That's to use the Wi-Fi to surf the internet on a DS lite.
I use my DS Lite to access my home's wi-fi all the time and don't have a problem with it.

How?

Turn on your game. Go to the menu (where it says new game, continue game, etc.). find the wi-fi options (or something along that extent) button. Have it search for your house's router and connect to it (also enter in a WEP key if prompted).Wait to see if the connection test works and if it does, great! if not, troubleshoot. after you get a test success, you can use that Wi-Fi connection whenever you are in range of it to do the game's wi-fi features.

NOTE: Wi-Fi must be in WEP format, not WPA.

If you can't find the WEP key then you want to look on the bottom of your Router. Next to the Barcode (On mine at least) Should be a string of digets, that's your WEP key. Punch it into your DS and run the connection test. That should sort you out ^_^
