"Generally speaking, college football players aspire to play in the NFL if and when they get the chance after graduating from college," Alex explained, "But when the football players for the Army, Navy, and Air Force Academies graduate, they go on to become Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force officers. It's a well-known fact that playing football is the easiest thing that they do during their college education. You can say whatever you want about the game of football, but you have to respect those who put their lives on the line by pursuing a career in the military."

"Oh yes, that makes a lot of sense," Sofia said with a nod as she kept her eye on the clock, time moving far too fast for her liking. Soon enough it was time for them to get married and she had taken a shower an hour earlier before having to get ready. They really had about an hour and a half to to ready to leave for her parents house so Alex could take his time. Meanwhile Sofia's cousin showed up and she introduced her to Alex and Debra. It so happened that her cousin was a make up artist and happen to work along side celebrities. Some times she would stick with one for a year or so and sometimes she would only be needed for a couple months or weeks. While Debra and Alex were in the living room watching whatever they were watching Sofia was in the room getting ready, sighing every now and then. She didn't like this but she had to do it anyway. Her cousin was probably the only one who knew how much she hated the rich life.

Even though there was plenty of time to get ready for the party, Alex was fairly quick with his preparations. Soon he was dressed in his new suit and sitting in the living room while Sofia was finishing up her preparations. Debra was in the living room, and she remarked, "Looking pretty sharp, there, Alex. You know, I'm reminded of the scene from that movie about Johnny Cash. Someone said to him, 'What's with the black suit? You look like you're going to a funeral.' and Johnny Case said, 'Maybe I am.', or something like that."

It was reaching the time where they had to leave and Sofia stood staring at herself in front of the mirror. "I'm very sure this isn't the dress I asked for. It's too tight...and.." she sighed heavily as she looked at her cousin who stood there grinning.

"You know most women have their dresses wear them, though you're wearing that dress likes it's your b***h," She laughed and fixed her hair a bit before putting the finishing touches on her makeup. Finally done she stood back to look at her masterpiece. "Gorgeous. Seriously if you looked like this all the time you'd be the popular one at your school" Shrugging, knowing Sofia's answer to that she walked over to the door and motioned for Sofia to follow. And of course Sofia grew rather nervous, not because of what she wore, but about the fact that they would soon be heading off to that party. If she were to walk past Debra and Alex in public they would probably never guess it was her.

"Alright, it was nice meeting y'all," her cousin said as she simply left the apartment, shutting the door leaving Sofia to walk into the living room on her own. The heels she wore added to her height. She was around 5'6 without them but with the added four inch heels, she stood at 5'10. She stuck with a natural make-up and curly hair and her dress hugging her body perfectly to show off her curves and the slit showed over her long smooth legs.

"I suppose it's time to head off now,"
She muttered in a low voice, almost too low to catch.

The first thought that crossed Alex''s mind when he saw Sofia was 'I am going to a party with the hottest and sexiest woman in town!" What he said, though, was, "Sophia, you are absolutely beautiful!" Debra promptly raised her hand as she said, "I second that motion! Alex, you had better be careful! When you get to the party, half the guys there will probably want to steal Sofia from you.""

"Thanks," she muttered, blushing lightly. Right, she couldn't forget that whenever she was dressed like a normal girl aught to be dressed guys would hit on her left and right. It was utterly annoying. She walked over to Bo and patted his head before looking over at Debra, "If anything happens don't be hesitant to call." With a soft smile she walked out of the apartment and waited for Alex. Apparently her mother felt it would be better if one of their drivers came to pick them up in some Town car. This woman. Though it was nice that she didn't have to drive in this damn dress. So she would let Alex get in first as usual helping him in before getting in herself, the door shutting right when she sat down. In no time they drove off to their parents house.

"I'll tell you now, this party will be filled with a bunch of rich snobby people. Don't pay any mind to them. And if I act a bit different...well I suppose you figured out by now why..." With that she meant her mother. He met her at least twice and even with one introduction one would see why any child of that would act differently in front of her.

"My basic approach will be to not speak unless spoken to," Alex said in return, "Although I might garner some interest if I tell others about how I'm a football player. I'm sure that rich men like football as much as your average man, and I'll go so far to say that the rich are more likely to bet on football and other sports than poor folk because the rich can afford to lose their money. Also, it won't surprise me at all if at least one of the men at the party wants to tell me all about his 'old football injury' that he got playing for Harvard, or Yale, or whatever Ivy League college that he went to." The way that Alex had said that last part had suggested that, if one of the men actually talked about an old football injury, he probably would question the veracity of the man's story of an old football injury. That was the kind of thing that men lied about in order to look good, or to get out of doing something strenuous.

As soon as Sofia and Alex had left, Debra looked at Bo and said, "Well, it's just you and me, buddy!" Bo barked loudly as if he was expressing his approval. Debra then settled on the couch to watch TV. It was something that she was rarely allowed to do on a Sunday. Sofia and Alex had been gone about a half hour when the phone rang. For a while Debra wasn't sure if she should answer it or not. After all, Sofia might be calling for some reason. Making a quick decision, she picked up the phone before the answering machine started and cheerfully said, "Sofia and Alex's residence. Best friend Debra speaking." "Hello, Debra. It's me," her grandmother replied, "I just called to see how you are doing." In other words, her grandmother wanted to check to make sure that Debra was where she said she was going to be. Instead of calling out her grandmother on that, Debra said, "Yes, I'm just fine. No problems at all." "That's good. I'll see you later tonight," her grandmother said in return. Before her grandmother had the chance to hang up, Debra asked, "Hey, would you mind doing me a big favor? Could you bring me a large Hawaiian pizza and a two-liter bottle of Coke? I will really appreciate it if you can." After a brief pause, her grandmother said, "Well... alright. I'll bring you the pizza and a bottle of soda." Debra gave the directions to Sofia's apartment to her grandmother, and then hung up. She was reasonably certain that her grandmother will bring the pizza, but whether her grandmother brought a bottle of Coke or something else was yet to be determined.

With a nod she would let him do so though no doubt there would be several older women going up to him wanting to know about the marriage between him and Sofia, that was the conversations she wanted to avoid. Either way they soon pulled up to the mansion and she got out to see her mother and father walking out and going into the limo, clearly they made it in time...perfectly in time. Sighing she yet again helped Alex in the limo before getting in herself. Her parents sat across from them and so it was rather awkward though there was a good distance between them. Her father never spoke unless it was about business or he was with the other rick men though she didn't know what they spoke about since she never bothered to listen.

About half way into the ride to the party her mother finally spoke about how Sofia finally looked decent but of course it was not as good as her mother 'pictured' and she was sure to point out how she needed more make-up. Sofia pretend to listen as she nodded and 'uh-huh'ed her mother every now and then. When they arrived to a five star hotel, where the party was being held, she followed her parents, though stayed with Alex. She stuck close to him, her arm linking with his when they walked into the large ballroom where all the fancy rich people stood talking and 'having a good time'. Their chitter chatter filled the room and already she felt irritated. The moment they stepped in her father was noticed by the mayor and it was as if they were best buds as he waved him over and they began to talk. The same happened with her mother. Meanwhile as usual she captivated the attention from all the rich boys around her age though they couldn't really ignore the fact that she had her arm linked the another guy.

"Best of luck to the both of us," she muttered with a sigh as she walked in further with him.

Alex was a bit annoyed with the way that Sofia's mother was criticizing Sofia, but he wasn't surprised, and there really wasn't anything that he could do about it. After all, it wasn't like her mother would listen to him. They arrived at the party soon enough, and the moment that they walked in the room, Alex felt as if they had just stepped into the proverbial lion's den. He didn't have to look around to know that all of the young men that were his and Sofia's age were regarding him with envy. Sofia wanted to stick close to Alex, for obvious reasons, and Alex wanted to stay close to her, since he was obviously out of his league here. Just as the young men were envious of him, many of the young women who were present were clearly jealous of Sofia. It was just like in their high school, only with a higher social status. Again his lion's den metaphor came to mind, and it was increasingly appropriate. One thing that many people didn't realize or think about was that when a pride of lions went on the hunt, it would be the female lions who did all of the hunting.

"If I could I would leave now," Sofia muttered with a sigh as she looked at Alex but smiled at him nonetheless. "I forgot to tell you that you look handsome" She chuckled and walked in more with him as she aimed to head for an empty table so they could both sit there and relax but of course that couldn't be possible, before they could reach a table one of the older women came up to her and greeted her clearly knowing her for quiet some time.

"Oh heaven's, i'ts been an awfully long time since I lost saw you! And beautiful as always," she chuckled and then dragged Sofia away from Alex as if this was what the woman had planned. Her husband swooped in to keep Alex 'company'. It didnt' take long for the woman to dump her off on her son....for what seemed like the longest time she had been trying to get Sofia to hook up with her son for obvious reasons. If they got their son to marry her, that would mean the family business would be passed down to their son and so clearly it would mean more money for them. Such greedy people. Their son was obnoxious and the 'popular' guy to his school which happened to be a private preppy school. To sum it all he was an a*****e who was full of himself and now she had to stand there and listen to him jaw on about how cool he was etc. etc.

In spite of Alex and Sofia's best efforts to stay together, a snobbish woman managed to get a hold of Sofia and drag her away someplace, while a boorish gentleman quickly filled the vacancy created by Sofia's enforced departure. It took Alex all of two seconds to figure out that the man was running interference for the snobbish woman, who was probably the man's wife. Alex was only half-listening to the man, and so he couldn't repeat much of what the man had said, except to acknowledge that the man had been talking about money. After a couple discreet glances around while the man blabbered on obliviously, Alex spotted Sofia. Instead of being with the snobbish woman, she was stuck with one of the young men that had been watching Alex with poorly disguised envy. The snobbish woman's intent became perfectly clear. As soon as there was a pause in the boorish man's monologue, Alex said to him, "That's all very interesting. Will you excuse me for a few moments? I should see if my wife needs something to drink." Alex had made it a point to say 'my wife' instead of just Sofia. If there was anyone at the party that was unaware of the fact that Alex and Sofia were married, Alex intended to fix that bit of ignorance as quickly as possible. That might reduce the number of hassles that he and Sofia might have to face as the party progressed.

It was oh so clear that Mr. narcissist had just a bit too much wine, the parents obviously not caring that their under age children were drinking alcohol. In the world of the rich they could do whatever the hell they wanted thinking there were no consequences. Sofia had made it clear that she was here with her husband and yawned with her left hand to show the wedding band clearly seen on her finger but that sure didnt' stop the guy from jawing on and on about whatever he spoke about, trying to impress her and what not. This hadn't been the first time she was stuck talking to him. For the past five years whenever she was dragged to a social event her parents were invited to, he and his parents would always be there and she would end up stuck talking with him though he did all the talking and she would simply zone out and not pay attention to a single word he said. At this point the smell of alcohol coming from his mouth began to irritate her more and more.

Sighing heavily she rose her hand to stop him from proceeding with what he was saying, "I apologize for cutting you off but I aught to find my husband..." She had turned feeling like a bird ready to fly out of it's cage for the first time in many years. Just being there listening to him was torture but right when she had opened her wings to fly out, the door was shut in her face. Though in this instant she had been grabbed by the arm, forced to turn back around. With the heels she had on she nearly fell but she was caught in his arms with his hands on her upper arms with his filthy lips on hers. It was not only embarrassing but infuriating that he had dared to do such a thing. She would not allow it to last any longer than it did and began trying to push him off though even she wasn't as strong as he. She didn't realize that Alex had been making his way over so it was unclear how he saw the whole thing. Either way around thirty seconds or so of the kiss she had kneed him right on his family jewels and so he was forced to break away. She had quickly rubbed her lips completely disgusted while he knelt on the floor grumbling and whimpering from the sheer impact, she didn't knee him gently, she had put all her force into it. This didn't go unnoticed as some of the other guys laughed, some of the girls gasped and glared at her while his mother had rushed over. There would be severe consequences...Sofia could feel it but it didn't matter to her because she would not allow someone like him to disrespect her in such a foul manner. Some would say it was just a kiss, but to her it was violation to her being. If she could she wouldn't mind slapping him hard across the face.

It had taken Alex a while to get to Sofia's side. Not so much because of his crutches, since he had become rather skillful at using them, but because of the crowd. He was close enough to see the whole kissing thing from the beginning, along with the results. When he reached Sofia's side, he quietly said to her, "Nice shot!" Alex then waved the end of one of his crutches in the guy's face as the guy lay on the ground, and Alex said threateningly, "You, sir, are a cad and a bounder, and you owe Sofia a big apology. If you ever try to man-handle my wife again, you will find my crutch sticking out of your backside. Oh, and that's in addition to what Sofia will do to you." In any other place, he would have used stronger words than 'cad' and 'bounder', but those words seemed to be appropriate for the occasion.

What occurred next was something Sofia could honestly not remember for it was all a blur and it was as if she had blacked out for that moment. What had happened was the mother had helped her son up and began to yell at Sofia for doing such a thing and began to excuse her of being the one to seduce her son into doing what he had done. Yes in other words she was standing there calling her a slut. Perhaps it was in that instant that Sofia had blacked out either way after that her mother had rushed over and rather than defend her own daughter she too began to scold her for acting not so lady like. All three began to argue as Sofia started to defend herself, and rather than not letting her mother step all over her this time she was sure to speak her mind. Before the arguing could draw more attention Sofia was pulled away, her mother grasping her arm rather hard and pulled her out into one of the balconies. Alex was left there to simply watch through the glass door as they continued to argue. It was quiet enough to be able to hear some of their shouts. Looking around one could see that her father was still with the 'boys' as if this was a regular thing and clearly not giving a s**t.

It was the moment Sofia yelled out "What kind of mother are you!" that brought her back to reality. It was a slap across the face that stunned her back and all the rage within her had caused her to raise her hand to slap her mother back but she hadn't done it. She dropped her hand and it was after the slap that the anger and the desire to defend herself melted away. It was as if she were a child all over again. She was defenseless...hopeless and pathetic, so pathetic that even her own parents didn't want her. The building anguish had beaten her down to the lowest point of her very self. Who and what was she? The night had turned into a nightmare rather quickly. Her mother wasn't finished tearing her own daughter more but Sofia had enough and so she had turned and opened the door to leave though her mother caught her arm again though this time Sofia pulled her arm away abruptly and rushed out of the room. At the moment she forgot all about Alex because all she could think about was going some place where she could be alone and be consumed the darken sorrows that never ceased to leave her. Once she had left the ballroom she had shed off those god forsaken heels and simply ditched them in the hall and simply ran out of the hotel. She ran and ran with no destination in mind. She was lost in the night and Alex would no doubt be unable to find her. His best chance would be hoping that she ran back home but if he headed there he would find Debra and Bo waiting for his and Sofia's return. She was gone.
