Bo barked and happily wagged his tail while licking Debra's hand. If he could he would be running around and jumping but of course that was impossible. He laid there and rested for now though he watched Debra and Sofia with his curious big eyes. Sofia walked into the kitchen to make some lunch when the phone rang. She reached over and picked up to find out it was Alex since she hadn't looked at the caller ID. When he said he was going to Greg's house to play some games she asked if he was going ot get dropped off home or if he wanted her to pick him up. When he assured her that Greg would drop him off she said, "Okay, see you later then." Though a part of her wanted to express that she loved him she just couldn't bare to utter those words out, especially when Debra was there. She put the phone back and went back to starting on lunch while Debra could sit and start on her homework. Sofia always offered to help her with any questions she had.

Back at school, Helen continued to watch the practice and when it was finally over she went over to Alex and told him what she thought about the practice then told him she'd see him tomorrow and finally left. She had given him a hug and in doing so she slipped something in his pocket in a sneaky way that she knew that Sofia would end up finding that piece of paper.

"See you later," Alex replied before Sofia hung up. Because it was in Greg's nature to tease, Greg couldn't stop himself from remarking, "It seems to me that Sofia's got you on a tight leash." Alex knew that he wouldn't get away with a full denial, and so he shrugged and replied, "Maybe, but holding a leash also puts her on a leash. You know how it is with big dogs. Sometimes the owner pulls the dog around, and sometimes the dog pulls the owner around." Greg smiled at that and remarked, "Whatever you say 'Big Dog'!" The rest of the practice went fairly quickly after that. Alex felt embarrassed and uncomfortable when Helen actually came to him and gave him a hug. After she had left, Greg said, "It looks like someone around here thinks that she still holds your leash." After scowling in Helen's direction, Alex stated, "That is just the beginning of the problem. Well, let's head to your house. Madden awaits!"

As Debra started on her homework, she remarked to Sofia, "By the way, you should know that Brandy has decided to make nice to me, in a 'someday we might be friends' kind of way. Personally, I'd rather make friends with a man-eating grizzly bear before becoming friends with her. I'm pretty sure that she's up to something, but I want to find out just what that something is before I turn her latest harebrained plan into a train wreck."

Sofia made a salad for herself and gave Debra a nice club like sandwich along with setting a cup of koolaid for her to drink. She sat down and chuckled, "Really? That is rather odd and has suspicion written all over it. Do let me know what it is she's up to when you figure it out." She ate a bit of her salad before getting up and went to see if Bo wanted anything to eat or drink. When she finished with him she went back and sat down to enjoy the rest of her salad while working on some homework as well.

Then she remembered something horrid..."Oh um, my mother will be coming some time today. Not sure if you want to be here when that happens. It won't be pretty to be honest. She sounded like Satan on the phone. I'll drop you off if that's okay."

Debra thought about it for a moment and replied, "If you don't mind, I think I'll hide in the attic while your mother is here. You might need some moral support after she leaves, and there's no telling how long Alex will be gone. I promise that I'll be as quiet as a church mouse. I could pray for you, if you like." It had been a couple years since she had bothered to pray about anything, and she really didn't want to start again, but she could make an exception for a friend.

Alex's explanation took longer than expected, but that was because he was talking and playing the football game at the same time. When he was finished, Greg shook his head and stated, "I never would have guessed any of that about Helen if you hadn't have told me. You two had always seemed like such a happy couple. So perfect together." "We were happy at the beginning," Alex replied, "That is to say that we were both happy at the beginning, but as time went on and I learned just how much of a freak show that Helen happens to be, the less happy that I was with our relationship. The two problems were that I didn't know how to convince anyone that we weren't the perfect couple that we seemed to be, and I didn't know how to get out of the relationship. I think that there are no perfect relationships. If you see one that doesn't seem to have any flaws, that's because the flaws are well-hidden. You have no idea how happy I was when Helen had moved away. As a matter of fact, I went out and celebrated by getting drunk. By the way, you didn't hear me say that."

Greg gave him an impish smile and asked, "Didn't hear you say what?" "That's my man!" Alex said in return, and he continued, "Anyway, Sofia has done me a favor in the sense that I have the perfect reason to completely ignore Helen because Sofia and I are married. No one, except maybe Helen, will blame me for being faithful to my wife. Even if I wasn't married to Sofia, though, I'd still find myself another girlfriend. Anyone but Helen. Or Brandy. The problem is that Helen isn't going to be ignored. That wouldn't bother me so much if I wasn't concerned about what Helen might do to Sofia. It would be just like Helen to go Fatal Attraction on us." That wasn't a perfect comparison, but it got Alex's point across. "Good movie," Greg remarked, "It was a shame what Glen Close did to that poor rabbit, though."

"I uh, I appreciate your concern but I'd rather you not hear or witness anything my mother says. It's never pretty, it's just a side of my life I don't like others to witness. I feel bad enough Alex saw what he did at the party but he didn't even see the worse part of her. I'll be fine so you don't have to worry. I'll take you home around five, and I'm sure Alex will be home later after she leaves." Sofia looked at Debra and smiled, giving her a reassuring look before going back to her homework which wasn't a lot. Once she finished her salad she watched the plate and sat back down to finish.

Truth be told Sofia never knew what her mother would do or say. That woman was a mystery and was always hard to read. But no matter what, she was never nice about anything.

"OK, that's fine," Debra replied with a shrug, "You know best." She worked on her homework for a while, and then she suggested, "If you need any moral support after your mother has left, just give me a call. I bet I can almost get away with talking on the phone for half the night. No one ever calls me, and I don't think my grandmother would mind if I actually talked to a friend, especially if the friend is you."

Meanwhile, Alex and Greg were still playing Madden NFL. Greg had some cash, and so he ordered a pizza and a bottle of Mountain Dew from Little Caesars Pizza.

"I'll be sure to do that, and the same goes for you if anything ever happens and you need someone to talk to," She smile and was glad to know that she could actually vent to someone for once that wasn't a butler or maid and even then they hardly really ever cared. After fnishing with homework a bit early she simply watched a bit of television with Debra until the time came to drop her off. She dropped her off and spotted her grandmother standing outside tending to her flowers and so she waved at her then drove back home. While driving she was getting a call from her mother which she informed her that she was on her way.

Back at home she moved Bo into the bedroom for him to rest there because she knew that her mother would say something condescending when seeing the condition Bo was in. The apartment was as spotless as usual though Sofia couldn't help but walk around and make sure everything was straight and with no dust. Keeping the attic shut she heard the door bell and opening it she barely got to say a word when her mother simply walked in and walked into the living room where she sat there and waited.

Shutting the door she sighed and sat on the arm chair beside the couch and looked at her mother who was glancing around with an expressionless face.

"What brings you here?" She asked though she did not receive a quick response like any person would get. Instead they sat in silence for at least ten minutes.

At long last the woman replied, "I've finally figured out how you would formally apologize to your father and I." By that Sofia could guess that she was talking about the incident that happened at the party a couple weeks ago. It was sad to say that Sofia was used to this sort of logic her mother had..but yes, she was used to this. No matter what her parents were never wrong and she was the bad child. They had manipulated her long enough for her to believe from time to time that it was her fault. Much like what happened to Bo. Despite it being and accident she couldn't help but feel fully responsible. Sofia was just glad she had taken Debra home.

With a sigh she asked, "And what am I to do?"

This time it didn't take her long to reply. She stood up and walked over to the door and opened it, waving as if calling someone inside. She then turned and faced Sofia.

"I think it's about time you start to represent the family name properly rather than looking like a sad homeless girl all the time. And so for the remainder of your school year you will wear nothing but designer clothing and look your best. Then I will gladly forgive you." She smirked (because the woman didn't have the ability to smile...so Sofia concluded) and a line of women came in and went straight to her bedroom.

Sofia was honestly too shocked to move and she watched as the women came in carrying mounds of fancy clothing as well as make up kit and they left with Sofia's "old homeless" clothes which would be taken and burned...maybe. Finally standing up she went into the bedroom where Bo laid in the corner on his bed sleeping. She looked into her closet and the smell of brand new clothes was strong. Walking back out she watched as her mother turned to leave.

Sofia felt panicked for some reason and uttered out, "B-but I don't want to go to school wearing those clothes!"

Dead silence. Again they were surrounded with silence except for the sound of her mothers heels clicking on the wooden floor. She had approached Sofia and reached out. Sofia couldn't help but flinch slightly as if preparing for another slap across the face. Instead she felt her hair being tugged slightly. Opening her eyes she looked to see her mother gathering the loose strands of hair and tucking them behind her ear. It caused a shiver to run down her spine, this was rather affectionate, something her mother never did and it honestly freaked her out a bit.

"It's not negotiable, it's either that or you go to the school I tell you to and either go into your fathers business or mine. I know that you don't want that so you have no choice." With another smirk she pinched Sofia's cheek rather hard and then left.

Perhaps she wasn't yelled at or hit...but this was still pretty bad. The worse part was walking into her closet to see what she would have to wear and upon further inspection she spotted the make up kit in her bathroom as well as boxes of contacts. Just as she turned one of the women suddenly walked in, plucked the glasses from her face and took her spar, snapping them while walking out.

"H-hey!" she rushed out of the room only to see the blurred door shut. Squinting she turned to go back into the bathroom and she had no choice but to put the contacts in. Her vision was pretty bad after all. She stood in the room just thinking about how terrible school would become now. Going to school in those clothes and without her glasses...people would all assume she was trying to fit in and trying to get into the cool crowd as if to look more appealing for Alex. Either way the teasing would probably worsen...Sofia could feel it in the pit of her stomach.

"The kick is up and... good!" Alex exulted as he completed a field goal to take a one point lead. Greg received the ensuing kickoff, and after a couple ineffective running plays and an incomplete pass, the game time ran out, and Alex declared, "I win!" "Finally!" Greg replied teasingly. Alex looked at the clock and exclaimed, "Oh crap, is that the time? I gotta go now. Can you give me a ride home?" Greg nodded and said, "No problem." There was still a slice of pizza left, and so Alex ate it as he was walking to Greg's car. When they were about halfway to Alex's apartment, Greg asked, "Will Sofia be pissed off?" Alex thought about it and replied, "Probably not, but she might be." Greg then suggested, "I'll go with you. I should at least say 'hello', and I can take some of the heat if she is pissed."

Greg followed Alex to Alex's apartment and opened the door for Alex. No one was watching, and so Alex didn't mind the favor. "I'm home! Greg is with me!" Alex called out as he entered the apartment. He added the second part just in case Sofia needed a warning. When Alex found Sofia, there seemed to be something different about her, but at the moment he was too busy thinking about his excuse for being gone so long to figure out what that was. "Sorry for not getting home sooner. Greg's PS3 is hooked up to a wide-screen HDTV, and the graphics are unbelievable! They're the closest to reality that I've seen. We were so busy playing the NFL game that we lost track of time," Alex explained. "Actually, it's my fault," Greg stated with a mischievous smile, "I kept on winning, forcing Alex to challenge me over and over again. My bad." "You didn't win all of the time!" Alex protested. "OK, so I won three out of four," Greg conceded. "Not even that many times!" Alex insisted, "Anyway, playing video football with a game pad is different than actually playing football." Just then he finally figured out why Sofia looked different, and he asked, "Hey, what happened to your glasses?"

With Bo asleep, the apartment clean and homework done there was nothing really for her to do. Sofia simply walked into the kitchen and began to look at the things she could use to make some sort of dessert. In the end she made brownies and so when Alex came in with Greg they would get hit with that strong chocolaty smell. "I'm in the kitchen," She let them know before taking out the pieces of browning from the pan and onto a plate. "Feel free to have some," She added while motioning to the plate of brownies. Sofia listened to why he was home late while washing everything she used up. It made her want to laugh a bit but it was also sort of sweet how he was explaining the reason why he was this late. One would think he did what he wanted and came home whenever and didn't let her know everything. It was nice.

"No worries," she replied while drying her hands and throwing it into the trash can. While baking she had put off what had happened earlier so when Alex pointed out what happened to her glasses she remembered.

Sighing heavily she responded by saying, "A demon swooped in and broke them as well as the other ones. She decided to redecorate the closet too." She knew Greg would be very confused but Sofia at some point did tell Alex how Sofia thought of her own mother as a demon and so she knew he'd figure it out. If he was curious enough now or later he'd probably look into the closet and see all the new clothes.

Alex caught on right away and remarked, "In that case, maybe it was a good thing that I was gone this long." Seeing the confusion on Greg's face, he explained, "Sofia's mother was here." "Oh right! The mother-in-law kind of demon! I got it now!" Greg said in return. Alex acknowledged that with a nod and added, "But you really won't understand how difficult a mother-in-law can be until you're actually married. Sofia is the lucky one, though. My mother likes her." Both Alex and Greg wanted to ask why Sofia's mother had broken her glasses, but Greg knew that it wasn't any of his business, and Alex knew that he would find out soon enough. "Well, I should go now," Greg announced. "Thanks again for the ride," Alex stated. "Before I leave, there's something that I want to ask you, Sofia," Greg then said, "You're pretty tight with Debra now, and so maybe you can tell me this. Is she into girls instead of guys?"

"Uhhh, I don't think she's into girls, never really brought up that topic, why do you ask?" Sofia certainly thought it was an odd question, wondering what prompted him to ask. Debra didn't exactly hang out with anyone except her, Alex and Cynthia though Alex was a married man and obviously off limits (to girls who had commonsense and not home wreckers) but Sofia never really saw Debra hanging out with any guys. She still didn't forget her male friend in those pictures and so Sofia wouldn't have ever though that Debra might be into girls. Either way that didn't bother her, Aeron was into guys after all so she had no issues with homosexual what so ever.

"I've been thinking about asking her out on a date," Greg stated, "And it occurred to me that she's so different that she might be into girls instead of guys. No point in asking her out if she's into girls." The first question that came to Alex's mind was 'Why would you want to ask Debra out?'. After all, Debra didn't seem to be Greg's type. But then again, Greg was likely to go out with anyone. There was a chance that Greg would go out with a known lesbian if her girlfriend came along to make a threesome. Instead of asking that question, Alex remarked, "I think I can make a reasonably accurate guess about how Debra would respond to being asked out on a date, but I don't want to embarrass Sofia with that kind of language." Greg seemed to understand what Alex meant, but instead of pursuing the matter, he said, "Well, I should leave you two love birds to do... whatever it is that you two love birds do!" He said good night and went on his way. As soon as Greg had left, Alex said to Sofia, "Alright, I know who broke your glasses. Now explain why she broke them, aside from her being her normal 'loving' self." Naturally enough, he had said 'loving' with as much sarcasm as he could squeeze into a single word.

Sofia was taken by surprise to hear that he wanted to ask her out on a date. The question that popped into her head was a big 'WHY'. Not that there was anything wrong with Debra just that Greg didn't seem like the type of guy that was into girls like Debra. But if he wanted to do so then he could go and do so but she just wasn't sure if Debra would date him. She seemed fairly focused on getting everyone to hate her.

"Hm, well I really can't say if she would accept it or not. She just doesn't seem like she's interesting in dating anyone at all," She shrugged and then waved as Greg left and when he did Alex was quick to try and get to the bottom of what happened.

Sighing she crossed her arms after motioning for him to follow her. As she lead him to the bedroom she replied, "Well apparently my mother thought that she deserved an apology and figured the best way to get one from me that was acceptable was to completely flip the closet upside down." By that she meant her wardrobe. Opening the closet door she stepped aside for him to have a look for himself. Most of his clothes were shoved to the side to make room enough for rows of shoes, all either flats, high heels, ankle boots...the list went on. There was only one pair of sneakers however.

"She had a bunch of people come in and take all my clothes and replaced them with...all of that," She sighed and sat on the bed before plopping down, her legs dangling. My glasses weren't to her liking either and so she took those and left a box of contacts. I'm at a complete lost at the moment. I know that if I go buy other clothes and wear that she'll some how catch wind of it and make things worse and this is pretty bad so I don't want to know what ever worse will be like..." Sofia sighed again and stared at the ceiling annoyed yet slightly amused as to how this was a form of punishment. Sofia didn't mind dressing nicely, but over the years of neglect she grew to have a very bad self esteem She wasn't exactly comfortable with own skin. No one really gave her a reason to love herself after all.
