"There's no reason for you to blame yourself for anything," Alex insisted as he reached up to gently brush away the tear, "If your parents are that thoughtless and careless, it's their loss, not yours. Besides, even if they bothered to give you anything, it will be only because they feel obligated, rather than because they want you to be happy. Anyway, you know that there are people who do want you to be happy. Take my parents, for instance. They haven't forgotten any of my birthdays, and now you can count on them to remember all of your birthdays from now on. I would have gotten you something nice for your birthday if I had known. I don't mean that as an accusation, though." Alex thought that it was important for him to make his good intentions clear, even though he knew that Sofia didn't want him to make a big deal out of her birthday. In an effort to distract her, he added, "Instead of worrying about what your parents should have done and things that you can't change, why don't you think about something pleasant, like a list of things that you want to buy at the art store."

Sofia stood up, her arms crossed below her chest as she let out a heavy sigh. "You don't necessarily understand how it feels to be invisible all your life so I'm not surprised you don't understand." Looking up at him she smiled slightly, "And it's fine. It's good that your parents...are just that, parents. Anyway this is why I try not to think of my birthday in general. So next year perhaps you can remember this...and maybe try and let your parents know that I don't like celebrating it, though if they ask don't tell them why." Walking past him she then headed to the bedroom to sleep since she remembered that tomorrow they did in fact have school. That was good. A day of learning would help her put all this behind her.

Alex followed Sofia into the bedroom and prepared for bed as quickly as he could. Once he was nestled under the blanket, he leaned over to give Sofia a gentle kiss on the cheek and wished her a good night. As he settled down for the night, he was thinking that now that he had seen Sofia's mother in action, so to speak, it could be said that in comparison, Brandy was a little more than a minor annoyance. Helen, on the other hand, was a different matter entirely.

The night had gone by rather fast and before she knew it, the sun was up and it was time for school. Sofia forced herself to get up and took a cold shower to help wake her up more and soon she was in the kitchen making breakfast, trying to forget what had happened yesterday. Nothing today would be as bad so she could take on whatever anyone dished out at her today. Bo was fed and she went back into the bedroom to go wake Alex up if he had not yet woken up.

Sophia had been up for a little while when Alex woke up, but in comparison to when he had gotten up on previous mornings, he was awake sooner than usual. This was partly due to how he needed to get up earlier to compensate for the way that his injury slowed him down, but also partly because he was getting used to getting up earlier, as opposed to the last possible moment to get to school on time. When Sofia returned to the bedroom, Alex was sitting on the edge of the bed, and he smiled and cheerfully said, "Good morning! Did you sleep well last night?"

"I slept fairly well, how about you?" She answered as she turned to leave the room, figuring he would come and follow her into the kitchen where breakfast sat waiting. She didn't want any lack of sleep due to all the negativity yesterday and so she managed to let it all go and so she had a dreamless sleep. Today was a new day and she no longer wished to think back on what had happened. There was no point in thinking about any of that anymore. Just like before, breakfast went on in silence as she had nothing to really say and so she just ate what her stomach allowed her to keep down before washing her dishes and waiting for him to finish so they could head off to school...well pick up Debra then head to school. Sofia nearly forgot that this Friday would be the concert and so she had to focus more on that then anything else.

"I slept pretty well, as a matter of fact. That just goes to show that I'm getting used to this cast. Still, I'll be glad when I can get rid of it," Alex replied as he followed Sofia into the kitchen. As he sat down to eat, he continued, "I'm thinking about going to your concert this Friday. I'll have to talk to my coach so that I'll be excused from going to the game, but I think that I can convince him." Now that Sofia had become an important part of his life, he felt that it was important for him to not only show that he remembered her concert, but that he was willing to show up for it. It would be a bit strange for him to not be at a football game on Friday, but on the positive side, he wouldn't be stuck on the sideline and feeling nearly useless. Furthermore, he believed that he could talk his coach into letting him miss the upcoming game.

"Oh that's right, when are you getting your cast off? I remember what the doctor had said a few days ago but now it escaped my mind." Sofia muttered as she played with her food again trying to remember that specific date but she figured Alex would be one to remember since he was no doubt counting the days and weeks to get the darn thing off. Taking a eye of some of the scrambled eggs she glanced up at him a bit surprised that he was willing to skip out on a game to go to her concert. That night would be the first time she ever conducted so she was already nervous.

"You don't have to go if you don't want to, but if you do then I'll be sure to reserve you a spot. A lot of people are actually showing up. Those who aren't going to the game of course." The football team was popular but the school band was right up there as well in a sense that the band won many competitions and well...they played wonderfully. Never had they had a disasterous concert and Sofia was praying that she wouldn't ******** this one up.

"It's kind of hard to pin an exact date," Alex said in answer to Sofia's question, "Since it depends a lot on how well the surgery goes. That will also determine how soon I can start physical therapy and how long that I'll have to do that. Once I do get the cast off, I'll probably need to wear a hinged leg brace for a while after that." After a brief pause, he continued, "I was just thinking that it will be helpful to the school band if I do go to the concert, because when others hear that I'm going to the concert, they'll want to go as well to find out what it is that I find to be so interesting about the band. Once they've heard the band play, they will be interested enough to keep attending the concerts." In other words, Alex was going to use his popularity to promote the band by simply being at the concert.

"Yes, true true.." She mumbled with a nod as she took a sip of her orange juice and glanced up at him. Sofia hardly took notice of how close they were getting and how easier it was to talk to one another though she still wouldn't go and talk to him during school hours due to all the harrassment and what not. Who knows what would happen if people saw taht they actually liked each other. Either they would accept her or they would hate her even more than before.

In haling deeply she spoke, "There's no need for you to do that. The less people the better....I've never been a conductor before so I might end up messing it all up..." Sighing she began to play for her food again.

Finally she noticed the time. "Oh! We gotta get going." She was then rushing off toward the car and after saying goodbye to Bo she helped Alex in and drove off toward school, picking up Debra in the process.

"Good morning!" Debra said cheerfully when Sofia and Alex picked her up for school, and she informed them, "My grandmother was curious about how much you enjoyed that party, and so I told her that you went, shook hands with the mayor, were bored out of your minds the entire time, and came home as soon as people started to get drunk. My grandmother thinks you chose the perfect time for you to leave." It seemed that they had barely had time to arrive in their psychology class and sit down when the assistant principle arrived followed by a woman who was one of the gym coaches, and Brandy was following her with the pleased smile of the cat that had just ate the canary. "I'm sorry for the disturbance, but there's an important matter that needs to be dealt with," the assistant principle said to the psychology teacher. Debra wasn't the least bit surprised when he then turned to her and stated, "From what Brandy has told us, you are in the habit of bringing a knife with you to school, which is against the rules. While I am not completely convinced that such is the case, it is something that can't be ignored, and so I must ask you to accompany Mrs. Baker to the girls' bathroom so that we can settle this one way or the other." Debra let out a sigh of resignation and stood up with the air of someone who was being greatly imposed upon. Needless to say, Brandy was smirking at her in a 'Ha! Ha! You're in trouble!' kind of way. Instead of giving Brandy the satisfaction of getting a response from her, Debra followed Mrs. Baker to the bathroom without saying a word. She could have made a fuss about this major inconvenience, but it wouldn't have done any good. Instead, she found satisfaction of knowing that things weren't going to turn out the way that Brandy expected. Debra concluded that this morning's hassle was due in part to the fact that Brandy was a vindictive b***h, albeit an ineffective one, and in part because it was Monday.

As soon as Debra had left the classroom with Mrs. Baker, Brandy walked over to Sofia and smugly remarked, "If you expect anyone to like you, then maybe you shouldn't be hanging around with that juvenile delinquent anymore." That, of course, was ignoring the fact that Debra wasn't the reason why hardly anyone liked Sofia and that Sofia wasn't interested in becoming popular. Alex had known that trouble was brewing the moment that Brandy had came into the classroom. He had also gotten the impression that Debra had gone through something like this before, and was expecting this kind of trouble. Furthermore, it didn't seem to him that Debra was the least bit concerned.

My god! Sofia was getting so fed up with Brandy she could hardly bit her tongue any longer. Of course now that Helena (was her name? XD) had returned she was far more worried about that popular girl then this bimbo. Helena was much smarter and more sly then Brandy who was horribly sloppy and never thought anything threw. With a soft sigh she looked at Brandy and smiled ever so softly.

"I assure you that I'd much rather hang out with a juvenile delinquent, as you stated, then hang out with people who do not like me or such as yourself have an IQ compared to that of a Chimpanzee. Chimps are rather smart however...I think it's an insult to the Chimps if I compare you to them." Now if Brandy got anything she just stated, Sofia pretty much told called her stupid.

"You aught to go to class, you are disturbing my teachers leacture." With her final words she looked back at the board and continued taking notes, fully ignoring Brandy's presence.

Several minutes passed before Debra and Mrs. Baker returned to the classroom. Taking advantage of the relative privacy of the girls' bathroom, Mrs. Baker had conducted a very thorough strip search, and so it was a good thing that Debra had left her butterfly knife in her dresser drawer in her bedroom. Even so, Debra bore the expression of someone whose dignity had been affronted. Mrs. Baker went over to the assistant principle and whispered something in his ear, at which time he said, "My apologies, Debra." Turning to Brandy, he continued, "Young lady, if you insist on carrying on these petty and childish feuds with your classmates, could you at least have the courtesy to not involve the school's faculty? Oh, and congratulations! You've just earned yourself detention for today!" "What?" Brandy exclaimed in alarm, "But... but... I... she..." Speaking to the teacher again, the assistant principle said, "Again I apologize for disrupting your class." He then left the classroom with Mrs. Baker close behind, and Brandy trailed after them while stammering, "But... but... but..." Feeling that now was the perfect time for her to make a comment, Debra raised her right hand with her middle finger held down by her thumb and her other fingers extended, and she called out, "Hey Brandy! Read between the lines!" That, of course, earned her a scowl from the teacher, but Debra didn't care. She leaned close to Sofia and very quietly said, "In case you're wondering, I haven't brought my knife with me to school ever since that one day, just in case something like this happened. What I don't understand is why it took Brandy this long to do it."

Sofia watched the rest of the things unfold as Brandy was the only one to get in trouble, a satisfying feeling. Turning her attention over to Debra she chuckled softly and simply replied with, "It's Brandy after all." Anyone smart enough would have gone right away to a teacher the very day it happened but clearly she hadn't done so. It was pleasing to here the she had detention and Debra got out of all this due to the fact that she probably had all this planned. Strategy was the way to go.

(I don't have much planned, if you do then let me know lol if not then lets just time skip to Friday :3)
