"I'm incredibly grateful!" She answered, almost shocked that he would think otherwise, though it faded back to that similar gloom. "I really am...it's just that I can't undo the damage that's already been done. All the things I already made, the lives they may have taken...like it or not, it's partially my fault."

"...I think I want you to do it. Just to see your face when it develops," Orrin said at last with a smirk. "I think you'll laugh even harder than me."

"Close enough." Nirro revved the engine and sent them off into an unsuspecting city.

"I didn't say ungrateful, I said gloomy...you can be grateful and sad, I'm pretty sure." he said, finishing the fish. "But don't worry...they really try to avoid killing. They didn't even kill me, and they are really not okay with demons, or kinda stupid people."

"All right!" Focusing, he blinked and snapped her finger, a Poloroid fluttering out of the nonbeing and into her hand. Handing him to water bottle to dissuade his sides from cramping, her face bloomed into a delighted smile at the sight. "WH-WHAT~?!"

"...I wasn't clear, I'm sorry," Victoria muttered, her gloom still settled across her shoulders. "I know those here are compassionate...I meant what I built. Instruments meant to kill. I loathe them, but yet I now could fashion one from scrap in a matter of minutes." She shook her head. Knowledge was a dangerous thing, she knew. It was knowledge she never wanted, and now, even if the contract was voided, it was still there, and those things were out in the general population. The damage was done.

"I prefer bringing beauty to the world, honestly."

"Consider that my gift to you, lovely Charlotte. Frame it. Maybe show it to him sometime," Orrin smiled, coughing a little. He had nearly choked on a gulp of water with her reaction, even more delighted than he had originally thought.

"Ohhhhh..." he hummed, setting the plate on the floor for Moonbeam to inspect, should she feel so inclined. "Oh...so you're guilty, because a bad man made you make guns and stuff? I've gotta say, that's a lot of responsibility you're putting onto your own back."

Settling into his chair a bit more properly, he laced his arms and laid his chin over them, peering up at her. "It's not like you did it on purpose, right? Like, you did this because you were forced to?"

She grinned, all impish malice. "Oh, believe me, beloved, he'll see it at our next summit. I might just send him a copy around Easter. Perhaps it's silly of me," she giggled, grinning up to Orrin, "But I truly believe he'll find something to love in the world, or at least something that;ll make him this happy."

"It's not quite that simple, but if you boil it down to its most basic elements, that would be the case," Victoria answered calmly. "I was lured into it by legal means, and kept there by legal, if unethical means. Your kind would be relatively familiar with such practices, I'm certain. I feel responsible because I knew what I was making, and what it would do, but I could do little to avert it without ruining my own life in the process. A stronger woman would have likely done so...and I wonder sometimes if I was more willing than I wanted to believe."

Orrin looked at it with a wistful grin. "I honestly hope so. For all his stodgy aggravation...he deserves it, for the job he does." He took the opportunity and gave her a quick spin. "But we mustn't allow him to kill the mood, right? Our other selves are enjoying themselves, I'm sure."

Malachai gave her a very considering look. "Sure we do. But then, we also eat each other if we want to get a better spot in the lunch line. Lady, Victoria, let me ask you something. How guilty did you feel about eating that fish? Breathing the air? Stepping on the grass, picking flowers, using a feather pillow? There's no guilt-free life...and there isn't a day that those who walk the Earth don't keep living at the expense of something else. Even if it's the difference between on-purpose or just having the bad luck to be caught in something, that's just how it is. What you're thinking, though, is that you ought to be blamed for surviving, and that's wasting what you can offer. If you feel bad about people maybe dying, then spend your time making the world a nicer place. Nobody, good or bad, lives forever...but the time they spend can be, and you can't help that happen if you're dead."

"Besides," he added as an afterthought, "he'd probably have just found someone else to do it. You saved their life, now didn't you?"

"He does." Charlotte hummed, giggling at the spin. "In a way, he might be my favourite person, just because he's such a jerk. He's the Gary to my Ash! The Valjean to my Javert~!"

Laughing, she spun him right back. "Now, does my mood look killed to you? I'm certain they are, too...Lottie's making all kinds of happy bug noises, in the back of my mind."

"You are not Javert," Orrin laughed, shaking his head at the mistaken comparison. Law most certainly took that place in the duo. "I was thinking sundaes, since the weather has been improving. I've heard good things about this one all-night diner..."

"...I suppose I did," Victoria nodded. "Thank you, Malachai." She took a moment, concentrating on the knife that she had almost used on him and beginning to shape it. She normally didn't work much with stainless steel, but she had grown quite a bit in John's employ. So many different materials and designs. She wanted to give him something, for his company, for his sage advice...with what she had available, it began to shape into a bracelet as anything non-metal fell away.

"How come? I wanna be Hugh Jackman." he pouted, grinning. "Ice cream! Let's go! They took the moped, but whatever!"

"You're welcome!" he smile,d pleased that she'd seemed to have made a turn-around in mood. Fascinated, he cocked his head and watched her work.

"...Jackman was Valjean," Orrin said after a moment's thought, considering what it'd be like to be dating a handsome gentleman instead of a charming young woman. "So it still fits. Anyway, there are plenty of ways to get places, even without your moped." He left the ballroom, making way for the roof.

"Let me show you one of the ones I put in my secret stash."

Victoria opened her eyes halfway for a moment, looking to Malachai. The metal had begun to form a chain, each link strong and without seam. From certain points, a dewdrop of steel began to coalesce and take shape. A charm bracelet in the making. Not many charms at the moment, since she only was using the knife, but she could make more later. Maybe golden ones.

She followed, smiling curiously. Goku's cloud?

His garnet eyes were wide with marvel, dazzled by the metalbender at work.

On the roof of the Inn, Orrin reached into his pocket with both arms, struggling as he pulled out a large cylinder. As it flopped onto the roof, it rolled out in a literal red carpet.

"Always a classic..."

They were simple charms...a peace sign, a little devil wing, a heart, a cat face. Whatever came to mind, and there was always room for improvement later.

"...do you want a clasp, or should I just snake it on?" She asked slyly. It was very possible to make it impossible to remove without breaking...some couples had begun to enjoy custom fitted wedding bands. Well, the faithful ones, at least.

She grinned, fluffing her hair at the sight. "And me without my cummerbund. Am I Hollywood enough for this thing?"

He smiled a bit, shaking his head. "No, no...a clasp is nice. I've been in enough bonds in my life; even the nice ones can be grating."

"You can also give it as a gift that way," she grinned. She wasn't sure if demons did that kind of thing (notoriously selfish, if mythology was indication), but Malachai didn't really seem terribly normal by demon standards. A building full of strange folk...herself included. She gave it a tidy lobster claw and fastened it to his wrist.

"I'll add to it anytime you wish."

Tyler fumbled for his vibrating phone, swearing under his breath as he knocked it off the nightstand to his cluttered floor. Gingerly sliding himself away from his companion, he gave chase, picking it up just as it stopped ringing. He didn't recognize the number, adding to his reluctance, but then it vibrated again, almost forcing him to drop it from surprise. A voicemail...? He opened the mailbox, listening to the delayed message with impatient disdain that melted into a panicked, single-minded concern.

He hissed a sailor's string of words under his breath as he shoved the phone into his pocket even before pulling the pants attached back on. He wasn't sure he had dressed this quickly since living in the Hideaway. He was already opening the coordinates on his device when he paused momentarily, looking to the blonde with a reluctant frown. He shouldn't worry her, or interrupt her recover, he reasoned. Still, he had made a promise. Keep her informed.

"JIM," he whispered, beckoning the bot over despite his still being in upgrades. "Record message. Schedule playback; interaction with indicated user Zulma."

(I'm gonna do it. I swear it. I'm coming back.)

The sound of normal footsteps sounded from outside, across the simple path that led into the Inn. And from the looks of it, they belonged to an entirely normal individual, jeans, sneakers, a puffy snow jacket. He was short for a guy, a sort of thickness in some of his body suggesting that he was older. But it was hard to discern anything with the giant tribal mask over his face.

Said tribal mask was a sideways oval, one end moving down towards his waist and the other to the sky, an assortment of feathers and various ornaments splaying to the sides. It looked quite authentic; if one were to look at him from afar, with the normal clothes and mask over his face, one would think that he was someone goofing off in a store of tribal masks. But there was no store here. Not so much as a selection of other masks. Just one large, random mask, its long eyes and mouth held in an open cry displayed.

The man didn't say a word. He did stand for a while, though he didn't look in the direction of anyone. Then he would go over to Violet, picking up a chair to do so and placing it down, sitting as if it was entirely the thing to do, sitting right next to a person you'd never met.

"...Heeey."

His voice was thin, the voice of a much ganglier man; most likely hidden under all of the coat. The sudden greeting wasn't directed towards anyone in particular, his head even moving forward as he said it, but his mask did not turn in anyone's direction, not to the girl, not to anyone. It was almost disconcerting, considering he was entirely a stranger, and... was... strange... altogether.

(WOO)

He seemed entirely satisfied, looking over the charms in delight, playing with each one as he turned his wrist, eyes bright. "Wow...you don't even know me, and I got a present! Thanks, lady! What's this for? Is it for spellcasting?"

Malachai wasn't in the habit of giving gifts, or receiving them, at that. Still, his gratitude was shamelessly apparent, up to the sway in his shepherd's-crooked tail.

He turned toward the man who'd entered and sniffed a few times, lips parting a bit to get a fuller scope of scent, and after a moment, licked his lips with a swallow. "Hm."
