It was pretty clear that Sofia was self-conscious about the way that she was dressed, and Alex could understand why, more or less. Even so, he felt that the best thing that they could do at the moment was act like everything was the same as before. It seemed that the more you went out of your way to hide something, the more likely it was that other people will notice. Besides, the other students were going to talk about the way that Sofia was dressed now whether or not she was open about it, and so she might as well act like this was the norm, since it was from now on. By the time that Alex, Sofia, and Debra had reached their psychology class, Alex was wondering how long it will take for the entire student body to hear about Sofia's new clothes.

Thanks to the fact that everyone was so used to Sofia wearing glasses, one of the other 'couples' in the class fell into a minor disagreement. The 'husband' got the idea that Sofia was trying to go about the day without any kind of corrective lenses and was watching Sofia to see if she was going to trip over anything, while the 'wife' correctly surmised that Sofia was wearing contacts. The easy thing was for one of them to ask Sofia, but they never talked to her anyway and didn't see the need to start now. Shortly after the class had begun, one of the school councilors walked into the classroom with a young man close behind. He was dressed in a way that a foreign tourist might think of as 'classic American fashion'. In other words, he was dressed like a tourist. The school councilor said to the teacher, "This is Pierre d'Artagnan, a foreign exchange student from France. He would have been here at the start of the school year, but there had been some troubles with his passport. I've taken the liberty of explaining your pretend marriage social experiment to him, and I've mentioned that you do have an 'unmarried' female student." "S**t!" Debra whispered to herself, and she gradually sank in her seat, as if she was trying to hide. "Thank you. That saves me a little time," the teacher replied. After the school councilor had left, the teacher called out, "Debra, will you come to the front of the class please?" "S**t!" Debra repeated, although a little louder this time.
Since she had no choice, Debra walked to the front of the class and held out her hand to Pierre, but only because she was expected to. "This is Debra," the teacher said by way of introductions, "And this is..." "Pierre d'Artagnan, at your service, ma chérie," Pierre interrupted. He bent and gave Debra a gentlemanly kiss on her hand, and then he went on to say, "Like zee Three Musketeers, no?" "No. I mean yes. I mean... whatever!" Debra replied. "In order to save time and to keep from repeating a certain unexpected event," the teacher went on to say while glancing in Alex and Sofia's direction, "We'll skip the formal wedding ceremony. Pierre and Debra, I now pronounce you husband and wife." "May I kiss zee bride?" Pierre promptly asked with a suggestive grin. "I advise against that because I don't want to become a widow and go to jail in the same day, if you get my meaning!" Debra replied threateningly. "No, I do not, but it is but a little thing," Pierre said in return.
"Ah, ma chérie" Pierre said with a sigh as he took her hand in both of his, and while he caressed her hand, he babbled on in French for a few moments. By now Debra was so embarrassed by his actions that the blush on her cheeks could easily be seen beneath her ghostly white make-up. Finally she snapped at him, "English, dammit! You're in America! Speak... in... English!" "Forgive me, ma chérie, but your rare and delicate beauty has prompted me to speak poetry," Pierre said in return. For a moment, Debra stared at him in surprise. What did he mean by 'rare and delicate beauty'? She responded by waving her free hand about two inches in front of Pierre's face. "Again, ma chérie, I do not understand your meaning," Pierre stated in confusion. "I'm just checking your eye sight," Debra informed him. "Alright, that's enough. Both of you go and sit down. Next to each other!" the teacher ordered. "Oui, Monsieur," Pierre said, and he went to sit next to where Debra had been sitting. Obviously he had noticed her location before she had come to the front of the class. "Wait! What about my 'unbiased observer' assignment?" Debra asked the teacher. "You can still do that. Just don't include your own experiences. Oh, and your own experiences will be in a separate report, like the other 'couples'." the teacher replied. "Great!" Debra mumbled sarcastically as she returned to her seat.

Pierre's face promptly lit up with joy, and he replied to Sofia, "Le plaisir est pour moi, Sofia. C'est toujours un plaisir de rencontrer quelqu'un dans ce pays qui peuvent parler français, et vous parlez bien. Avez-vous été en France?" According to Pierre, it stood to reason that someone who spoke French well had either visited France or was from France. Debra chose to not object to him speaking in French again, partly because he was talking with Sofia, whom Debra trusted, and partly because she hadn't fully accepted him as her pretend husband yet. If he had been speaking to some other girl, though, Debra might wonder if he was coming on to that girl, which raised the question of how was Debra supposed to tell if he was coming on to another girl while speaking French? The obvious answer was for her to learn French, which wasn't that practical for the situation. Since she now had to prepare a report on her new pretend marriage, she opened her notebook and wrote down that differences in language could be a problem in an international marriage.
((OOC: To save time, Pierre says, "The pleasure is all mine, Sofia. It’s always a delight to meet someone in this country who can speak French, and you speak it well. Have you been to France?"))

"I am from Calais," Pierre replied in English, "It is one of zee northern-most cities in France, and on the coast of zee English Channel. On a clear day, one can look across zee Channel and see zee white cliffs of Dover." He then looked at Debra and added, "Perhaps one day you might learn to speak some French too, no? Would you like that, my little... how shall I say it... death rose?" While another person might have been offended by the strange attempt at a compliment, Debra was actually impressed because 'death rose' did seem to fit with her Goth look, and it did make her sound dangerous. Maybe this guy wasn't so bad after all. Ignoring the questions about learning French, Debra replied, "You may call me 'death rose'." "Ah bien. I was not of complete certainty that zee correct word is 'death' or 'dead'." Pierre said in return. Debra nodded and stated, "'Death rose' works for me."
