"I don't think that's good parenting from either one of you, and it's unfair to use a three year-old as a mediating factor for a lot of unspoken aggression." he said flatly. "It's not her fault, whatever happened. I don't think she should be used as a tool for revenge and strife for either party."

She set her brush down, crossing her legs in the chair and sitting up straight, "I en't be'n 'round sin'e she was t'o. I am the voi'e on the mob'le tha' she knows is 'Mum'. I'm no' wha' she ne'ds. I canno' be wha' she ne'ds. I ne'er will be tha' perso'. I's a 'ard tru'h an' I go' a li'e wit' tha' for my en'ire li'e. I's my cro's ta ba'e. ." Sighing, resting her hands on her lap, shoulders lax, "Don' ge' me wron', Re'y. I don' use 'er as amunit'on. Ne'er on'e 'ave I pu' 'er aga'nst 'im. Honey smiled softly, there was pride to talking about Sparrow- even if it was small and gentle, "Spar'ow is jus' a baby, she don' know bet'er. 'Er ac'ions a 'er own. A min' wit'out res'on, jus' purpo'e. She'll gro' up an' be wha'e'er she wan's an I'll s'ill lo'e 'er. If she was 'urt or in toub'e she go' 'er go'paren's ta ta'e 'er. "I know because of a marvel I didn't make," Tyler answered her, opening up the map on the laptop screen. "We have very large machines whose job it is to make maps of the entire Earth...I use those maps to find safe coordinates to appear. As for watertight items...they wouldn't be comfortable to wear, sadly." Kyou began to ask about being trapped in ice...he really didn't want to think about it that deeply, but everything she mentioned was surprisingly accurate.

"...and that's why I spend so much time calibrating and double-checking it," he said at last, after her onslaught of worst-case scenarios. "To ensure as much safety as possible in what I do. Thankfully, the one major error I've experienced wasn't entirely harmful. Just disorienting..."

Marilyn looked to him, shaking her head softly. "I would be intimidating even without the weight of Christ behind me," she chuckled. "But...this feels awkward, but thanks for your encouragement."

Sosol refilled the glass of water. "Just get your strength back, okay? I'm sure we'll be able to smooth everything out...just think what the girls at the convent will say. You resisted a demon's temptation for days. Bet they can't top that."

Marilyn blushed lightly. "I...I guess you're right about that..."

Kyou looked at the map in wonder. "How can a machine map the entire Earth? Was this done through man traveling amongst the ancestors? Mr. Remy and Miss Max both told of how man has been amongst the stars. I would not believe the ancestors would allow their secrets to be available for man. But here you have a map. I do not know where or what it is of." Kyou sat back in the chair, having leaned over it to look, "I do not like being disoriented. It is very hard waking up and not knowing where you are or how far you've traveled. Hallucinating is not enjoyable either. How do you test to make sure everything is correct? Can you take many people with you or only one? What is the farthest you have traveled? How do you know what to create'? Do you see the marvels in your mind? Or stumble across them as mushi in the wild?"

"It's of France, apparently," Tyler chuckled, looking up the coordinates. "And yes, it's a team of machines that float in space. They're not quite out in the stars; consider them as very, very high in the sky. I would have to agree, both on disorientation and on hallucination. With this model, I can take up to five including myself. The farthest I've traveled was probably my recent excursion to Lardeyrol."

He paused, the questions suddenly going from technical to personal. "That's probably the hardest question you've asked. Sometimes I see them in my mind...other times I get an idea in my head and see if I can make it work in reality. Even other times people ask me to solve a problem for them."

Kyou listened, head tilting slightly to the side. It was so much to take in. From beginning to end, very high up. France? What was that? A place most certainly according to that map. What a funny word! Kyou tested it out a few times, delighted by the sound of it. Using the fresh word as if a child with a new toy. There were plenty of things Kyou enjoyed learning, new words- casually tested- were always rare flavors. "There is a degree of difficulty to questions? What fun! I had always believed it is you know or do not know."

Kyou smiled, though to be fair Kyou always looked as if smiling. Hovering bandaged palm over where Kyou's heart would be, "Your heart makes them first and shares them with your mind. That is a rare gift to construct and be able to use wisely. The ancestors must smile on your ingenuity. Do you have a favorite marvel? Or is it more like a hen with chicks where you care for them equally? "

"I suppose...a bit closer to the hen analogy. I enjoy all the things I wind up making. There are just some that see more use than others. I don't have as much need for traps as I used to, but JIM and my transportation device are daily staples. I have a pair of gloves I haven't used since I rewired the Inn." Her talk of the ancestors made it clear that those were her spiritual beliefs. He was alright with that...as for what he believed himself, that would be difficult to answer. He had seen a lot, but of varying systems of belief...which just complicated the matters rather than making it clear.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 4:33 pm
Kyou's hands returned to the top of the chair, "Re...wired...? What does that mean? Rewired... is it like repair? The inn does not need those the wood and iron are strong. And the giant woman outside has been building. She is very intimidating. What is a staple? Why did you need traps? What did the gloves do? Rewired.. what a fun word."

"Structurally, the Inn is very strong, and capable of repairs on its own, oddly enough. What rewiring is...well, that copper you liked to chew on is a wire. It directs the flow of electricity...so, in rewiring, I was making the flow of electricity through the Inn easier and more efficient. A staple can be a lot of things...in this context, I mean it's very basic, something that is used every day." He paused for a little...two of those questions were a bit personal. Despite the fact that it had been three months, technically...he had just finished confessing some of his deepest secrets to someone else.

"The gloves allowed my hands and arms to pass through solid surfaces like a ghost...and the traps. Well, before I lived here, I needed them to keep myself and my possessions safe."

PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:00 pm
Sympathy crossed Kyou's expression, but it soon returned to the oft expressed tranquility, "Rarely are sages understood and people seek to use them for ill gains. You were wise to use traps- with your marvels I am certain they were very interesting to behold. The traps I have seen are mostly snares, spiked pits and poison. I am a fool to assume but I am certain your traps were much more marvelous. Though solid surfaces? You mean through trees, walls and people? How would such a marvel work! You are mortal are you not? This marvel- you must have used magic! I have never heard of such a thing. It sounds like something to be very careful with. The copper taste eases my stomach, I do not crave blood with it. Perhaps I need to eat a canary but that is for calcium. I do not know what I would find... copper in. What would I find copper in which would not be harmful?"

Remy shrugged, incredulous. "That's, that's depressing. Why doesn't she live with you?"

Malachai smiled, tail perking hopefully. "Yeah! You ignored an incubus! At full power!"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:43 pm
"...stop lying to me, demon," she gave a weak smile, gulping down another bite of bread. "You are stronger here than you were before."

"And you're still spurning him," Sosol smiled, watching her surprised reaction.

"...! You are a sly one, Isaiah," she shook her head, unable to shake the smile. "I will return home once I have the strength to travel. It seems Tyler is still repairing his pride and joy, or I would ask him."

"Incredibly," Tyler answered Kyou, needing no reminders of his own mortality. He had used magic, in a way...it was one of the few times he blended the two, though with the force of the GMO Labs behind him, new opportunities always popped up. The question of copper came up, and he hummed in thought. "Well, if you really need it, I'm sure we keep enough stock for you to share. If it's just the copper taste...have you tried a penny on the tongue?" He pulled a shiny one from his pocket. "It won't poke you...I'd just recommend giving it a quick wash, first."

"What he said, that's what I meant! You're ignoring me real good." he chuckled kindly. "Hey, hey, can you play checkers?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 6:02 pm
Kyou watched the penny with a hungry look. Kyou had eaten several penny at this point. Penny, another funny word. "You cannot tell me how the gloves work because I would not understand. Or because you are protecting your work. I will happily accept the penny. Perhaps, if you wish, you may want to ask of me?" Kyou's bandaged hand was out eager for the token.

Honey wrinkled her nose, "I be'n on the ro'd fo' a w'ile no'. I en't go' a 'ouse or a be' fo' 'er. P'us wha' the B'ue 'Ell am I gon'a do wit' a ki'? I sin' fo' my bre'd an' but'er, I canno' af'ord anyt'ing she'd nee." She added small sweeps of reddish orange layering messy feathers, "Lo'e is no' enou'h ta rais' a chil'."

"Checkers." She looked at him for a moment...he was sincere, which was oddly disarming. "Yes, I can play...are you wanting to challenge me?"

Sosol rolled his eyes, standing and leaving them for the moment. He knew Malachai wouldn't pull anything, and Marilyn was too weak to. So, he figured, he'd finish his painting.

"A bit of both," Tyler agreed. The phasing gloves had been a weapon of necessity during their ghost-busting days a couple years prior. It was hard to fend off a ghost you couldn't touch. It was afterward they found a practical use. He handed over the penny, smirking. Penny for her thoughts, eh?

"A question for you...? Well, I am curious about these mushi you continuously describe. You claimed to have one dormant with you...do they typically inhabit people in such a manner?"

Azana had retreated upstairs but now came down again, vaguely annoyed. She had read the intel...there was trouble, and once again the Von Helson clan was involved. An underworld brawl with the Kuro Gang, a family of dark elves with long reach and a tarnished history. Stella and the others on the board were seeing this as an opportunity...send in some agents, cripple the network of organized crime, and stop some of the infighting among the prominent Von Helsons. That's a lot of birds to hit with one stone...
