The night was peaceful much like most of the nights after that though the closer they got toward Friday the more nervous she became. Sleep was a bit harder but at last the day had come where she would be conducting the concert tonight though she would preform first with a solo. Her music teacher knew she had more talent than everyone else in the class and trusted her with a solo and conducting. Knowing she would be nervous he would speak with her during school hours. The whole day went on dully as usual but just a bit faster than Sofia would have liked. The concert was at 7 but she would be at school practicing with the band so she let Debra have her car keys so she could take Alex home. there he could get dressed and she could go home and get whatever clothes she wanted to wear (if she was going to) and get dressed at their apartment and go to the concert with Alex and his parents.

There was no way that Debra was going to miss Sofia's concert, and so the first thing that she did when she got home was to look in her closet and choose a formal black dress with black ribbons and lace that would be appropriate for the concert. (Actually, the very first thing that she had done was to reassure her grandmother that the Mercedes parked in the driveway was Sofia's car, rather than a stolen car.) All that she needed was the old-fashioned hat with the veil to look like she was going to a funeral. In a way, Debra had been testing Alex to see if he was going to behave himself. If he had any intentions of putting the moves on her, he would have had plenty of time to do so while they were alone in the car or while she had been changing clothes and putting on her usual make-up in Sofia and Alex's apartment. To his credit, Alex had treated her like a kid sister. It had been interesting when the time had come for Debra to meet Alex's parents. While his mother hadn't been able to completely hide her distaste for Debra's clothes, make-up, and jewelry, at least she had been polite. When they arrived at the concert and were on their way to their seats, Debra noticed that Cynthia was there with a young man who had to be her boyfriend. Of course Cynthia had to drag her boyfriend all of the way to Debra so that Debra could meet him. (It seemed that Alex and the boyfriend already knew each other.) Perhaps it was Debra's imagination, but it seemed that Cynthia had come to admire her. Soon enough they were all in their seats and waiting for the concert to begin.

It had been so nerve racking that Sofia was unsure if she could even do this because she was so fearful of messing up. She had gone to the restroom minutes before it was time to start. Taking a deep breath she had to focus on the music and ignore the large audience that would be watching her. She had to remember that these people came to listen to wonderful music and so they would have a great time! Of course she had been asked if she wished to have seats reserved for her parents but there was no need for that. Alex was given a spot at front for handicap purposes but she did reserve seats for Debra and Alex's parents right next to him.

With one final deep breath she made her way back and onto the stage, the curtains still closed. The school auditorium was big and clearly funded by some anonymous donor. There was a couple more minutes left before it started and so she situated herself and in the audience would be able to hear instruments being tuned etc.

Sofia happened to be wearing a black dress as well and she was glad that when the curtains came up the light was rather blinding so she was unable to see the audience and she chose to ignore their presence and simply played her solo, flawlessly. It was always good to get lost in the music and her nerves vanished and just as quick as she started it was over and done with, the hardest part next.

She took her bow as the audience clapped and left the stage, the others taking their seats and flipping to the proper page of their music sheet. The music teacher took that time as they settled in to talk about the music program and how with donations etc. the music program would continue to thrive at this school and how this concert was free because he wanted to give back to those who appreciated music and who have donated. After that he re announced Sofia in letting them no that he would not be the conductor tonight and the music chosen had been the choice of the students etc. Bowing again she turned to face her fellow band mates and they soon began. The first song was a lengthy one but everyone played flawlessly and a couple more songs came after that since the show was about an hour and a half or so long. Another song they wanted to do happened to be a song from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Another song, had been one that the students wished to do because they all enjoyed the movie August Rush and loved the Rhapsody as the end so they preformed it, accompanied by the choir.

As the concert ended they all took their bow as the teacher called out each section and asked for a round of applause for the choir's help and then for her as well. She smiled and bowed again before heading back stage, people filing out of the auditorium some sticking around (mostly friends and family of those in the band) and she made her way over to Alex and the rest though she received compliments as she made her way over to them but she finally reached them.

((OOC: FYI, the link to the solo actually goes to the picture of the dress.))

As soon as the orchestra had finished playing, Debra had begun to clap, whistle, and cheer in a manner that might not be quite appropriate for the concert. Furthermore, she got up to applause, and it didn't seem that she cared if she was the only one. Of course Alex stood as well, and he was followed by his parents. A moment later, Debra pulled a cigarette lighter out of her purse, lit it, and held it up in the air like she was at a rock concert. Perhaps Alex might have done the same, except that he didn't smoke, and so didn't own a lighter. (Smoking doesn't mix well with athletics.) When Sofia joined them, Debra exclaimed, "That was totally awesome! Thanks to you, I might start listening to classical music. My grandmother will thank you for it." Alex then said, "That really was terrific! Seriously!" His parents were nodding in agreement, and his mother stated, "That was very well done, Sofia. One can easily believe that you've been a conductor for years." Alex's parents had noticed the conspicuous absence of Sofia's parents, but by unspoken agreement, they didn't say anything about it because they didn't want to spoil Sofia's moment of glory by bringing up what was certain to be a painful topic. They did talk about it later that night in the privacy of their bedroom, with Alex's mother repeatedly declaring that it was utterly shameful for Sofia's parents to not be there.

The praises were actually nice for once since she never really received them from anyone she knew and cared about. Those were the compliments she appreciated the most. She thanked them and chuckled softly to some of the things they said and replied, "Well I have been practicing ever since I could talk and walk. Truthfully I was afraid I'd mess up but it all went well and I thank you all for your support."

The auditorium was fairly empty now as they all began to head out all heading home. Once at home Sofia could finally replay the concert and brought back some moments where she felt as if she as in a field of flowers alone, waving her arms around as if the world were the instruments as she was conducting nature. It was such a free feeling.

Still in her dress she sat in the kitchen drinking tea, a small smile on her face as she was lost in thought.

((OOC: Oops well it was this song))

Seeing that Sofia was in a happy place, so to speak, Alex didn't want to disturb her, and so he fed Bo and took care of a couple other things that she normally did at this time of the night. Just then the phone rang. Alex answered it and said, "Sofia and Alex's place, Alex speaking." "Good evening, Alex. This is Joan Hancock, Debra's grandmother," the caller replied, "I was wondering if Sofia was available. If so, may I speak with her, please?" "I'll tell her," Alex said in return. Looking in the kitchen, he said to Sofia, "Sorry to bother you, but Debra's grandmother would like to talk to you."

((OOC: FYI, I have an idea for a confrontation between Brandy and Cynthia that Sofia and Debra could witness during lunchtime on Monday.))

The music still ran in her ears and whenever she shut her eyes she could see all the instruments being played at once. Such a wonderful experience. The phone ringing was enough to bring her out of her little world but she was still happy and with a nod she walked over to the phone and answered. "Hello Joan (for Debra's grandmother insisted that Sofia call her Joan), is something wrong? I assure you that I did give permission for Debra to take my care. Though am I assuming the wrong thing?" She chuckled lightly and allowed Debra's grandmother to explain what it is she was calling for.

((Okay biggrin can't wait to see what you got planned ))

"Oh, it's nothing of the kind," Joan quickly assured Sofia. Once it had been established that Debra had been driving Sofia's car, Joan had been more concerned that Debra would wreck the car than for anything else. She then went on to say, "I just wanted to thank you for inviting Debra to your concert. From what Debra has told me about it, I wish that I could have as well." After a brief pause, Joan added, "I must say that Debra has never been so happy since... well... since the accident. I'm sure that she's told you about that by now. What she really needs is a good friend, and right now I can't think of anyone better than you." In all honesty, Debra was still being disrespectful and rude to Joan, but maybe not as much as before, and Joan considered that to be a work in progress. "If there's anything at all that I can do for you, and I do mean anything, just let me know," Joan concluded.

Meanwhile, Alex's parents were having their discussion about Sofia's parents and their apparent lack of interest in their daughter. Eventually Alex's mother declared resolutely, "You know what? The first chance that I get, I'm going to visit her mother and give her a piece of my mind!" "No, you're not," Alex's father replied, "And let me tell you why not. First, she won't listen to you, second, it won't do any good, and third, you'll just be causing trouble for Sofia." Alex's mother was frowning as she was forced to concede the point, and she stated, "Perhaps you're right, for once. Since it won't do any good to talk to her parents, what we can do is show Sofia what real parents are like." Alex's father considered that for a moment and asked, "Aren't we already doing that?" "Yes, and we're going to keep on doing it too," Alex's mother replied.

"I'm glad she enjoyed it and I did hope you could have gone but hopefully if we have another concert soon then I hope you can make it to that one," She smiled and listened to her continue and she had frowned slightly though smiled softly again. It was good to know that Sofia was seen as a good friends. Debra aside from Aeron was her first friend in a long time. It felt nice and the empty feeling that lingered about was slowly fading away though it still lingered strongly with the fact that her parents were so distant from her. Nonetheless there was nothing she could do about that.

"Yes she did inform me about that so it makes me feel that much better that she's feeling happy again. Don't worry i'll be sure to let you know if I need anything but the same goes for you," Chuckling she talked a bit more with her before saying goodnight and hanging up.

The next day Sofia sat in the cafeteria with Debra with Alex and Greg. Though things seemed to be the same, Sofia no longer cared and it seemed that some of the other students began to mind their own business. But there was no ignoring the daggers Helen was sticking into her back.

As they were eating, Debra was surprised when she saw Cynthia. Not that Cynthia's presence in the cafeteria was a surprise. It was the fact that she was wearing a frilly black blouse and long black skirt that were the kind of things that appealed to Debra. On the other hand, Cynthia 's make-up was the same, she wasn't wearing the same kind of jewelry as Debra, and her hair was still the same flaming red color. Even so, Cynthia's choice of clothing probably wasn't a coincidence. When she saw Debra and Sofia, she stopped to say hello, and she told Sofia, "I wanted to tell you this last Friday, but I loved your performance! I wish I was that talented in something." Cynthia might have joined them, but there weren't any empty chairs at that table, and so Cynthia took her food tray and went in search of an empty spot. It so happened that Brandy and the remaining two members of Team Bimbo were approaching from the other direction. At just the last possible moment, Brandy stuck out her foot to trip Cynthia, causing Cynthia to drop her food tray and do a painful face plant in the mess. "Really, Cynthia, you are so clumsy that I have no idea how you managed to become a cheerleader." Brandy snidely remarked before continuing on her way. Cynthia must have been pretty angry because Brandy had embarrassed her in front of her new friends, i.e. Debra and Sofia, and because she now had food all over her clothing. As she stood up and started to brush off the food, she foolishly replied, "Well, you should know that everyone is wondering about how you managed to become captain of the cheerleaders when you're nothing but a talentless, mindless bimbo whose only aspiration in life is to sleep with as many boys as possible before you turn into a dried-up old crone, which will happen in only a couple of years if you keep smoking like you do." Turning on her heels, Brandy stalked back and demanded, "What did you say?" "I said," Cynthia defiantly replied, "That you're nothing but a talentless, mindless bimbo whose only..."

That was as far as Cynthia got before Brandy slammed her fist straight into Cynthia's stomach, causing Cynthia to gasp for breath and collapse to the floor. "That's what I thought you said," Brandy remarked as she turned to leave a second time, but when she spotted Debra and Sofia, she changed course. "Maybe Sofia isn't your lover, but I bet Cynthia is by now. You really should teach her some manners. As if you know any," Brandy commented sarcastically, and then she walked away without saying another word. By then Debra was glaring at Brandy in a way that suggested that she wished that she had her butterfly knife with her. After letting out heavy sigh, Debra stood up, walked over to Cynthia, and asked, "Are you OK?" While nodding her head, Cynthia wheezed, "I... think so... I'm just... winded." After helping Cynthia to her feet, Debra continued, "You know, that was an incredibly stupid thing for you to say." "Tell me about it!" Cynthia said in return. "Don't do it again," Debra ordered. "I won't," Cynthia meekly replied. "And another thing, you don't really need to dress like me," Debra continued. Cynthia looked at her in surprise and insisted, "But I want to! I like the look." "Oh. Well... that's OK, then. Just as long as it's your choice," Debra replied. Changing gears, Debra returned to her seat long enough to get her purse. She used a tissue from her purse to clean off Cynthia's lips and eye lids, and then reached inside her purse for her lipstick, which she expertly applied to Cynthia's lips. Next, she applied some of her favorite eye shadow to Cynthia's eye lids. After that, she held her compact mirror so that Cynthia could see herself. "There. Now you look better," Debra remarked. Cynthia's face lit up with delight, and she exclaimed, "Thank you! I look so... wicked!" Of course she said that in a way that made 'wicked' sound like a good thing. By then a janitor had arrived to clean up the spilled food. After thanking Debra again, Cynthia went to see if the cafeteria workers will be kind enough to replace her lunch. As Debra rejoined Sofia, she asked with a hint of amusement, "Why do I feel glad that Cynthia has a boyfriend?"

It would seem that Debra had asked a question to an empty chair. At some point while everyone else was watching Debra help Cynthia, Sofia had slipped away as she headed to the bathroom. It was one thing to be harassed herself but to watch someone else be a victim was just not okay. With a heavy sigh she walked through the door only to see Brandy and her groupies standing there fixing their make-up and laughing about what Brandy had just done and how Cynthia would be a laughing stock. Right when she tried to turn and leave Helen happened to walk in and block the path of the door. Great.

"Excuse me," Sofia muttered quietly as she waited for Helen to move out of the way in which she would refuse to do so. She could sense the hatred from behind her and from in front of her. Brandy had probably gotten over Alex especially more so that Helen was back. In fact, the minute she arrived many of the girls left Alex alone though the harassment toward Sofia didn't. Just standing there Sofia knew that she wouldn't walk out of this bathroom the exact same way she walked in, whether physically or emotionally.

"Hey Helen! Long time no see huh?" Brandy replied with a smile before looking over at her two followers who nodded and they all seemed to have a mischievous smile grow on their face.

"Yeah. And I'm pretty sure I told you that while I was away you make sure no sluts go near my boyfriend. Why is it that this one here managed to slip past your radar?" Her glare went from Sofia over to Brandy who flinched and stammered on her words trying to explain but Helen wouldn't stand there and hear her stupidity. "Whatever. Now that I'm here I can fix the problem. I rather go the easy way and have you (she was speaking to Sofia) breaking the stupid marriage off. It looks as if you warped him into liking you so I might be unable to convince him quickly. So I figured I'd tackle the problem at its root."

Sofia had not replied as she stood there looking down and the ground trying to come up with some sort of escape though she could sense Brandy and her followers close in on her from behind. She then heard Brandy ask, "What's your plan Helen?" Sofia could just tell that she was grinning from ear to ear.

Before Helen could reply Sofia finally spoke. "Instead of threatening me and acting like children why not have a mature conversation about this. Besides lunch is almost over..." Sofia then moved forward, trying to walk around Helen to get to the door only to be pushed back rather harshly, stumbling back against Brandy and the two girls who pushed her forward. She stumbled but kept her balance and now looked over at Helen who looked pretty angry again though a grin appeared on her face as well.

"Hmmm how about we take her swimming," Helen said with a chuckle as her eyes moved from Sofia to one of the stalls. Catching that motion Sofia tried to get out again but all three (Brandy and team bimbo) grabbed a hold of her preventing her from running out. A hand was clasped over her mouth to muffle her screams though she didn't scream as much as they assumed. Nonetheless they dragged her into the stall while Helen kept watch at the door and simply got the satisfaction of hearing the water of the toilet sloshing around.

Yet again more humiliation and this time it was with more of a disgusting substance. There were high possibilities that she could get some sort of infection because of this but they clearly didn't care.

About five minutes later all four walked out laughing and carrying out some random conversation. The bell had yet to ring since there was at least five to seven minutes of lunch left.

The door of the stall swung open as Sofia stumbled out her head and pretty much from the chest up was drenched in water. The first reaction was to douse herself in cleaner water so she went over to the sink and began to wash her head with water. Obviously she would have to head home early since she wasn't in the condition to head to class. Of course for now she stayed in the bathroom, waiting for everyone to head to class to save herself from more humiliation and she especially didn't want Alex, Debra and Cynthia to see her. She frowned and looked at her glasses (since she took them off) and noticed that the lenses were cracked pretty badly since they had roughly shoved her head in the toilet. Sofia wouldn't even be able to go home by driving....she couldn't see without glasses and the ones she had no were useless. Walking home in this condition would certainly dampen her mood for the day.

Debra had come to the logical conclusion that Sofia had gone to the bathroom. While she thought that it was a bit odd that Sofia didn't return right away, she wasn't overly concerned about it until she was leaving the cafeteria and saw Brandy, Team Bimbo, and that Helen chick leaving the bathroom together, and they seemed to be in a very good mood about something. Feeling very suspicious, she quickly rushed to the bathroom. "Oh s**t!" Debra exclaimed as soon as she saw Sofia. She then went from zero to pissed off in 1.5 seconds. Debra was furious at Brandy, Team Bimbo, and that Helen chick, since they were obviously responsible, but she was also mad at herself because she had spent so much time with Cynthia that she hadn't been there to watch Sophia's back like she should have.

It was a bit of good timing that Debra came in as she could tell that she had gotten angry. Shaking her head she smiled softly, "It's okay don't worry...nothing new honestly. You came in just in time though. I'll have to go home so if you can take Alex home for me. It'll satisfy them more if I stuck around school like this. I'm fine though really." But of course she wasn't, who would be. Her voice had cracked toward the end as she quickly rushed out, putting her car keys into Debra's hand before heading out of the bathroom as she quickly darted toward the office so she could be allowed to leave. The bell had rung by the time she left the school so she was safe from public humiliation.

Meanwhile Helen had decided to skip out on her class as she hung around in the bathroom having fun and what not. She was with Brandy, it was just the two of them catching up since she had been gone for a couple years.

"Things just haven't been the same without you!" Brandy was telling Helen, "I guess that you thought I'd be your #1 rival for Alex, but you don't have to worry about me, now that I'm with Nate." That, of course, was overlooking the fact that Alex was already married to Sofia. She then went on to say, "Anyway, I'd much rather be with Nate than with Alex. Nate really knows how to treat me right!" If Brandy knew what Nate really thought of her, she would understand that he was treating her in the exact same way that she treated others, namely he was using her until he lost interest in her, at which point in time he would toss her aside as easily as last week's garbage.

Helen was rather uninterested with anything Brandy had to say, she didn't really invite her to come to the bathroom and ditch class with her. Helen, much like in the past simply humored Brandy. She was the top b***h after all and everything revolved around her (Helen that is) so she didn't listen to much of what Brandy was off blabbing about. With a heavy sigh she replied, "I never considered you a rival what so ever Brandy, Alex...well you're not his type at all so I wouldn't have to worry about you anyway. He was mine to begin with. We lost contact after I moved but I know he still wants me..he's just too much of a good guy to set things straight so i'll have to run the nerdy b***h off. I just have to push the right buttons to make the pathetic girl fall a part of demand for a divorce. By the end of this year he'll be mine again." Flicking her hair over her shoulder like any conceited girl, she turned and left the bathroom, leaving Brandy there to process what she had said. In other words Helen had told Brandy that she was no where good enough for Alex.
