Kiran would silently excuse himself to refresh his tea. He was certain that mechanical sound was coming from the new guest. It was rude to pry and it was almost killing him. Kiran wound stand in the kitchen and make Miss Lin some tea as well. Coming back, he would place the cup for her on the table and seat himself. His ears folded down only slightly, the edge of the left twitching as tracking the mysterious sound.

Kal's apologies came to a stop as Lin bowed to him. He nodded back, understanding that the matter was settled. "Thank you, I'm sure l will." Taking up his brandy once more he took a deep sip.

Whizzzz

With his inner mechanisms performing almost optimally, he regarded the others. "Well, this Inn seems rather cozy. Is it always this quiet?" he asked, looking about the room. He could hear the sound of rushing water from outside. It was a pleasant place.

He smiled to Miss Lin, he wasn't very good at making things just yet- he could barely but bread together to make a sandwich. He'd only intended to do something nice for the lovely woman. He had replied very softly, his ears drooping a small amount, "Y-y-y-you are q-q-q-uit-te w-w-w-welc-c-come."

Kiran's eyes set right on the new guest, he was certain now. That sound was coming from the inside of that man! No... that's impossible. Ha. Yes...impossible. Impossible in an inn with demons. Kiran gestured to his ears, "I-it all d-d-d-dep-pends on h-h-how w-w-well y-y-you h-hear."

Lin looked at Kiran, then Kal. She listened but did not hear anything. What was the rabbit eared man talking about, she was confused as well.

Kal nodded. He supposed that if elongated ears on animals could produce heightened hearing, it could do the same for a person. The principle was essentially the opposite of a megaphone.

"I see," he said, sipping his brandy, "that's quite amazing, Mr. Degas. I suppose you must hear the other guests in their rooms. I imagine that could be quite a burden."

His eyes went wide, the small tufts of fur on the ends of his ears flaring in surprise. A strong sensation of panic began to arrest his lungs. Kiran's blush deepened and he shook his head, "N-n-n-no! Oh n-no! I h-have l-long l-l-l-learned t-t-t-to f-f-filt-ter out m-many t-things s-s-such as v-v-oices and b-b-breath. H-h-heart-t-b-b-b-eats are t-t-too c-c-consist-t-tant t-t-to f-f-fade o-out. Also I s-s-sleep w-w-ith earp-plugs."

This explained, Kiran would produce his inhaler and take a long pull from it. Bowing his head to hide his beet red face. Praying for a less than angry or panicked reaction.

The clockwork man finished the last of his brandy, and set it down. The poor fellow. He was causing Kiran quite a bit of trouble. He could hear Kal's inner workings, and his comment had caused the man quite a bit of distress. Gears whirred as decided it would probably be best if he removed himself from the room. He'd already had a flask of whisky before arriving, so his self-winding mechanism should keep him running at least until late evening. Maybe by that time, the fellow will have gone to bed.

Kal sat forward in his seat, nodding as though nothing strange was occurring. "I see, I had thought it would be hard to sleep with the constant muffled noises through walls. I imagine it could be quite maddening, but then Mr. Degas as you say, you've learned to cope with it."

The clockwork man, clapped his knee, and stood up from the stool. "I'm afraid, I'm a little weary from my journey here. I think it might be best if I rested a while." he said before looking to Lin, "Miss Ling, as you are a regular patron here, might you perhaps know which rooms are free for occupation?" Perhaps with less people in the room, Kiran could calm himself, and the walls of the building would dampen any displeasure the Kal caused him.

Kal gathered his belongings, before nodding to the other two men in the room. "Gentlemen, it was a pleasure. Perhaps I'll see you this evening when I feel more refreshed." he said, before following Lin upstairs. As he followed her, the clockwork man attempted to gauge how far he would have to be before his voice would be muffle enough to be ignored by the fellow downstairs. He really didn't want to cause any more distress to the man.

"I hope Mr. Degas is alright. He seems to be quick to fluster," Kal said when he decided they'd walked far enough.
