I made this bag to make it easier to carry around my yarnstuff. Also my knitting friend has a kntting nest, and I wanted something similar. I crocheted/knit (with some help from mom) this bag. (my first made afghan in background)
Front
Back
close up on stitching
inside bag
inside outside pocket
The pattern I used to make it was
With size L cro-hook (or afghan hook) ch 30-33
Row 1. Pull up lp in each ch. Yo, pull through 1 lp, Ch 1. *Yo, pull through 2lps, ch 1*. repeat until 1 lp remians.
Row 2. Pull lp up through each verticle bar. When all lps are pulled up, yo, pull through 1 lp, ch 1 *yo, pull through two loops, ch 1* repeat until 1 lp remains. (this is called the knit stitch in crochenit, if it doesn't make sense, click here, http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?content_id=59)
Repeat row 2 until peice measures twice the highth you want your bag to be. to cast off, sl st in each verticle bar. ch 1, cut thread.
With wrong side facing you, fold bag in half. I made the bottom of the bag shapped like a paper grocery bag. Then sc the sides together to sew bag up.
Handles. (make 2) with size 6 knitting needles, cast on 10-12 st using stockinette st, make peice measure 14-16" sew it by folding it in half. Then attach handles to bag in any desired fashion.
Outside pocket (where I like to keep my yarn needles, sicssors, and tape measure) using size H hook, ch 30-35 then using size H (or I) afghan hook, afghan stitch until piece is square. Embroider whatever you like on piece. sew to outside of bag.
A word of caution, DO NOT LEAVE your hooks/needles in bag without them being in some sort of case.
