them into Mal's coat for grip as he walked.
She raised her head and spoke into his ear. "I'm Lyra," she said cheerily.

He gestured to Senpai, excitedly mouthing 'she's talking to me!' before replying "No? I don't know if I like that or not, I've never tried it...but, oooh! Wanna get some food? Like, ice cream food?"

Palm empty of seed, Senpai produced a tiny emerald green saucer and with a small, silent gesture it filled to the rim. Peru began dipping his grain into the water, then finally began to eat. The picky young rooster was special- Senpai regretted the thought.
Malachai mouthed a phrase to Senpai, who gave only a nod, "perhaps not as helpless as perceived."
A mint leaf, potent with more than mint, produced from a hidden pocket became Senpai's morning meal. Morning's were a rough part of life for the two. Senpai had made note of the teeth- the staff had issued caution. The sensation of blessed mint shredding through the darkness- "A new branch."

A loud rumble thundered, too big to have come from this tiny little kitten, but it did! "I am hungry," Lyra noticed. "Ice cream sounds wonderful!"

"Please call me Senpai- 'miss' is too formal," Senpai requested. The burn tore through new roots, Senpai's eye closed partway, "Ice cream is a luxury I am unable to enjoy. I have heard it is pleasant."
