Alex groaned and rolled over. She hated feral wolves. She went upstairs and saw her blood. she touched the couch and it was cleaned. She went to her room and changed into her fighting clothes. She stocked her self with her best staff and sword. She ran out and let the winds carry her

Washing the dishes from the previous night and setting them aside to dry, Gren thought over his conversations. Stella wasn't good at making friends, it seemed like, and he could happily provide, but...she was clearly a little too hung up on business. Understandable, for having had to kill her father and take over immediately, as well as being new at the task...this was a vulnerable time.

Stella remained at the Inn, enjoying the small escape from her stressful new life. Unfortunately, it also gave her a lot of time to think, and that day replayed itself over and over in her head. The trap she set, the duel with her cousin...

The worst part, probably more so than anything including her father's violent end, was the look in his eyes as she stopped him. It had been the first time in her life she had defied him, that cool and collected man she idolized, and he was suddenly full of fierce rage, ready to wipe her from existence with a stolen weapon.

She was his pride and joy, the poster child of his organization...and one spell pushed him to try and eliminate her. If all that were true, and it was, how much did she really matter to him? All those years of study and improvement and superiority...what was it all for if that pride was so easily broken?

If Azana had been a second later... she thought to herself, standing up to head downstairs and hopefully find some distraction from the terrible thoughts pulling at the edges of her mind.

"Ah... Stella~" MacPere cooed as he glanced from his position, stationed at his favoured table, sifting through paperwork and signing at certain points. "I see that we are looking wonderful as ever... Would you like me to fetch you something to drink?"

As if on cue, a warm and familiar voice shook her out of those gloomy thoughts, and she looked over to find MacPere looking at a stack of papers on the table.

"Oh! No, you look busy...I can get it myself," she said with a soft smile, walking over toward the bar. "Actually...I should be asking you the same question. Something to help the work go by easier...?" Her hair remained down, as they had previously suggested, and while it took some getting used to, she couldn't help but notice she was getting fewer headaches...

Cheer up, Stella...doom and gloom isn't like you, she reminded herself, pulling out a glass from the shelf. "Do you usually work here at the Inn...? I would find it kind of distracting..."

"Oh... Thank you. I'll take some port, please..." At the posed question, he placed down his pen and rest his chin in one hand, looking to the woman. "No, I usually work in my office... But the atmosphere here is nicer, even if I lack the facilities I need. It isn't a matter anyway, I am almost done..."

Stella gave a nod, searching through the bottles as he answered her question. She had to agree, the atmosphere was pleasant here...the more time she spent here, the more she understood why Azana was so adamant about making this place Neutral Ground.

"Ah! Found it!" She said at last, pulling out the bottle. "They keep this well-hidden...must be special." She poured a glass of the drink before getting herself a bottle of water, and careful not to spill any, she walked over to the table, placing the tumbler a safe distance from the papers. "You're selling this off, aren't you...? The business, I mean...seems just as much work as continuing to run it, from what I can see..." She sat down across from him, opening the bottle of water and pouring herself a glass carefully.

"The end result is a bit less troublesome, though..."

"Yes... There are so many sectors and departments to my business, I'm having to sort them separately and give off my estimates. In total, however, I'm looking at around 50 billion... Added to my net worth, I guess I will be set for life. What to do with that time? Well... Live a little, love a little, but I'll dearly miss my employees..." With a shake of the head, MacPere beamed with a laugh and removed his glasses, setting them down and taking up his drink instead.

"Ah... I'm sorry! I tend to ramble when it comes to business, especially as it is the only thing I know... 16 years of your life doing so does that to you... Thank you for this drink." He closed his eyes and took a deep sip, humming and savouring the taste. "Ooh... That is nice..."

Stella listened to MacPere's self-professed ramblings and shook her head at the redhead. "Don't apologize...I could probably ramble just as much about magic and completely lose you in jargon," she replied, smiling at his appreciation of the drink.

"People like talking about what they know and love...and it's always a joy to hear it in others, too," she commented, taking a sip of her own drink. She remembered when she would talk almost ad nauseum about the latest spell she had learned or a theory that had come to her one night...but it was only relatively recently she found the happiness that came from basking in the joys of others.

"...Sixteen years..." She said quietly, a little awestruck. "I don't think I could do something like that for that long..."

"Hah... Magic has always fascinated me, I wouldn't mind if you lost yourself on such a subject. I'm more of a listener than a talker myself..." He moved all of the papers into a pile and set them to one side, allowing them space on the table.

"Mm... I haven't had much of the choice regarding the business... I inherited it from my father and he..." One hand tightening into a fist, eyes flickering stern for a moment. "... Passed on. I may have missed such experiences as university or your first job, but I wouldn't change that... I don't think I would have found this place, otherwise..."

Stella chuckled at the invitation. "I could teach you some basic theory sometime...I doubt details about my chosen focus would be anything but a sleep aid." The amusement faded as he talked about inheriting the business; his entire body language shifted when he talked about it, especially when it came to his own father.

Not sure what kind of reaction she'd get, she placed her hand on his, her eyes soft with understanding. "I...had no idea...I'm sorry..."

Way to bring up a touchy subject, Stella... She admonished herself mentally, though she couldn't help but be curious what had happened. Given her "business", the events surrounding her succession almost made sense...almost.

"I couldn't practice magic! I'd rather sit back and watch, I tend to make things go horribly wrong."

With the warm hand over his own, he relaxed again somewhat, looking to Stella's eyes with a glimmer within his own. "Do not be, he had what was coming to him, hm~?" His other hand left the cool crystal of the tumbler to gently stroke the underside of her chin, finger caressing in slow, caring movements. "If you ever do need help with your business... You know where to find me..." He leaned in somewhat, whispering. "Don't you~?"

Stella was somewhat relieved that she was able to calm him down a bit, but it was somewhat disconcerting that she didn't know whether that statement was directed at his father or hers.

"I suppose..." She replied, trying to fight back her blushing at both his offer and his caress. "W-well...I wouldn't want to interfere with your retirement," she finally responded to the offer, not wanting to seem too eager about the assistance.

"Interfere? Ooh... Don't be silly..." His hand glided from its position to smooth over the jaw before the thumb settled upon her pink lower lip, observing its pout with a pleased hum. "It would be entirely my pleasure..."

She couldn't fight it off any further, and her cheeks turned a shade of pink as her mind struggled to find a response. Come on, Stella...! Words, words...say something!

"You...you should be careful," she replied, obviously a bit nervous or perhaps flustered, "or I may get the wrong idea about your offer..."
