Oh yeah...I remember that thing. Hang on, lemme work the man over.

Remy got up, tugged on a pair of jeans, and meandere to Tyler's door with a lazy knock.

Sariel blinked in honest surprise when the young woman seemed shocked and began to stammer. She looked down into her bag to see if something like a spider or other such insect had crawled inside, but there was only her various forms of currency.

Sariel's green eyes returned to the woman as she began to answer, and the answer confused Sariel. Free lodge? Possibly forever? How was this establishment still operating? She had heard of some places like this, but they were usually monasteries, run by ascetic yet altruistic monks.

But the woman said that helping out around the inn could serve as payment, and Sariel smiled. She liked work. If that was what they wanted in return, she was happy to serve.

"Here, then," she said, filching out one of the jewels, "a donation for hospitality. I'm not sure about the currency rates, but where I'm from these are worth about one thousand gold coins of this thickness and diameter," she said, indicating one of the gold coins, which were only about as wide as the tip of her finger, and only a third as thick, "but if stella diamonds are not worth much here, it may make a fine necklace for yourself or a loves one, I can work wire around it if you'd like."

Azana flushed slightly, a little embarrassed at her reaction to such a fortune. She wasn't hurting for cash, but she hadn't seen a display like that since Eli...and a reminder of that sat squarely on her hand, a weight that had taken months to become comfortable. She gingerly cradled the stone in her hand, captivated momentarily by not its value, but simply the beauty of it.

"Thanks," she nodded, contemplating what to do with it before the obvious answer came to her. She knew a jeweler now, one who could work this into a piece worthy of Times Square boutique space. "We have quite a few donors, and the space and the land surrounding is fully paid for. Between that and the regulars providing labor, we just have to keep up with food and utilities." Maybe that explanation would help some...she didn't even bother to mention Adam's fantastic garden or Opal's own contributions.

There was some commotion behind the door. The creak of a chair, a thud of a stubbed toe, a light crash, a couple muttered curses...the door opened to reveal Tyler, lightly disheveled and trying to ignore the pain in his shin. His initially hopeful glimmer faded into a more familiar, comfortable expression as he backed away from the door.

"Hey," he greeted him. "Come in. Sorry about the mess."

"Thanks man." said Remy, sidling in. "Sorry for the panic...how's things? Sorry I'm not who you were hopin' for." he chuckled.

"Ah, good," Sariel said, drawing the bag closed and reattaching it to her belt, "I'm a hunter myself, maybe I can help by bringing in meat? Or is this land's animals protected?"

Sariel had seemingly forgotten about her soup and drink to continue the conversation with the young woman; she was obviously important to the establishment, and the fact that Sariel had not asked for either of their names dawned on her suddenly.

She scoffed at herself and pressed a hand over her eyes in shame. Moving it back to her lap, she set to immediately correct the offense, "I'm very sorry, your name is?"

"It's alright," Tyler shrugged it off. Hope, foolish as it was, sprang eternal. What was it with him and absentee women? "JIM-BO's been a good success so far, and thing around Max are calming down. I sent a message to the Knights that I found the dealer and made him pay."

He cleared off a seat for Remy before taking one himself. "I don't get a lot of visitors...what brings you to my little piece of nowhere?"

Azana blinked for a moment before an embarrassed chuckle popped out of nowhere. She had given the whole spiel, and then some, and names just didn't happen. "I'm Azana," she answered after reining in her laughter. "Shades in the kitchen is Sol, and the handsome man with that long ponytail is Gren. We all work here, to greater or lesser degrees. What about you?"

She had also, apparently, forgotten the question of hunting. To her knowledge, they weren't protected...but then again, she didn't exactly own the place.

Sariel was glad that the woman, who introduced herself as Azana, was in good humor about Sariel's lack of manners. The elf smiled, raising her hand in a gesture she knew as a common greeting, to be shaken, "my name is Sariel Amluglam, and I'm a...," she thought for a moment, "I suppose odd-jobs woman by profession, traveler by nature.

"Oh!" she added quickly, "I also wanted to ask about the policy of weapons here? Will I be allowed to bring them into my room, or do I check them in with someone. I left them by the door," she said, turning to arch her arm over the back of the chair to indicate the bow, and quiver, seemingly forgetting she had a long black sword on her back still, "I didn't see a place to put them," she added finally, apologetically.

Remy tapped his forehead. "You know when you half-remember something and it doesn't stop rattling around in your head and you need to get it out? Some half-baked idea or something? I've got one of your models in here that's been itching at my frontal lobe for like a week now."

"They're permitted so long as you're not an idiot about them."
said Gren, returning with her steak and a smile, "But I doubt we'll have any problems with you."

Sariel was startled by the seemingly severe wording of the statement as the dark-haired innkeeper, Gren, returned with her steak. He was smiling, but she sensed a sort of gravity in his voice, like his warning came from experience. Or perhaps she was ready far too much into it.

"Oh thank you," she said, returning the smiled and accepting her meal, "you're very kind, it smells delicious," having forgotten about her own question about hunting in the area, she moved and set her bowl to the top leftmost side of the plate and the cider on the top rightmost. But she did not begin eating immediately, that would be rude.

"You won't have problems with me," the elf said, "I promise."

"As I said." he chuckled. "Sorry, that must've sounded kind of harsh...we've just had all sorts come through, and some less...tasteful than others, in terms of tossing their weight around. Comes with the open-door policy, I suppose... but hey, your word's as good as I need. Eat up!"

Azana was somewhat relieved that Gren came back to answer the questions. She was more accustomed to dealing with people who broke that one sacred rule, or simply discouraging more unsavory characters to leave. Still, Sariel seemed pretty nice, and outright asking about such rules meant she was probably going to follow them. How is she going to react to the others, I wonder...?

Tyler gave an understanding nod. "Can't get a song out without singing it. Can't get a gadget out without at least trying to build it." He began reaching for his toolkit and some spare ciruitry that was strewn about. "So, what's stuck...? And will I need to go on a parts run?"

"It's like..." he grumbled, scratching his temple to apparently stimulate his mind. "This brain-reader? Thing? Thoughts-transcriber. Like when you copy VHS tapes, only from your mind."

As if to test this curiousity, Malachai ambled down the stairs, Elephant tucked under his arm and humming some unknown tune. "Hello!"

"Afternoon, Mal."

Tyler nodded along, but it slowed with the realization of what he was describing. He set down his things, shaking his head ever so slightly. "Remy...if you recall, that thing gave me a killer headache in more ways than one. Not to mention its other capabilities...dammit, why did you have to remember that one...?" He looked back to Remy's casual expression. Did he really expect to build one?

JIM-BO greeted Malachai with a chirp and a light wave of his dusting arm, getting back to cleaning.

He frowned, shrugging. "I dunno, man. But if that's the thing you're talking about, wouldn't it get stuff outta my head so it's not so full of other people?"

"Hi, Gren! Hi Jimbo!"
he smiled, waving to all. "Hi Azana! And..." he sniffed, cocking his head, "Hi Blueberry!"

"Other--oh..." Tyler grew quiet for a moment, almost forgetting that Remy held more than just his memory somewhere in there. Anyone he drank from...must've been crowded in there.

"We'd have to find out...it's never been tested on a vampiric mind like yours. I wonder what sort of modifications I'd need to--no. No. No, it has too much potential for abuse. Liz made that perfectly clear..."

"Hey," Azana greeted, twitching at Malachai's greeting to the newcomer. Blueberry...she'd have to explain that. "Where are you off to...?"
