Well now you've opened a can of worms:
+people who used cotton/cotton blends/polyester in their clothes
+modern tights instead of hose (particularly on men)
+hooded cloaks
+cloaks made of really lightweight materials
+drinking horn straps attached to belts
+tankards attached to belts
+T-tunics
+non-period shoes (C'mon it's not like it's hard or anything)
+people who don't wear wool because they are "allergic". Yes, wool itches, you aren't allergic, true wool allergies are quite rare.
+machine made braid.
+tartan skirts on men
+kilts
+plaids (for the most part)
+thick belts where there is no eveidence (ie Viking)
+corsets that are used to push up the breasts
+large girls wearing corsets
+corsets in general really
+armorial garments wearing worn as everyday wear.
+"peasant" clothing with ragged edges
+"peasants" in jet black, vibrant red, imperial purples.
Okay, as for the whole cotton=bad wool=good thing, I'm have to disagree. I live in Texas; I play in Texas. Okay. It's HOT. Wool is a heat stroke waiting to happen. I wear cotton. Anyway it's as it should have been, not as it was. I'm sure that if they had lived in Texas they'd have gotten the message.

And for some of us, cotton is -extremely- period. It was a luxury fabric, and if we play nobles with access to it, we should be able to use it!

Of course, there are certain weaving and knitting techniques within the fabric that I perhaps would be less likely to use (*cought-shirtmaterialcough*), but, I see no problems with using cotton.

And so very ubiquitous... especially with the younger men. I suppose it must be comfortable.

And cheap. My SO wears that when I manage to talk him into going to events. He's not quite okay with the kilt...yet.

Give me time.

If they are worn correctly, they can make most women look wonderful. Otherwise, I'd have to side with him on the bad appearance they can lend any woman.

I don't think Madison is being serious.

I never can tell over the internet.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:50 pm
True. I may even be wrong. I'm assuming she's joking because she used an obscene amount of exclaimation points and misspelled "garb". And we've all seen people who shouldn't wear corsets and the jello-like results. They aren't pretty.
It's just given that, the posts sounds a bit fatuous.

I've seen total seriousness from people writing like that, which is why I never can tell. Bah.

True. I was just giving her the benifit of the doubt.

I would like to clear up the myth that making shoes is easy, I 'm a leatherworker and have a bit of experience, I have attempted various shoe projects, SHOES ARE ******** HARD, thank you, thats it... stare

I have a deep appreciation for anyone that cobbles their own shoes. (and I'll stick with Birkenstocks for the time being until I can afford to get a pair made for me.
