"Malachai...?" Orrin asked, shaking his hand as he mulled it over. Honesty was the best policy here, he was sure. "Yes. The incubus Malachai has taken up residence here...he has been very well-fed."

"Okay, okay," Azana grumbled under her breath, planting a light kiss on her husband's forehead before heading for the main room. She was still in her pajamas, but at least she remembered slippers and a robe this time. No more running out into the cold without proper attire.

He sighed hotly through his nose. "He was been derelict in his duty in Hell for approaching a year. Do you mean to tell me, sire, that he has simply been feasting?"

He rubbed his forehead a bit, grumbling deep in his throat in Demonic. "That idiot...thank you for your patience."

In Felix's room nearby, Malachai listened carefully at the door, eyes wide. Oh no.

"Not at all," Orrin shook his head calmly, stifling a small yawn. "Rather, I did not want you to worry about his well-being. Actually, he has been studying the modern ways of mankind. He's the first I've seen actually read an encyclopedia from cover to cover."

Azana looked into the main room, blinking awake in surprise. This demon rivaled Shadow in size and plain-old scare factor, and yet...well, he dressed like MacPere's worst nightmares. This was what Bara was aggravated about? "It's too damn early for this...and too cold..." She walked past toward the kitchen, hoping for something warm to wake up with. Then she'd try to be civil.

"He...has?" paused the demon, watching Azana pass into the kitchen. "A heavenly host, and he hasn't been slaughtered? Pray sire, what sort of place is this?"

Malachai was silently elated. Go, Vanilla! You're saving my tail!

"It's known as the Inn of Peace, a place of respite, safety, and fellowship for any and all sorts of residents," Orrin answered. "It's officially recognized as Neutral Ground by a couple mortal commissions, so no fights are allowed on premises."

"No, I'm not going to banish him," Azana muttered into her coffee. "He's a visitor, that's why. Neutral Ground...besides, he's not here to cause us trouble. Hm? Oh, it sounds like he's looking for Malachai. Yeah...I dunno, maybe." She froze after a moment, the glow of Bara's sigil fading. She remained in stunned silence for a moment before picking up her mug of tea and heading back for the two large and powerful (but quite civil) players in the main room.

Bara wants me to keep Mal here...? Since when? And why?!

"I see...does that dictum include carrying out an AWOL worker to bring him back to his post?" she asked, quite serious. "We cannot have such things even heard of happening; it is a poor reflection of our work and position."

He looked to Azana as she returned to the room, nodding slightly, quite polite. "Good morning, madam."

Mal sniffed. Was that Azana? Oh my.

"Oh...?" Orrin tilted his head. "I suppose not, no...but now you have me curious." He nodded to Azana calmly, looking up to the demon. "What does Malachai do in Hell? He doesn't talk about work much...asks a lot of questions, though."

Azana remained quiet, giving a little wave to the demon. She didn't want to interrupt, and perhaps Orrin could easily handle this on his own. Still, he didn't seem anywhere close to action. Perhaps the big picture was finally calm for a while. He did seem almost a barometer for mayhem.

"He is a worker of punishment on the Second level, giving those victims to lust in life their due in spades. He [beeps] [beeps] with a [beeped very beep]." he explained. "He was not scheduled to rove the earth and tempt souls for another century. I presume he has been slacking in his duty to seduce mortals as well?"

The demon grumbled, rubbing a horn. "What could have possessed that moron to have left..."

Azana blinked, wide-eyed and crimson at the disturbing details of Malachai's job description. That certainly explained a lot...including why he didn't discuss it in polite company.

"Such initiative," Orrin grinned kindly. "A whole century early to work...I'm never early." He shifted a little, considering a drink of his own but still in the midst of conversation. "He has been quite seductive, actually. Let's see...I know of five people he's charmed in my presence. That says nothing to what he did out in the milieu."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 23, 2013 8:31 pm
"Initiative?" grumbled the demon, looking up. "Five isn't initiative, five is a leisure rove. He has been slacking, the little rotter, and I shan't allow it longer. He's always been light on wits, but how can he excuse just strolling out of Hell without a second thought?"

Malachai pouted, tail flicking.

"Well, I certainly doubt he's seducing every one of his targets right before my eyes," Orrin retorted calmly with a shrug. "I imagine it'd get embarrassing...and all the times I've been asleep, or elsewhere..."

Azana drowned some of her choice contributions in a lengthy sip of tea. As much as part of her would enjoy dealing with fewer infernal headaches, they had done a lot for Mal, and vice versa. He was a resident now. And even Bara wanted him to stay, even if it did mostly seem to be for damage control.

"...what would it take for Mal to prove he's doing his job?" She finally settled on that question, wanting Hell's Lumbergh out of her inn ASAP.

He turned to Azana. "Proof? Well, first, I'd need to speak to the little blighter and see what he's up to. Even if he has been doing his work, it doesn't explain his dereliction."

He offered a hand. "You may call me 'Bill', madame...your angel is surely cross, and for that, I apologize."

"I'm getting used to it," Azana replied, hesitating to shake his hand for fear of another mental reprimand. She had no idea that her contract would be so bossy after full invocation. She did so after a moment, getting the notion that Bill here would hold his hand out until it got tired. "Azana's my name. I function as the inn's bouncer, not that they have too much need for me."

"That's not true," Orrin said to her. "There's much you've prevented...some of it even below your awareness." He put his attention back on Bill. Even though he was vaguely aware of it, the bureaucracies of Heaven and Hell were fascinating.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 24, 2013 5:24 pm
As opposed to Malachai's warmth, Bill's was as cool, but comfortably so. Clearly, he was doing his best to be hospitable to human needs. "Bouncer?" he blinked. "You do not bounce people often, eh?"

Brimstone? More brimstone? Dressed in a gossamer gown, tail wrapped as a shawl, Tamriel came out of her room and sniffed the air. She donned dark eyeliner and silvery shadow for accent and pop, the small glow to her skin only dimmed by the yellowed lighting above.

Ears flicked back and forward at the middle of the staircase. Ah, another demon. What a lovely tie. She walked to the kitchen, retrieving a bottle of lemon juice and extract before returning. She inclined her head towards the demon, keeper and smiled to Azana before settling on a chair close by. Glancing in the direction of Felix's room. Was someone in trouble?
