Matt looked at the stairs as he heard the first foot falls, even though he knew that the two adults in front of him couldn't hear them yet.
"Hearing things?" Emma's step father mocked.
Matt ignored him and smiled as Emma came in, the smile growing as he saw Alexandria. She blushed a deep red.
"Hello Alexandria," Matt said, standing up to greet the girls. He kissed Emma on the cheek briefly, just a little surprise flutter of butterfly wings for Emma.


Emma blushed,
"Alex this is Matthew," she introduced. Alex smiled,
"Nice to meet you," She said, then she turned to Emma,
"You were right," She whispered. Emma smiled,
"Told you," She said quietly. Then Emma smiled at Alexandria,
"Sit down I wana surpirse Garret and Nathan," She said staring back upstairs. Alex nodded sitting down next to Matthew's seat. Emma crept back upstairs.

Matt smiled at Alexandria.
"So, I hope you're ok with me dating your sister." Matt whispered to her.
"I hope you're ok with telling me everything about my sister that I've missed out on," she countered.
"Deal?" Matt chuckled.
"Deal." She commented.
"Good, that's settled then." Matt sat up straight to find the adults staring at them slightly. He smiled at them.

Emma walked to the next door, it had the name, "Garret' carrved on it neatly. Emma smiled knocking lightly.
"It's me open up," Emma said giggling. She heard little toys falling to the ground,
"Mommy? That doesn't sound like you," a small kid voice answered. Then she heard small footsteps walking to the door,
"No It's not Mommy," Emma answered, the door cracking open. The little boy peaking out to look at Emma,
"STRANGER!" the child screamed, runnin gpast Emma down the stairs. Emma sighed,
"Oh god..." she mumbled, following the child as he ran to her mother

Matt nearly laughed as the boy yelled 'Stranger' and his footsteps began to thunder down the stairs.
"Alex, there's a stranger in the house," the little boy whined, going to his older sister. He nuzzled her shoulder and looked at me over her shoulder. I smiled.
"Hi Garret, I'm Matt, and that girl up there is Riley, you're oldest sister," he explained calmly with all smiles.
Emma came down huffing slightly. Matt smiled at her.


"I was trying to say that but he didn't listen," Emma said walking over to him.
"Garret, don't be rude say hi," Alex said bringing him off of her lap, "Plsu you might of woke Nathan, he needs his rest you know better," Alex scolded. Garret's eyes started to tear,
"Don't yell at me!" He screamed running to Emma arms. Emma smiled as he cried in her shoulder.
"It's okay," Emma said looking up at Alex, "Meanie," she said giggling. then Garret looked up at emma,
"Your not leaving again are you?" he said wiping the tears from his red swollen eyes. Emma looked up at Matthew,
"Not for good, no, I'll need to go back to my place soon enough, but I'll never leave you forever," She said stroking his head. he smiled,
"Good cause I missed you," He said running back to his room, "I'll be back I gotta put away my trains," he said in excitement. Emma laughed as he went upstairs. then she turned to Her mother,
"He's adorable," she mumbled chuckling a little harder. Her mother smiled,
"Wait till you meet Nathan, he's a sweet boy," She said a sad smile rose to her lips,"Matthew go with her will you?" She asked, knowing that Emma wasn't ready for what she was going to see. Matthew nodded and they both walked up together, Emma walking slowly to the door with a smile on it that said ,"Nathaniel'. Emma grabbed the handle,
"You ready?" She asked, looking at Matthew with uncertainty. He nodded, and motioned her to open it. Emma slowly opened the door to find a small, petite,pale boy laying in his bed. The small breathing tube up his nose as he slept. emma walked quietly and slowly over to him, saddness filling her heart as he slept with a look of pain on his face. Then she hearrtd more footstep as she jumped,
"He just got another treatment," Emma's mother said walking in with them. Emma grabbing Matthew's hand as tears filled her eyes.

It's sad. I've dealt with death for a long time, and cancer is just the worst." Matt said truthfully, not going into detail of how exactly he had dealt with death, by causing it himself.
"They're adorable, you're children," Matt said to Emma's mother. Once she turned her back to go back downstairs, Matt hugged Emma tightly and planted a light kiss on her cheek.

Emma jumped as the little boy tossed in his bed, his small eyes opening,
"Who are you?" He asked groggily. Emma smiled,
"I'm your older sister Riley, I don't know if Mom told you," Emma said walking closer to him. He smiled,
"Yes she was a mess for quite a while, but Sorry you have to see me like this," He said pointing at his breathign machine and his bald head. Emma smiled,
"Your fine don't worry about it, get your rest I'll be here," Emma said kissing his forehead and walking out, Matthew in hand.

Matt looked back at the closed door.
"Don't you think you should stay with him for a bit?" Matt whispered to Emma as they walked back downstairs.

Emma turned to him,
"I woke him up hun," she answered, "he need his rest." She looked back at the door, guilt rising in her veins,
"Okay fine, but go downstairs and keep them company okay?" she said kissing him lightly on the lips and walking past him. She then reopened the door,
"Sorry to bother you again," she said softly. The boy looked at Emma and smiled,
"Oh it's you again," he said as Emma walked toward him. She smiled,
"So what's it like here Nate?" she asked sitting next to him.
"Busy," He answered, "But I like it when i'm home I don't get to be very often, noramally at the hospital." emma smiled weakly as she stroked the side of his face,
"I've missed you," She said quietly. He smiled,
"Me too."

Matt heaved a sigh as though he was 10 years old again and told to go greet the guests at the house parties.
But he pasted on a smile and went downstairs to say hi to everyone.
"She's still up there with Nate, just talking to him, keeping him company. Must get a little over whelming, everyone fluttering over every movement you make," Matt said nonchalantly, missing the flash of anger in Mrs. Young's eyes.
"He's dying. Of course we worry about what he does." She retorted.
Matt took a mental step back, reeling backwards.
"Death is natural Mrs. Young." Was all Matt had to say. It was natural, everyone died. And Mrs. Young wanted to try and stop it.

Emma smiled at him,
"Maybe someday you and I could go to the park, just the two of us," She said holding his little hands. He smiled,
"I'd like that alot," He said smiling from ear to ear. Emma smiled,
"Then It's a promise"she said giggling as she kissed his hand. He then frowned,
"Who was that man with you?" He asked looking concerned. Emma smiled,
"That was my boyfriend, Matthew," She said, "He helped me find you," she said smiling. He sighed,
"Oh good cause I thought that was another one of daddy's friends," he said. Emma froze,
"Why would that be a bad thing?" She said the hairs on the beck of her neck standing on edge,.

Matt felt instantly unwanted, and nearly left the room when Alexandria grabbed my hand in a comforting manner.
She led me out of the room.
"Don't worry about mom, she's just worried about Nate. She doesn't like the fact that he's so old and has to die," Alexandria defended her mother. Matt sighed.
"Death is a natural cause. It happens everyday and you can only fight it for so long. But it'll happen in a blink of an eye, no matter what you do to prevent it," Matt explained, thinking of Emma.
"So, what did you call Riley, when she didn't know her name?" Alexandria asked. I smiled sadly.
"Emma." I responded.
"That's nice." She smiled.

Emma looked at him and waited for himto answer,
"I-I can't tell you," He said biting his nails. Emma shook her head,
"You must I promise I won't tell anyone," She said. Then The little boy looked at Emma,
"He, they-" Then he was cut off, his body curling in on itself as his small body convulged, Emma froze in horror,
"Matthew!" She screamed, her voice echoing the small home. She tried to hold his head so he didn't hit anything,
"Your going to be okay," She murmured holding his balded head.
