Voice a slight louder than a whisper, he shook his head. "Don't be... Cake?"

Gren shook his head gently. "Wrapped like that, it's not mine to eat..." he said, walking over and placing a warm hand on MacPere's shoulder.

Sosol listened intently to MacPere, and then to the conversation. Years...photographs, not leaving the house...those are all signs of--oh. His grin faded as he watched the pair, for once completely at a loss...one of the things about his incredibly sheltered life was that he never dealt with grief. Some would consider him lucky, but as someone who tried to comfort and help people, it was a severe disability in his opinion.

Azana began to step down the stairs, feeling a heavy weight in the air of the main floor. Wow, it feels like I'm walking into a funeral, she thought to herself, looking at the three men. Maybe I should make myself scarce...

"It isn't as though she can eat it... And... My appetite hasn't appeared so..." He stood and walked to the bar, placing it down upon its counter. "It would be best if it didn't go to waste..."

He walked back to his table and took up the liles, fussing over the petals once more. "Gren... You really don't have to come with me if you do not wish to... Stay... Socalise... Smile..."

Smiling sadly, he replied "Who needs them as much as you do? I saw you through it once before, and I will as much as I'm needed to."

A shy smile, fingers fiddling in his pocket. "I really don't deserve you... And, my hair in previous years..." He slid a photograph from his pocket, holding it out to Gren, face-down. "I'm sorry that it's one of my wedding... It's aall I could find."

He turned to the door with a faint wave to Azana and Sosol, opening it and exiting.

Letting him go ahead for a moment, Gren looked at the picture, the celluloid smiles frozen in time, joy apparent. He smiled sadly; it was something he couldn't provide...a normal relationship, a child, a future...

"Still, that's beautiful..." he said aloud, following out the door.

Azana sat on the stairs, just out of sight of the trio, and stared off into space, feeling the swirl of emotions on the floor below. Gren's solemn but loving comfort, Sosol's twinge of guilt and helplessness...and of course, the old but long from faded pain in Eli's heart. Her eyes closed of their own accord, and she fought to hold back her own tears, memories of her own congruent emotions floating up from the depths of her mind.

Sosol felt Azana's presence and tilted his head, wondering why she hadn't made herself known yet. It was her business, though, and he vanished to the back room to pull out a couple more bottles, noting what was running low...

As the two left, things calmed down emotionally but the memories remained. With a sigh, she pushed herself to her feet, a little shaky but otherwise showing no signs of what had happened. She descended the stairs, noticing Sosol had vanished to the back room, and sat at a table, resting her head on her folded arms.

Sosol emerged a couple minutes later, putting the bottles away before walking over to the resting operative. "...Azana...can I ask you a favor?"
"Mm? Wacha need, 'Sol?" Azana asked, looking up at Sosol from the table.
"You...you have empathy, right...?" He asked, though it was more of a statement than anything else. "...Can you...project emotion...?"
"Theoretically, yes...I've never tried. Why?" Her head lifted from its spot as she quirked an eyebrow.
"Just now...with those two...I couldn't do anything, say anything, to help." Sosol said, mild anguish in his voice. "I...I've never felt grief..."
"...and I have. You want me to call that up, so you know what it's like?" Azana said, her jaw tight. "No. Sosol, grief is serious...incredibly so. You won't know it entirely, even if I show it to you."
"...sorry...forget I asked," Sosol said, ready to walk away when he felt a firm grip on his arm.
"I understand...you want to help. That's alright...but do not wish for grief just to help others through it...there's enough of us already qualified."

Returning for the end of the conversation, Gren looked up, a doleful look to his eyes. "Don't seek out misery, Sol...or else you'll get it in spades."

Removing his coat and scarf with a sigh, he slumped at his barstool. "He's having a smoke outside, told me to go in and warm up. Didn't feel like arguing...what've we got a lot of?"

Sosol looked over, surprised at how quickly they returned. "A lot of...? Oh...that's not a good sign," he said, heading back behind the bar and looking for the fullest bottle.

"I'm assuming it didn't go well," Azana said, resting her head on one hand. She gave a sigh, pushing aside her little trip down memory lane and stretching. "Then again...there isn't much 'well' about a trip to a cemetery..."

Sighing, Gren shook his head. "It was doing as well as it could, for the most part. Then, well...there was unwanted company." He groaned quietly. "And he was having a bad enough day besides...we left early."

Erik stretched his arms, he was ready to take it easy. Vale looked around the room. "Like I've been saying, I'm ready to kick back and take it easy." Vale smirked. "There's not much else we can do, but it is good to be back." She said. Once again, they were in agreement.

Azana smirked, having learned what "unwanted company" was code for. "A-ha...we're not going to have to dig another plot, are we?" She asked, knowing that there was no love lost between any of them and the rather petty widow.

"Azana," Sosol muttered with a shake of his head. He had brought out an almost untouched bottle of rum and set it on the bar. "I hope this is satisfactory...sorry to hear about the difficulty." He dug around and pulled out a few common mixers used with the alcohol of choice and let Gren take his pick.

"Thanks...really, I'm more worried for him, than me." he siad, tapping the top of a bottle of cream soda. "She's made it prefectly clear she doesn't approve, and that's fine, but I don't appreciate being used against him for anything."

"That's understandable," Sosol replied, measuring the balance between soda and rum. "Some people in the GMO still don't approve of my relationship with Azana...or my reinstatement as an operative." He placed the tumbler in front of Gren, starting to put away the other mixers.

Azana stood up and walked over, sitting nearby on one of the barstools. "Unfortunately, it's the best type of manipulation...you are very important to him, which makes you both a great strength and a potential weakness," she said in a very matter-of-fact manner, shooting Sosol a telepathic drink order. "The business world churns out some of the best manipulators...you'll have to tread carefully."
