Alex wasn't that surprised by the amount of clothing that was now in the closet. It was something of a stereotype for a woman to have a lot of clothing, although Sofia wasn't the kind of person who fit into stereotypes. The large number of shoes was the thing that had surprised him. He hadn't seen so many shoes in one place outside of a Payless store. In an attempt to be humorous, he asked, "Say, did one of those women happen to be Imelda Marcos?" After a brief pause, he conceded, "OK, that was a bad joke. So... you now have a closet full of new clothes. That's not so bad, since the new clothes will help you look good." Belatedly realizing that he had probably said the wrong thing, he quickly added, "Not that you didn't look good before. This is a... fancier kind of good, that's all."

"Well think about it Alex. Who except you, Debra, Aeron and maybe Greg have seen me look anything except how I usually look? No one." Sitting up she sighed and rubbed her eyes a bit since the contacts were a bit irritating. "It's not exactly like I'll be accepted the moment they see the 'ugly duckling' now a swan. Society doesn't work that way now a days, at least not around our school. If anything the ones that will harass me the most will be the males rather than females despite everyone knowing we're married. They all probably think we avoid one another. We haven't exactly walked around showing affection etc." Standing up she shrugged and shut the closet door not wanting to look at all of that.

"Well... maybe it's time for us to change public opinion in that regard," Alex suggested, "I'm not suggesting that we should start smooching in public or walk around like we are attached at the hip, but we could hug and kiss on occasion. Nothing wrong with that. I don't know if you are aware of this, but even after years of marriage, my father always gives my mother a kiss when he goes someplace or she goes someplace." Alex wouldn't mind the occasional kiss from Sofia, especially if it was done in front of Helen. He went on to say, "If any guy bothers you, just tell me and I'll take care of him." Alex didn't specify how he intended to do that because he wasn't sure about that himself. He got another idea and said, "I have a suggestion about the clothes. Your mother will probably check up on you, and so this is what you should do. Wear that stuff for a month straight, and then very gradually go back to what you normally wear. Maybe after a month, your mother will have forgotten all about it."

Thinking about it for a moment she gave a slight nod, "Yeah I suppose you're right. If anything she might forget two weeks from now. Her attention span on me in particular isn't too long. Maybe I'll donate all those new clothes to a nice charity afterwards when I know it's nice and safe." With another nod it was more of her telling herself that she would do that and then she plopped back down on the bed this time laying on her stomach and her face pressed against the mattress. She didn't bring up anything else Alex said because the very thought of doing so was embarrassing and would make her blush. When it came to harassment from any guys she would tell Alex but in a more discreet manner. Though she had come to terms with her feelings toward him she was unsure how to even display such a feeling. For any child who grew up with little love shown, well one could imagine the difficulty in it, not to mention that Sofia was never in any relationship prior to all of this.

Alex nodded in agreement and said, "That's a good idea. Not only will you be helping others by donating the clothes to Goodwill or The Salvation Army, your mother will never think to look there for the clothes, and so you'll be safe." After a pause he continued, "It's just occurred to me that Helen is going to think that you're wearing all of that fancy stuff to keep her from stealing me from you. Nothing that we really can do about that. Take it from me, once Helen gets an idea in her head, it's nearly impossible to get it out again. What she doesn't realize is that even if you dressed in nothing but potato sacks, she still won't be able to steal me from you. Besides, you'd make potato sacks look good." Alex was hoping that his compliment would please Sofia, or at least make her laugh.

Alex did succeed in making her laugh when he said she would make a potato sack look good. She sort of pictured it in her head and she couldn't help but chuckle and at last rolled onto her back again. Though she was still shy she felt a lot more comfortable around Alex now. She didn't want to talk about this anymore so she changed the subject. "I was going to ask you if your mom could watch Bo while we're in school. I don't want him to be alone and he can't do anything for a while. If not I guess I can ask Debra if her grandmother could watch him." She laid there and tilted her head a bit so she could see him.

"Oh s**t!" Alex exclaimed unexpectedly, and then he sheepishly informed Sofia, "You've just reminded me that I promised my mother that I'd call to tell her how Bo is doing. I'll call her now." He made his way to the phone and dialed the number for his parents' home. As soon as his mother answered the phone, she scolded, "It's about time, Alexander Tiberius King! I've been waiting all day for your call!" Alex knew very well that there was only one reason for why his mother used his middle name. "I'm sorry, Mom, but I've been busy all day. School, and football practice, and all that," Alex replied. Of course he wasn't going to tell her about playing Madden NFL with Greg. Instead of waiting for his mother to ask, Alex continued, "Bo is doing well. The injuries looked worse than they actually were. As a matter of fact, I was calling to ask if you could take care of Bo during the day while Sofia and I are in school." There was only a brief pause before his mother replied, "Well of course I can! I'll be happy to! No need for you to ask. You and Sofia should know that Bo is just as welcome as the two of you are. Just call to let me know when you are bringing him over." Alex had been reasonably certain that his mother would agree, but it was still polite to ask, in spite of what his mother had said. "Thanks, Mom. We really appreciate it," Alex said. "It's no trouble at all. Be sure to give Sofia my love," his mother said in return. Alex wished her a good night and hung up. "Mom says that she'll be happy to take care of Bo," he reported to Sofia, "And she says to just let her know when we are bringing Bo to her in the morning. Oh, and she sends you her love." Alex smiled in amusement as it occurred to him that at that very moment, his mother was probably ordering his father to go to the store in order to buy some dog food, dog treats, and maybe a chew toy. That smile widened as he imagined his mother pampering Bo like the dog was another grandchild. That's just what his mother was likely to do.

"Great, I'm Bo sure will have a good time since he likes going to new places even more knowing it's someone he knows that'll be taking care of him," She smiled and sat up as she looked over to see Bo sleeping on his bed at the corner of the room. She had given him the medicine he needed so that he could sleep at night without being woken up by pain. She smiled slightly and looked over at Alex, "Well now you and Bo are twins." She chuckled and stretched a bit before looking over at him. She had a question swimming about in her head for a while and now seemed like a time to ask it.

"Can I ask you a question?" Before he could reply she went on to ask, "It might sound silly, but what is it like to have nice parents?" Sofia essentially grew up with everything in the world but without the two most important things a person needed. She really was curious what it was like to have two people raise and love you like parents should.

Alex had to think for a few moments before he could answer that question. It was easy for him to think that all parents were just like his parents, even though academically he knew that wasn't true. "Well... ah..." he started to say, "It feels good to know that if I have a problem or a question, I can go to my parents and they'll help in any way that they can. I must admit that I haven't always appreciated the things that they do for me, but I suppose that could be said about almost everyone. I guess that the important thing is that they know when to say 'no'. By that I mean they are always concerned about me and want what's best for me, and sometimes that means that they need to tell me that I can't have something I want because it's not something that's good for me. There are also the times when they say 'no' in order to teach me to do things on my own. Self reliance and all that. Does that make any sense?"

"It makes sense! I think..." She shrugged a reached back to scratch her shoulder blade but cringed slightly. Ever since last night when she had fallen into the trench as well, her arm hurt whenever she lifted it up. It wasn't like she dislocated her shoulder or anything around those lines, it was probably just sore and there was a possibility that there was a big nasty bruise on her shoulder. There was only one way to find out. Sofia moved her shirt and glanced down toward her shoulder to see that she did in fact have a fairly large and dark bruise. The fact that her skin was so fair meant that the bruise looked even worse then what it normally would have with a person with a slightly darker skin tone.

"Well...it looks worse than it feels," She muttered to herself before sighing and standing up off the bed. Looking over at Alex she asked as she usually did at this time. "Are you going to take a shower? If so let me know if you need some help."

As could be expected, Sofia's actions drew Alex's attention to her bruise, and after looking at it, he remarked, "I've gotten bruises like that before. Does it still hurt? If it does, you should think about getting your shoulder checked out, just in case."

"It only hurts when I try reaching behind me but other than that it doesn't hurt. I'm sure I'm fine," She replied while walking into the bathroom to take out the contacts and to brush her teeth. If he wasn't planning to shower then she would take it. Usually she would have been done with her shower by now but she was too busy in the kitchen venting out her frustration by making baked goods.

Alex followed Sofia to the bathroom, and he said to her, "If you want to shower first, go ahead." He had made that offer partly as a courtesy, but also because he had just remembered the brownies that Sofia had made. Alex always brushed his teeth right after he showered, and so if he ate a brownie after he had showered, he would have to brush his teeth again.

"Oh okay," She nodded and waited for him to leave the bathroom and when he did she turned the shower on and then began to remove her clothes. She didn't really notice that the door was still slightly open, but nonetheless he was probably in the kitchen already. Sofia grabbed her towel and placed it off to the side before stepping into the shower and enjoyed the cool water. It felt like it was a long day.

Once Alex was in the kitchen, he helped himself to not one, but two brownies. He was certain that Sofia wouldn't mind. After all, there was just the two of them, and it seemed to be unlikely that Sofia was going to eat a lot of them. Having satisfied his sweet tooth, Alex went back to the bathroom to wait for his turn in the shower. Naturally enough he had noticed that the door was open slightly. That raised the temptation to peek inside the bathroom while Sofia was in there. In fact, Alex was very tempted, but in the end, he convinced himself that things were going too well for him to mess up like that. With his luck, Sofia was bound to notice if he did peek, and that will lead to nothing but trouble. Instead of doing that, he patiently listened to the sound of running water in the shower so that he would know when she was finished in the shower. He would then give her some time to dress before he knocked on the door. In this case, timing was everything.
