As she touched his wings, she would feel their dragonfly-wing consistency, fragile, but somehow nowhere near as breakable as a normal wing. It had all of the sturdiness of skin, still able to be cut or broken.

Before he'd said so, he'd stopped and closed his eyes. He opened his eyes, poking to her and resting clasped hands around her midsection.
"Our numbers tend to fluctuate rapidly, just had to check there real quick."

He shrugged.
"Not to make us sound so free spirited, but we don't actually have a marriage system when you live within the hive... You simply mate as you wish."
Bure blushed a bit.
"I'm one of a few that aren't really a fan of such open mating..."

She smiled, "That's good news for me then I'm the jealous type. We...mate for life, if our mate dies we ah shut down. We don't die- but the two elders their mates died and they went into recluse." She rested her hands on his, changing subjects as she fiddled with her rings, "How do you remember all of those birthdays? You did say you go long spans without seeing one another..is that because you can just check in at will? And how does that work? Like- can they poke into your mind to give advice and things whenever they want? Like at awkward times?"

"Hm... It's more like, ahhm... You know how you can't exactly remember all of your childhood detail for detail? It works about the same with me; I really only remember about ten years at a time, and if something I see should remind me of something that happened before that, I simply remember it. Far less complicated than having that much memory sounds like being. As far as how the one mind thing works... Well, you know how I said that we mate pretty openly in the hive? It gets to the point where there's not a horrible amount of attachment to the offspring. And us offspring don't really mind because we share that mental link that allows us to understand one another instantly... Nothing personal, but all family, that's how we are."
He waved a hand shaking his head.
"If you're wondering about whether or not they'll ever butt in on us, don't worry. They're a lot more trueblooded pixies than I, thy wouldn't leave the hive any time soon, especially at their age."

"You said at 3,000 you were still a child...how long is your lifespan?" Catching his hand, she'd look it over carefully before letting go. Standing up, going to her dresser and digging in a small box which was resting on the top, "What kind of traditions do you have?"

"A well-aged, death by natural causes sort of pixie can live to be around 90k years, maybe? Our lifespan has been dying down lately, we used to hit the 100k years before you died without fail."
He crossed his arms, looking at the ceiling as he thought.
"Traditions, huh... Not many besides the induction of a pixie to the hive and the Queen's birthday. I've learned to take on human traditions more, they seem like a lot more fun!"

"That's a long life to live...I don't know if my kind comes anywhere close." She looped a glimmer of blue on a chain and closed the box, going back to him and plopping down, very unladylike but effective, "Well Huldra only have a few traditions that I'm allowed to know about until after I ah..breed," she blushed lightly- even the thought was still unnerving. "Then the elders will tell me more- but one of them is I give my betrothed a gift. It's like marking your territory... like humans when they give one another engagement or wedding bands. But in this case it offers a degree of protection." She'd hold up the adjustable chain, a flat coin sized vibrant blue stone hung from it. The stone glistened catching the light of the room it resonated with a silent hum, "We can...adjust the chain if we need to.. none of it is silver. Are you allergic to silver? Are you allergic to anything?" worry tinged the edges of her tone.

He rubbed his arm as she mentioned breeding, looking over the pendant with slightly pursed lips.

She laughed, the song of soft chimes, her tone was kind, "It's your choice to accept it, Bleghabie- but this is only an engagement gift. It can take years...I mean YEARS to actually get to the marriage part..." she looked a little sad for a moment, but it faded back to a smile, "and if the betrothal doesn't work out- we'll still be friends and it'll just be a good story."

Bure's head fell to the side, confused.
"So betrothal is... Sort of a year of what? Dating or something? Do I have to jump through flaming rings or hunt down an animal for you?"
His eyebrows met together and rose, looking a little lost.
"I'm not entirely knowledgeable with human tradition let alone those of the Huldra..."

She'd set the chain and gem neatly on the bed and stand, arms crossed under her bust she'd rock on her feet a bit, "Well... first off. It can take more than a year- Adrienne's was within a week because she was pregnant first, but the Elder Jeannette's took twenty years because she has a coloration from her fathers lineage which they weren't..." she'd shake her head, that was not what he was asking. He didn't want to know things like that.
"First there is an informal announcement to the of kin of both parties, paperwork to notify any other suitors the bidding is cancelled, background filing to keep the suitors investors content with the situation, the formal announcements which requires a day or so in formal company- mostly smoothing things over and showing off the potential groom, more filing to handle complaints or questions, background work...lineage, diseases, benefits, disadvantages, financial drafting, breeding potential..." she realized she'd been pulling at her rings, she was nervous. She was rarely nervous. She smiled, looking to him, "No flaming hoops, no fights to the death...maybe an assassin, but those are very uncommon," she bit her lip, "We get to know one another on the in between, dating, talking and the like- once the informal announcement goes out my elders notify the suitors and my clients... so I'll have a great deal of- free time."

Max tilted her head, listening to the two talk a while as she tried to figure out a good way to explain all of this technology to her. Ty would've been better at this, she guessed...but he wasn't here. He left it to her, so she'd do her best!
"So, um...computers are these boxes of circuits an' stuff. They store data, and they can only do what we tell 'em. I guess kinda like a golem or somethin'. An electric-powered golem. The commands get really complex sometimes, like with that game Mal's got. It might look ta ya like there are little guys in there, but they're just pictures and data that've been commanded to act a certain way. The more complex the commands have gotten, the closer and closer they've gotten to seeming like they're alive. But they aren't."
She called JIM over, giving him a light pat on the head. "Like this little guy. He's a computer in a moving metal shell. He can interact with you, and he can tell when the room needs cleaning, but he only knows all of that because we popped the commands and programs into him. He knows only what we tell him and nothing more. There's some really smart people who wanna make a machine that is complex enough to think, but it's been really hard to do so far."
