[Awoken Queen]

As Ari road through the silent forest on Westwind she pulled her locket out once more and popped it open. On the left side was a picture of her younger sister, Lucy. She had this big childish grin that spread for miles and these big green eyes to match. Her hair was white like Ari's but much shorter and usually warn in a pony tail at the top of her head. On the right side was picture of Ari.. Smiling a pretty smile with innocent blue eyes, her white hair long and falling on her shoulders. This picture was taken of her right before she entered the survey corps. She put it in there as a reminder to herself.. A reminder that there was a time when her skin wasn't so dirty and scarred, a time when she smiled and played so freely. It was a reminder to herself that she was at one time an innocent girl and not a women of war.
Her blue eyes darkened and she shut the locket and looked forward again.

"Damn I forgot to ask which way the exit was," Feronia mumbled to herself, looking back and forth down the hallway. She had remembered they went up a flight of stairs so she was probably on the second floor. There was no way she was going to look for a map or even ask for directions. When she found a window, when she saw a man outside petting Alodia. “Not just anyone can get close to her,” Feronia thought. She opened the window and whistled to Alodia. Alodia came over and Feronia jumped onto her back. The man who was petting her horse walked over. He was wearing a white bandana on his head with his normal scout gear. “That’s a beautiful horse you have. Arabians are rare around here. Good skill too, seeing as you jumped out that window onto her without getting her injured,” he said. Feronia was shocked. Not just any person could pet Alodia and identify her breed. “Who are you?” she asked. “My name is Dita. You can call me Ness,” he said to her. “Oh right this was the man Pixis was telling me about. No wonder why Alodia likes him so much,” she thought to herself. “You must be Feronia. You missed my lesson on the expeditionary search formation earlier.” Feronia rolled her eyes. Not more lessons. She had enough of that at training. Ness could see Feronia was getting frustrated. “I need your help at the stables. We can go over the information as we take care of the horses. Can you agree to that?” he asked. “I guess,” she sighed. She got off Alodia and they walked over to the stables with Ness. She had a feeling most of her time would be spent there. “When do we train?” she asked Ness. He looked at her funny as he scratched the scruff on his face. “Well normally new recruits tend to be messengers for relaying important messages between the search squads and the transport squads. However, certain abilities you have, make you an asset. This allows you to work with Siss and I when taking down normal titans. Since I will be training the other recruits during the day, your training will mostly be at night.” Feronia nodded her head, “Ok.” Soon they reached the stables and they started getting out all the equipment to work on the horses.

Rikard sat in front of Alsvin's stall, off in his own world as he fiddled with the goggles hanging around his neck. When Alsvin suddenly grabbed a mouthful of his hair. Rikard shrieked as he tried to pull free from the horse's grasp, tears welling up in his eyes from the pain.
"Hey! That hurt!" Rikard yelled angrily at the horse, but Alsvin just snorted, shaking his head as if disliking the taste. Rikard glared, taking the hint and grabbing a brush.
"Damn horse." He grumbled as he ran it through Alsvin's mane gently.

Ari wasn't sure how long she had been riding when she finally decided to turn and head back. She gave Westwind a quick nudge with her left leg and sent him running. Feeling the wind blow her hair back. It made her feel powerful.She stormed the stalls when she returned,startling Rikard which made Ari laugh slightly.

All the supplies for the horses were in a small office. It was full of mane combs, brushes, hoof picks, harnesses, lead ropes, and many other things. Feronia grabbed a bucket and filled it with supplies. She then went to go get a shovel and wheelbarrow to clean out the stalls. Alodia followed along behind her. “Ive got to go do some things. I’ll be back to check up later. I trust you can handle things on your own,” Ness said as he walked away. Feronia sighed but at least she wasn’t dealing with humans. “Come on Alodia,” Feronia said. When she got to the horses stalls, Feronia noticed a woman with long white hair and blue eyes standing beside her horse. She also noticed the guy who was in her way before was still there. Feronia just turned her head and started working on the first horse’s stall.

As if Ari nearly scaring him half to death wasn't enough, Rikard got all nervous when Feronia walked in shortly after. With Arianna in the barn too, there was no way he could ask the girl with the dark hair her name now, not without risking any chance of it getting back to Soren. Rikard would never hear the end of it, since they teased each other so much.
Rikard set the brush aside and quickly turned to leave, but just then Alvsin leaned in and took a hold of the collar of Rikard's uniform jacket.
"Not again, let go already!" He said, getting all flustered as he yanked himself free.
"Damn horse!" Rikard cussed to himself as he hastily exited the barn, feeling completely embarrassed.

Ari laughed slightly as Rikard left in attempts to save his ego. Westwind reared up again, wanting her attention once more.
"Hey hey. I'm here, I see you." Ari smiled and rubbed his neck before jumping off him and leading him into his stall where she continued to rub his nose. She pulled a treat from her hand with her other hand.
"You're lucky I like you ya know." She said as she held out his favorite snack, sugar cubes.

Once she finished the first stall, Feronia started heading to the next one when she noticed something strange. There was a mare named cloud in a stable bigger than the other horses. The female was on her side and breathing heavy. She was pregnant and the baby was coming….now! As if almost on instinct, Feronia opened the stable and rushed to the mare’s side. This was most likely Cloud’s first birth because she looked rather young. Feronia knew she couldn’t interfere with the natural birthing process unless something was wrong with the mare or the foal. She sat beside cloud petting her head gently. Alodia ran to the bucket Feronia had filled with supplies, picked it up, and brought it to Feronia. “Thank you,” she said as she patted her horse’s snout. Feronia pulled out a towel. This was going to be messy. Feronia knew how to handle it though. She was there for Alodia’s birth as well. Cloud breathed deeply as her body pushed and her muscles contracted. Slowly, Feronia could start seeing the little horse’s head covered in embryotic sack, but something wasn’t right. Cloud moved around trying to position her body so the foal could come out, but it wasn’t. Feronia kneeled behind Cloud in the mess. She didn’t care at this moment. She wanted that baby and its mother safe. Feronia wrapped her hand around the foal’s torso gently and started pulling. A few moments later, the baby broke free from its mother’s womb. Softly, Feronia took off the white sack from the small baby horse. She noticed he had a white mark on his nose that looked like a lightning bolt. Cloud got up and walked slowly over to her newborn foal and licked him clean. “Well Cloud,” she said to the horse as she put her hands on her sides still kneeling, “What shall we name him.” Cloud striked the ground three times. “Hmmm…how about bolt?” Cloud shook her head. “What about lightning?” Again cloud shook her head. “What about Striker?” Cloud nodded her head. “Ok striker it is than,” Feronia smiled at Cloud. Then she looked down at her clothes. She was covered in slime and hay. She grabbed the towel Alodia gave her and cleaned herself off best she could. She looked over at the white haired girl who was watching it all. “Can you go get me some medical scissors and something to stitch Cloud up with? I have to make sure the umbilical cord doesn’t continue to hang and get infected,” Feronia said to her.

As Soren made his way towards the stables, he passed Rikard leaving in a hurry. Soren was curious as to why, but decided not to say anything. When he entered the barn he stopped in his tracks as he noticed Ari and another girl were there too.
Soren heard Cloud nicker softly to her foal, and he realized the mare that was due any day had finally given birth. He then turned and grabbed a clipboard hanging off to the side and walked over to the stall Cloud was in.
He smiled sweetly at the newborn colt and turned the small stack of papers on the clipboard to a specific page, taking a hold of the pen attached to it.
Erik's squad frequently helped manage the breeding program with Ness, keeping track of the horses and all their specs.

Ari watched Soren and the new girl, she had handled the situation very well and it was always a beautiful sight to see a new foal arrive. Westwind reared up, nickering with his own curiosity, when he figured it wasn't getting Ari's attention he stamped his hooves and nipped her hair like a child. Ari turned rested a hand to his nose.
"It's none of your business kid." She spoke sternly, she new he understood. He nuzzled her hand and quieted down, Ari looked back to the other two.

“Guess I’ll have to get it myself,” feronia hopped out of the stall still covered in gook. She took notice of this new guy that had walked in but didn’t care much for him. However, she did notice his connection with Cloud. She went to the office where the supplies were, grabbed a needle, some stitching thread, a clamp, and a pair of sterilized scissors. She also took off her scout jacket and top that was covered in filth. Luckily she had put on a white tank top earlier that day. She wrapped her jacket around her waist and put her formal shirt in her back pocket. Then she headed back out to the stable where Cloud and Striker were now tromping around happily. Striker stood up quickly for being a newborn colt. Feronia could see the love between mother and son. She went back in, took care of Cloud’s umbilical cord, and went back to work. She desperately wanted to take a shower, but she still hadn’t finished cleaning the other horse’s stables.

Soren glanced shyly over his shoulder at Ari, but then just continued to jot stuff down on the clipboard. It was amusing how Arianna chastised her horse like a child. He had only ever known Rikard or Erik to treat their horses as if they were their kids. Erik being the most nurturing of course.
And the new girl's horse was particularly unnerving, it was like they could read each other's minds.
"Does he have a name already?" Soren asked Feronia, holding the pen still in his big hand as he waited to know. Standing next to the foal, he probably looked like he could pick up the newborn horse and cradle it in his arms.

Ari smiled slightly watched the new foal wobble and find his legs, it was always amusing to watch. She remembered when Westwind was born and learning to walk. She stepped forward and joined at Sorens side.
"You handled the beautifully Feronia." She said, smiling slightly.

Feronia continued to do her job as she spoke to the two people, “The foal’s name is striker.” She said. When the girl with white hair complimented her, Feronia replied, “Yeah well somebody had to do it. Seeing as I had experience and you were busy with your horse, I jumped in.” When Feronia had cleaned out all of the dirty straw from each of the stalls, she brought it over to a compost pile. She got fresh straw and placed new piles in the stables. She checked to make sure each horse had clean water and clean food. As she groomed the horses that hadn’t been groomed yet by their riders, she thought back to earlier when the kid with red hair was staring at her. “Why would he even stare at me?” she thought to herself, “Its probably cuz of this scar on my face.” Soon she had finished all of her chores. She put Alodia in her stall for the night and went to her room to shower and change before dinner.

Soren wrote down the foal's name and then made his rounds inspecting each of the stalls. At this rate they would be out of a job. Soren gave a nod of approval at Feronia's hard work and then walked over to where he got the clipboard and hung it back up.
"Shall we make our way to the mess hall?" He invited Ari as he stood by the doorway, still tense but at least he was getting better at talking to her.
