"In simplest terms? My hyperactive supergenius of a friend decided to reinvent the flying broom. This is what we wound up with," she said gesturing to the odd hybrid of technology and old-fashioned magic. The bristles were replaced with a strange crystal attached to things that looked like they came out of a sci-fi movie. "It works really well, actually."

(Ta! Rest Well!) Senpai nodded, " Yes I do enjoy my tea" Peru took a mighty leap to Senpai's head and settled at once in the tossled locks. Maroon eye opened long enough to glance at the contraption and pour a fresh cup of oolong, " Odd."

"Oh, hey...you're new," Azana took note, seeing her and the chick. She rested the contraption carefully, taking a seat nearby and hearing the comment. "Which, the machine or my friend? I think it applies to both."

" The contraption," Senpai said softly, maroon eye focusing on Azana. Peru lept with a great " peep!" Fluffing up at Azana and fluttering his little wings.

"Yeah, it's a little weird," Azana answered with a shrug, "but it works. That's mostly what I care about. Great for distances and speed, but illegal for anything official."

"I don't have anything against that," Azana nodded. "Walking or driving was my mode of transportation for the longest time. The whole broom thing was kind of shoved on me...and then I grew to love it." She rested her head on one hand, holding out another gently to Peep. "So, what dragged you in here?"

Peru would touch his beak to Azana's finger, "Peep!"
Senpai would shrug only one shoulder moving, "I go where the wind takes me...where the pull of the River seems strongest... a slow breath of relief- finally, three leaves and the pain was over- another battle one against the curse. "Though I would like to blame Peru for it- seems I'm not attentive enough on our journey."
Senpai sipped at the now cool tea, "Yourself?"

"You're a wandering sort," Azana nodded in understanding, though the mention of the "River" intrigued her. She was unfamiliar with anything like that. She idly pet the chick with that one finger as she was asked about her arrival at the Inn.
"I found this place in the midst of a war," she answered, eyes drifting down to the carving in the table. "I returned here afterwards on breaks from my investigation...before I knew it, I was practically family. Now I unofficially bounce people who break the rule; I don't bear the title, but everyone knows I do it."

Malachai had been caught in staring at the broom, trying to fathom what it was. It certainly didn't look like it was for sweeping floors anymore. At the topic of arrivals, he perked up a bit, hopeful. "Oh! Adam brought me here when I was lost after dinner! It- oh...um, well, nevermind." he said, starting with enthusiasm, petering down to sheepishness. He didn't think they'd like the story behind that.

Peru chortled merrily at the affection, his little feathers fluffing up- Peru began to preen. Vain little creature.
"I promise no trouble from myself or Peru."
Senpai turned slightly, maroon lens resting on Malachai, "I assume it's too gruesome to continue? I have heard various tales of Incubi- most turning out to be something completely different... a few very accurate." Senpai's tone was light, friendly but expression still vaguely pained- the last assumed incubus Senpai had been aware of had been a mushishi turning humans into hosts for its own purpose, a horrible fungus forcing a poor young couple to relive the life and death of their son over and over again.

"Yes, of course." he smiled, holding his arm over. It was apparent that is had begun as a simple binding spell to block anything more than the mildest of his magics, and later adapted to include a series of locks to gradually allow him more power. Currently, he was fully locked.
(Do I have that right, Az? :< )

(I um- am worried about posting before Az replies) Senpai looked over the seal- " Nothing as I've seen before," mild awe, the hand withdrew quickly, as if touching fire. Standing suddenly and picking up the ringed staff as two rings began to merge- Senpai twisted tattooed arm through them keeping them divided. " As I suspected." Peru hopped to the edge of the table and began gave a little peep shriek- an attempt at a crow.
