She nodded, " There's no backhanded commentary, no secondary motives... It's something rare, this place. These people, I've been to many an event where-." She paused, right ear flicking towards the kitchen- what was that sound? She bit her lip was it even the right time or year for that insect? She shook her head, must be her imagination, it was far to cold for cicadas.

"Where similar company is much less civil." She nodded towards the cuddle bunch on the couch, "That alone would insight so much gossip and riot. I'm happy to be done with it. Would you mind my asking what it is you do, Marilyn? Someone with poise such as yours must be of genteel birth."

"You flatter me," Marilyn said, holding up her rosary. "I am a member of the clergy, currently...though, I used to be an oracle. I suppose the shift seemed natural, from cloister to cloister and temple to temple." She idly played with her prayer beads, slightly nervous about revealing that to her.

"I thought I was happy in my new environment, that it was where I belonged, but I find my faith shakier than the other nuns...and they seem to be able to tell, too."

She cooed softly at the sight of the beads, her tail ruffling here and there. A nun... previously an oracle? She leaned forward a small bit, before remembering her manners and sitting normally. Oh that explained the glimmer of spirit, she was something special like Sosol. "That is because they are trained from childhood to reject anything unlike themselves. Someone special and unique, as yourself, would make them uncomfortable because they realize how plain they are." Those deep blue eyes of her failed to hide her interest- a story must be behind that. She waved a long nailed hand- exposing the burned palm to the air, tone soft, " Please excuse my curiosity, Marilyn, do not answer if it is too personal- I do not wish to make you uncomfortable. But what is an oracle doing in a temple? What few of those blessed have I seen to flourish in so restraining a setting. You must feel so crushed there."

"Is that so...?" Marilyn asked, somewhat skeptical of Tam's explanation of it. Then again...she did find them a little dull to be around...she shook the thought, the next question being much more interesting than that. "Such a lifestyle is what I've grown accustomed to. I spent much time isolated from others, or restrained as you called it. While it ended up merely a means of control, it was home to me. I had others like myself, I was well cared for, and it was quiet enough for my visions to remain clear and uncluttered. I find the world incredibly noisy, and on a level somewhat frightening with all I see. I had hoped the convent would provide a similar environment without the sinister undertones...but I just feel so alone now."

Sosol hadn't thought of that, standing at the bar and vaguely eavesdropping. She had targeted the others because of Charles...but he and Kristen? She just wanted her family back. She didn't want to be alone in Delphi. Maybe, just maybe, he could make the young firestarter see that.

She listened with interest, tall ears facing her and hands laced neatly a top her lap. What a funny little human she was, pretty and still so young, "Humans are not the kind to flourish in isolation. You tend to crave socialization, no matter how mad or distant you wish to appear. Even if you are locked away in darkness, you cluster together. It's endearing."

A small hum, "You require silence for your visions? I've not heard of a necessity as that. Incense or tokens, some even a specific instrument or intoxicant- but silence. Oh I know so many who would love such a thing from their blessed." She chuckled softly, "A master called Gallow had one who could only focus while surrounded by strawberries and tasting wine. She had such a sense of humor for so dark her predictions."
PostPosted: Sun Nov 11, 2012 7:47 am
"O-oh, I don't require silence," Marilyn shook her head, not wanting to be misunderstood. "It's just...with a sensitive mind, you pick up on things from others around you. Many people are not cognizant of that, and so it gets very noisy within. Very difficult to concentrate...on the other hand, more exposure to others would have allowed me quicker adaptation. Sosol, for instance, has excellent filters in place, even if the occasional thing slips through." She grinned to him momentarily, watching her mug float away.

"Either way, it appears I shall be here at least a short while, so I will find a way to manage."

Her head tilted ever so slightly to the side, the gesture smooth and curious, "Perhaps I do not completely understand. My exposure has been limited as I have no love of gilded cages or holding others. Why not ask Sosol to help you? Or is it a matter of building up the filters on your own through exposure?"

"I have not asked, but I did not originally intend to remain," she answered, watching her mug land in front of her with a light thud. "I suppose it would be a little of both, though...the expertise of another alongside ones own trial and error. While they say great minds think alike, we all remain different."

She took a long sip, looking to Tam. "You mentioned the courtly life...of what nature, may I ask...?"

The smile was slow, "You may." She adjusted only slightly, tail draping over her lap, "I am the Lady of the Bouirgeese Empire. It is the title from my sire and rightfully mine from careful business transactions and careful management. But that isn't what you're asking, is it? I deal with mostly demons of varied paths, I make no deals for souls and sport the good fortune of being the last of my kind."
PostPosted: Sun Nov 11, 2012 8:39 am
"Ah, I sensed as much," Marilyn said, thought she found it odd that Tam was happy to be the last. "It's strange...for all that is generally taught of demons in the church, I find it to be very inaccurate. I've only met one conniving, soul-snatching hellspawn thus far, not counting my ex-lover." She chuckled lightly, even if it wasn't a joke. "The world of business is curious to me, as well. I have never been in it, myself..."

"Religions bland over our kind as one breed. As if we all have one goal and purpose- to pull you into temptation to make you fall from grace. We will devour your soul with abandon if only you show a moment of weakness. Crush you and use you as puppets to our whims," she huffed softly, ears flicking back. "There are more of us involved in the day to day than any church would have their flock believe. We do not all consume souls, we do not all seek the destruction or enslavement of mankind. Most of us are very well organized in the sense we know our place on the ladder."

Tamriel did not care for the joke, tail ruffling here and there. It was a minor offense and she knew the meaning of it, the fur smoothing to its gentle gossamer. Humans were so... frivolous with their comparisons, but what else did they have? "I am not the same kind of demon as that. Malachai and I are not of the same breed, our purposes are completely different. Though on the rung of power he is certainly much higher as his purpose is a necessity compared to my commodity. Huldra are luck demons but it is restricted to our blood and the use of it."

A chance to transition, she offered without pushing, "Hm? Well... if you wish firsthand experience with it. Recent events in my life have left me with an opening- in need of an assistant, if you would. Someone to keep me motivated, organized and on task. To share tea with, spoil with shopping- things of that sort."

"I can imagine being a luck demon would help in the business world, not to discount your intelligence," Marilyn said, trying to let the bristling go. Had it been something she said, because she was sincere. Ah, well. The offer, however, came as a surprise. She blinked, sipping her tea.

"I doubt such a thing would go over well with the convent," she answered after a moment's thought. Starting a career this late? "Not to mention I have never been a career-woman. I fear I'd simply disappoint, even with my predictive capabilities..."

She shook her head, "I take no offense, however I cannot use my blood to benefit myself. I would not be as I am if I could." There was a bitterness to that, her self value having dropped greatly since the event. Ears flicking forward, "I did not offer it because you are an oracle. What you are does not define who you are. Without knowing your focus I see potential, yes, however I do no rely on such things. I've watched too many become obcessed and lose their will to even breathe without confirmation. Far too taxing."

Her smile was gentle, eyes curving to follow suit, "You seem to be the kind of person who weighs their decisions carefully, listing doubts as caution. I like how you carry yourself, your poise and you are very polite. I find it interesting you put yourself down so quickly with doubts, but I am not the pushy sort. I only ask you consider it, not as a career but as an opportunity to explore other avenues."

"Then I shall give it much consideration," Marilyn nodded. A very interesting perspective...she was an Oracle. That was established and emphasized, something to take pride in. But it didn't make her entire identity. She was still Marilyn, not just Sibyl. She was a polite, middle-aged redhead. She loved deeply, and had done drastic things in the name of such. And now, she had a decision...it would be unlikely the church would allow her to fraternize with a demon and remain clergy. So, which was a better route...?

She sipped more tea, blinking at the arrival of food. "O-oh...! Thank you..."

"No problem," Azana answered, serving up plates of sausage and eggs for everyone. She had requested Gren to work on some toast for those who weren't so big on one or the other. Not French toast...normal would be fine, she was sure.

Tyler sat next to a pile of parts, writing a list of what was missing. He had missed his little runs...

She smiled sweetly, "I'm eager to hear what you decide." When Azana arrived with food, she blushed deeply, bowing her head, "Thank you Azana." Tamriel looked over the food as if in awe, this was the kind of human food that got her in trouble. Next to chocolate, eggs were a very close second to a very bad habit. She gave the tiniest of whines, just a a small animal, and sat very tall as if debating whether or not to eat. It didn't provide her with nourishment, didn't make her feel full but the taste of it was dare she think it? Heavenly. Her tail whipped this way and that, as if deciding.

Honey mumbled, tucking between Marius and the couch. Releasing Malachai from her cuddle grip- her sleep singing echoed in the couch.
