[RP] The Inn of Peace - IoP (Open to all)

Kiran would not say a word. A small smile appeared on his gentle face as his hand flew, in a charming script on the paper, with each word. It did not take a careful eye to see his ears were twitching, for Kiran this meant the words were being memorized as they were spoken. Not once did his oceanic gaze fall to look at the paper- he had no need to, this was something well known and practiced. He would watch her gestures, her expressions and once in a while a small quick sketch would be placed.

Angeles watched the man's hand dance across the paper and she smiled a bit. Somehow, she expected it to be as such, "I initiated myself into soon after the death of my husband by avenging his death and killing the man responsible, and then the vampires who had actually done the deed, I've been a hunter ever since, for nearly five-hundred years now. It's a difficult job, but one I'm used to. You need to be aware of the different variants of vampires that are around, and learn how to defend yourself from and defeat each one,

"It's much more difficult to do as a human, being a vampire myself evens the playing field, but I did hunt as a human for a while, and I found it much, much harder to do," she had almost died before returning herself. She thought back to that battle and frowned a little bit. This memory was a bit too recent to look back upon with nothing but a feeling of nostalgia.

Kiran was happy to see she paid little mind to his small recording talent. Most reacted with curiosity or mild awe. It was a small, though not unpleasant change. The sound of her voice was alluring, motions graceful and his notes made mention of those things here and there. As her pause a sketch would appear, her expression was not something to be lost to only memory. Kiran waited for her to collect her thoughts.

"If and when all else fails, it comes down to your skills as a fighter to survive an encounter. Survive, not win. If you don't have the tools needed for a certain vampire often times the only thing you can do is retreat, get what you need and hunt them down again. Garlic is the best deterrent, many variants are spurned by it as a rule, if not a weakness, then because of their strong sense of smell. There are books on telling the different varieties and detailing weaknesses and strengths, studying them is the best course of action.

"It's also a bit of detective work," Angeles said with a small smirk at some sort of inside joke, "whenever news of vampire attacks come around you need to figure out what's actually going on. You don't want to slay a benevolent vampire, that's murder, and often times some person or other will cry wolf either because they want that certain person out of the way, or some young person suddenly regrets asking to be turned and thinks that killing the sire will be a cheap and easy way to return to being human, though honestly, drinking the black orchid potion is far cheaper and easier.

"There's a lot of traveling involved because of how few and far-between those genuine cases are, very rarely do you get to call one place home," she nodded and smiled again at Kiran and thought of what else she could talk about being a hunter."

Kiran had underlined a few things by now. Questions for later, he quietly hoped she would be willing to elaborate. He took a moment to sip his tea, the china making a good deal of noise thanks to his tremor. A small blush crossed the top of his nose- the only time he'd looked away was at her smile. Perhaps it was her lack of a heartbeat which caught him off sorts or it was the smile itself. Kiran had a strange sensation he was sitting close to a predator... he took a soft calming breath as he could feel his lungs begin to tighten. He offered a small smile back, a silent encouragement to continue.

Angeles saw the smile and hummed, raising her eyes to the ceiling to think of what else she could say, "speaking of wolves, there's a lot to learn about werewolves as well, even being a vampire hunter, as several variants have control over them. Silver is the best bet in those scenarios, nearly all werewolf variants are weak to silver," she rested her elbow on the bar and rested her chin lightly against the back of her hand.

"Sorry, I've never really thought about the small details of my job, I'm not sure entirely what to talk about," she said honestly, still smiling, "do you have any questions?"

Kiran only took a single line on werewolves. He'd asked Malachai on those and would ask about them later. As Miss Valentine had referred to herself as a vampire hunter the information on the wolves did not seem to related. He cleared his throat and wheezed when he started to speak. Producing his inhaler the long eared man would have to take a few pulls in order to gather himself.

Once he was able to breath again, Kiran's tone was polite, "T-t-to st-start I h-hope y-y-you d-d-don't f-find m-me r-rude in ask-king wh-why y-you d-don't h-have a h-heartb-beat?"

Angeles smiled as he asked, it was a sort of proud grin, so those ears weren't just there for show, "I'm a vampire, Stroker variant. My heart doesn't beat, among other things, other traits," she answered simply enough, then waited with a small smile for the next question.

Kiran gave a small nod. Truth was she had mentioned it in the very beginning what she was, but Kiran had (and still did) maintain a small amount of doubt. It was the timid critic within him to always maintain suspicion. Especially with such a blatant announcement of breed. Even dear Malachai had maintained a deal of modesty with his being a demon. Kiran always assumed it was because of people such as himself, as the Incubus certainly was not shy. Ah- he was staring.

He was correct in his assumption of her being a predator- he gave not a glance anywhere else. She seemed tame, but so did a deal of things before they struck. Especially women- he smiled at the thought. It certainly wasn't a clever one, but enjoyable enough.

"F-f-five h-hund-dred y-y-years is a l-long t-t-time to w-work. Y-you m-must f-f-find it q-qu-quit-te enj-j-joyab-ble. H-hav-v-e y-you enc-c-count-t-ered m-many h-h-hunt-ters in your t-t-time? Of-f-fered a g-g-guid-ding h-hand?"

"Enjoy it...," she stopped to consider this for a moment then added, "no, I don't enjoy it," but she was fine with moving on to his other questions, "I have encountered many hunters in my time, yes. I can remember all their names, there are not very many, and occasionally we will team up to face a more powerful or more numerous threat. I've just returned from traveling with one in fact."

She closed her eyes in thought for only a few seconds, "I have never taught another how to be a hunter, I have taught one other how to be a vampire, though, he lives here, I believe."

Kiran would only nod, making a small notation by the final piece. He would continue, "C-c-c-cert-t-tainly n-n-not a-all the l-l-lore is t-t-true ab-bout v-v-vamp-pires. W-w-w-would y-you m-mind exp-p-plain-ning a f-few of the t-t-tr-trut-t-hs f-f-from f-f-fict-tion?"

"Well, that's the thing about that. All the lore is true about vampires, it just depends on what kind you're talking about. Certain traits belong only to a certain variant. For example, my own, contrary to popular belief, Stroker vampires can go out in sunlight, we don't burn, but we lose all of our powers. Silver does not harm us either, but blessed items and symbols of Christian faith repel us. We cannot cross running water of our own power, we must be carried, I can control nocturnal animals to my will, call the weather, and command fire. Just to name a few abilities. But, my companion, his sort of vampires become immobile during the day, and burn under sunlight, otherwise they are the same as mine, with some things scientifically and genetically added. And his type can reproduce, mine can't, save through feeding our blood to a human."

She nodded, then smiled again, still not touching the cup of tea.

"D-d-do m-many who are t-t-turned r-r-rej-ject or r-r-reg-gr-gret b-b-being t-t-turned?"

"Some do, some are drawn in by the romantic aspect, blinded by the seduction and the 'aristocracy' that is implied in being a vampire without realizing the predator that a vampire is, and the veritable leech they must become, depending on another race to survive. In the past, the only ways you could react is in anger, or becoming suicidal. Now there's the black orchid serum. They have a choice now, they can turn back if they want. Makes things easier, allows those who really want to live this life to continue, while those who can't handle it can become human again. But to your actual question, do many? No, actually, often something simply changes in the brain that allows them to cope and fit into their new place in society, some people have the willpower, to reject that programming, and some have the open mind, to simply accept it."

Kiran frowned ever so slightly. A chemical change which made you cope? It sounded so odd. His smile was quick to return. He set his pen down and sipped his tea, "Th-thank y-you, M-M-Miss V-V-V-Valent-t-tine. I b-b-believe I h-h-have en-nough f-f-for n-now. I d-d-don't w-want t-t-to w-wear o-out y-your p-p-pat-tience." Truth was Kiran was growing weary of what he was learning, there was only so much information a person could take after all.
