Hmm...I'll have to think about anime, but I know some good manga right off the top of my head.
I really like brutal/horror like kind of series. Not really HORROR like what comes to a lot of peoples heads, but series where characters and people die off on a fairly regular basis, with some really twisted twists. twisted
Umm....here's a quick list, and I'm pretty sure all of these can be found on onemanga.com
Bakuman: Totally nonviolent manga, because its realistic. And yet, it's strangely addictive. It's about these two ninth graders who decide to become mangakas (people who can make a living off of manga) and have the goal of making an anime by the time they finish school.
The World God Only Knows: This is probably the best romance/comedy manga I've read. It's kinda hard to explain, but basically the main character is the self-proclaimed "Capturing God" over the net for his legendary skills in capturing the hearts of women. After spirits from hell escape and hide themselves within women, a useless shinigami girl comes to this "capturing god" for help in making these women fall in love, which will push out the spirits within them. As it turns out though, the "capturing god" is only pertaining to online dating sims games. lol
Alive! The Final Evolution: This manga is just badass, but hard to explain so I got the online description. Unless you have a weak stomach this a must read.
A high schooler named Taisuke Kanou is living with his older sister, Youko, after the death of his parents. He lives a relatively quiet life until a massive surge of suicides around the world known as the "Nightmare Week" begins. From that moment on, weird phenomena begin to occur around Taisuke. He is victim of space travelling illusions. He sees a smiling girl who jumps to her death from atop a building. His best friend, Hirose, is framed for murder. His classmates are killing themselves for no apparent reason. Furthermore, the police always seem to keep an eye on Taisuke while investigating Hirose's case. At the same time, a psychotic murderer appears, and he sees our protagonist as his "comrade". Will Taisuke succumb to all of these crazy incidents? Or will he be able to someday return to his old peaceful lifestyle that he yearns for?
Mirai Nikki: A twisted manga. Deus, the God of Space and Time is reaching the end of his days. To select a successor, he picks twelve candidates and has them fight to death using cell phones that predict the near future. How many people would you kill to become God?
Deadman Wonderland: The sickest and most twisted of my little selection. Incredibly entertaining though. I don't want to ruin anything about it though, especially because it has the greatest beginning of any manga I've seen, so I don't want to ruin the surprise if anybody decides to give it a look.
On a last note, if anybody is a die hard fan for ecchi manga and horror, there's "High School of the Dead" a manga about what happens to some high school students when the zombie apocalypse slams into their lives. It's very gory and R-rated though, so be warned.
