Lakeside

[Zejx Frostrider]

The lake is a massive thing with the far edge fading off into the distance. The near side has an open spot with a small dock and a surrounding beach. Off to the side a little are some logs that are apparently meant to be used as seats and a few fire pits. But beyond that the rest of the lake is surrounded by forest, mainly pine so that the lake looks fresh and alive all year round.

This was just great, All Fayt wanted was to take a walk down by the water and try to make something of what all had happened to him. But no, something decided to interrupt that. He couldn't quite make it out, but it was definitely like before. Some type of creature and it was after him. But why? Why were these things after him? Did it have something to do with his out of body experience?

He barely dodged another swipe at him and dashed off away from it. He had to get away somehow. Yeah, like he could just out run the invisible monster. Fayt thought about trying to loose this thing in the city but dismissed that idea in no time. He wasn't going to put the people in danger just to save his own hide. There was already enough people at risk here as it was. If only he knew how to bring out the form that he used to defeat the other one.

Then he remembered something. Fayt searched around in his pockets until he found a shred of paper with a phone number on it. After finding his phone, he dialed it in. But whether someone answered or not he didn't know. After the second ring the creature finally found his mark. Be it answered or voice mail all that the phone would pick up was the horrible howl of the creature.

Akane catches her ring tone going at the last minute and excuses herself from the table, she picks up her cell and dips out into the hall. As the phone comes to her ear though she nearly drops the damn thing as a blast of noise bellows out of the device. She didn't know the number so she wasn't who it was but when the noise died out, she spoke into the receiver "Hello? Who is this? Are you alright?!"

Fayt had no idea where he was now. One moment he was running for his life, then the next he is in a open area completely covered in ice. There was nothing but blackness above him though. It was like he was on a frozen lake on a pitch black night. But it seemed like the ice gave off a bit of a glow.

He knelt down and put his hand on the ground. To his surprise it wasn't cold. Fayt surveyed the area as he stood back up. The pattern of the ice was like something happened right before everything froze over. Like something huge dropped into a pond and the ripples frozen in place. Judging from the size of the waves it must have been massive.

Fayt made is way through the frozen waves toward the center. As much as everything in him was telling him not to, he decided to see what was there. After what seemed like forever, he caught sight of something that appeared to be a huge frozen chunk in the distance. As he walked closer, it started to give off a faint light blue glow that become brighter. With every step it's shine grew a bit.

"So you have finally come." Fayt froze in place at the female voice."Don't be afraid. It's me,........" As he looked around a figure revealed itself inside the ice chunk. "Please come closer Fayt."

"Why should I? This is weird and so far everything that has been weird has tried to kill me." Which was a very good point. Everything seemed to be trying to get him today.

"It seems that your memory is still sealed away."

"What do you mean my memory is sealed? Who are you?" Fayt slowly approached. There was a beautiful female inside the ice. She opened her eyes and looked into his. Her lips moved for a moment but nothing came out. Her face turned saddened after that.

"It appears you can no longer hear my name either. I guess only the first seal has been released. There are still a few more on your power."

"What are you talking about? Memory and power sealed? Just what the hell is going on?"

The lady closed her eyes and gave off a faint glow. "It appears you are not ready for any more to be released yet. I guess this is going to take some time. However..." A katana slowly appeared in front of him. "We can at least get you able to use your Zanpaku'to again."

Fayt reached out and took hold of the handle. He felt a small surge of energy flow through his body for a moment. When it faded the pendant he wear started to glow for a bit.

"It appears the pendant has also reawakened now too. Good. You will be able to change to your other form whenever you need to by just focusing your power on it."

"I don't understand. Powers? Other form? What is going on?"

Fayt you are a Shinigami. A Soul Reaper if you want. It is your job to hunt down Hollows and guide the spirits to the after life. Or at least it was."

"Wait... was?" Fayt arched an eyebrow. "What do you mean was?"

"I believe you are the last Shinigami there is. I think they were all wiped out right after your powers and memories were sealed away. I'm not sure about all the details but I have a feeling we will find out soon. Now that your powers have started to return, you will be targeted."

"You mean by the hollows?"

"Well them and possible the ones who wiped out all the other Shinigami. But I think we have talked enough for now. I believe we owe some payback."

"We? Are you going to help me fight?"

"Of course. I am the spirit of your Zanpaku'to after all."

"Spirit of... my sword?"

"Yes. All Zanpaku'to are sentient. We are weapons given life by the spirit energy of the shinigami who made us."

"I see. But I really have no knowledge of fighting. What should I do?"

The female smiled. "Just stay calm and trust your instincts. Your body will remember how to fight."

Suddenly light began to engulf Fayt. He tried to say something but before anything came out, he was back on the lake shore. He was now in his shinigami form and standing of his body. The hollow that was chasing him seemed to be a bit confused at what just happened. Fayt took this time to draw his zanpaku'to from its sheath. Guess it was time to see if this instinct of his would save him. "Alright you giant beast. Time for you to know the fear you cause others while you chased me around this lake!"

The phone that was lying next to his body would surely pick up his voice for anyone who had started to gain powers like him.

After a few minutes Akane's silver camero comes tearing down the last stretch of road before parking, fairly sure it's illegally, and running full tilt to the lakeside "Fayt! Are you still here?!?!" Her red eyes scan the visible lake shore for the young man she came to assist.

As she approached, Akane would have seen two figures off in the distance engaged in battle. The smaller of the two seemed to have the upper hand. By the time Akane got close, Fayt delivered the final blow and the creature dissolved into nothing. The wound covered victor turned to Akane and smiled before collapsing to the ground.  

[Rinoa Heartily]

Akane bolts for Fayt when she sees him hit the ground. She looks him over and then realized he's out of his body again. "Oh god Fayt what happened?!" She doesn't know what to do next really. A doctor wouldn't see the part thats really hurt, his body looked fine minus a few small scrapes. "Fayt, are you ok, what do I do?"
