Information about the islands and their culture
Island of Dark
Those who live on the long, thin island far to the north belong to those who dwell in the darkness. This island is carved from ice and darkness; no light other than that of the moon can be found here. The Darkness Island has been believed to no longer exist for no one has seen or heard from them in over two centuries, since the last time the negative energy had been sealed away. No one knows why, but those of the Dark had cut them selves off from the rest of the world. The Island of Dark is ruled by a Royal Family, usually Male and either Royal by birth or through marriage to the crown princess if there is no prince of age. If there is a prince, the princess is raised to be a priestess and upon her twenty first birthday will be send off to the temple for the rest of her life. While this island is far to the north, it is not uninhabitable. These people have sturdy homes of ice and coral to withstand the frigid nights. Their main diet consists of vegetation dug up from the icy waters and some fish. There are also a number of other animals that inhabit the island as well such as bears, snow foxes, seals, and penguins. Although, it is said that dark Unicorns still live among them, for the black and silver beast was said to be the guardian of the God of the Dark.
Special traits:
- Those of the dark have either gray/silver, white, or black eyes and cannot handle sunlight or bright candle light of any kind. (Because of the lack of light they can see exceptionally well in the dark)
- hair colors are either white, gray, silver, or black.
- many have strange birthmarks on their skins ranging from grey to black
- skin is pale, but does not burn in the sunlight and for this, no one know why.
Special Powers for the Chosen One:
- to communicate with the recent dead under the cover of night.
- to control ice stained the color of black (this also means the ability to create it)
- to sense everything in the dark
- to have nothing to hide and to not judge others based on their self
Island of Fire
The small, volcanic island to the south east belongs to the Fire culture. These people are fiery and passionate just like the element they belong to. This island is small, but contains a dormant volcano and fertile, hot/warm land. The people of this island are blacksmiths and metalworkers, and trade with the other elements. The Fire is ruled by a Cheif who is either male or female depending upon the eldest child. It is said that a Phoenix sleeps deep within the volcano; sleeping and waiting for... no one is really sure, but they can feel it deep inside the dormant rock. The other animals that inhabit this island are small mammals like rabbits, wild dogs, and other such creatures.
Traits of the Fire:
- tanned and lightly tanned skin
- eyes the color of bright gems (greens and blues mostly, but some gold too)
- hair colors vary from shades of reds and blonds
Traits of the Chosen One:
- the ability to control and create fire (strongest during the daytime)
- to withstand extremely hot temperatures
- to be free and be ones self
Island of Light
Those of the Light are very much like their brothers and sisters of the Dark, only their home is always filled with warmth and light. The Island of Light can be found deep within the forests of the Earth Kingdom, surrounded by a large crystal clear lake. Their small city is carved from white marble and the clear waters of the lake run through it. This city is free of storm and other such catastrophes. The weather is always warm and even at night the city seems to glow. This city can only be seen by those of pure heart and those who are not will meet the fate of the dragon who guards this city. Those of the Light are led by the head priestess of the Light Temple, for she is wise and graceful and said to be the closest to the Goddess of Light. Those of the Light are usually healers. The light island is home to her people and to few creatures like birds and gryphons.
Traits of the Light:
- eyes and hair of varying shades of silver, white, and gray.
-skin pale and flawless.
- all have long hair
Traits of the Chosen One:
- ability to heal any wound, no matter how great (but drains energy to do so for too long a time)
- able to bring three people back from the dead upon fresh death (after the third time, they will lose their powers and no longer be the chosen one)
- can create balls of light from thin air
- to heal and create peace
Island of Spirit
The southern most island is a sea of sand and belongs to those of the Spirit. The people of this island are mostly merchants or thieves; people who like shiny things they can't afford. These people do not look kindly on outsiders on their Island, and will often go to the other islands to trade rather than welcome them to their sandy island. The desert island is ruled by a royal family said to be descended from the goddess herself, and is thus ruled by women rather than men.
Traits of the Sand:
- tanned skin
- hair from shades of red to dark brown
- eyes of shades of browns and golds, though some have green
Traits of the Chosen One:
- to see another's heart and their hidden emotions
- to use the energy found in all things to attack or create shields when needed
- to give everything their all
Island of Water
The island of water to the west is home to those of the water element. These people are often accused of being lazy because their tropical island is always warm and sunny, but it does get the occasional rain storm to keep the island pretty and green. The people of this island are fishers and watermen mostly and the women are weavers and shell collectors. Due to the nice weather these people live in huts or tree houses and the live off of fish and fruit. The island is home to many tropical birds like parrots and to one of the large cats-- the leopard. There is a legend about an undersea serpent that protects the island from invading forces that had been left by the water goddess long ago, but no one has ever seen it for no one has ever invades the tiny island. The water people are ruled by a chief who is usually male but his wife is not without authority.

- lightly or heavily tanned skin
- hair varying from browns to blacks
- eyes from shades of blues to browns, green is rare for them
- men usually have tribal tattoos in black ink across their bodies
Traits of the Chosen One:
- to control water, but cannot create it from nothing
- to breath underwater for an extended period of time
- to be serene and gentle like the flow of water
Island of Earth
The great nation of the Earth kingdom is the largest of all the other elemental islands. This land has a large, dense forest in the center that few travel deep into, for legend tells of a dragon that guards a sacred place. These people are mostly farmers, woodcutters, and wood carvers. This land is temperate; cool in the winter and warm in the summer. These people live by the seasons and change with them. There are many animals and beasts that inhabit this island with the people, and new ones are discovered everyday. The earth kingdom is ruled by one great king and a few village chiefs that report to him every few months. Man is the ruling gender of the earth kingdom, they are stubborn and strong to protect those they think need protecting.
Traits of Earth:
- pale or tanned skin
- little more muscled than the other nations
- hair in mostly shades of browns and black; red and blond are possible but just rare
- eyes come in shades of blue, green, and brown
Traits of the Chosen One:
- to move and shape the earth at will
- to communicate with any animal or creature
- to be steady and strong; to never lose sight of ones self
Island of Air
The last of the elemental island is that of the air tribe who live in the north east. This island is made mostly of mountains and trees and the climate is more cold and snowy in the winter and cool in the summer. Those of the air have built their homes into the sides of the mountains or on the ground of the forest. The air tribe is not really ruled by anyone, but the head monk usually looks out for his people and takes care of them when they are in need. People of this island are usually either monks or historians, keeping track of the history of their people and the of the other elements. This island is home to mountain goats, bears, and some oth the larger bird species. The people also live off of fish and produce they can grow in little gardens on the forest level.
Traits of Air:
- men usually have either short or no hair
- hair usually black or brown
- eyes usually brown or green
- lanky trains bodies rather than muscly
Traits of the Chosen One:
- to control and bend air to their will
- to be quick and agile
- to see the world and help those in need, but to never kill in cold blood
Back story
In the beginning, this world was untamed and wild. There was a vast ocean that covered the majority of the planet, except for seven islands. Each of these islands had a different climate and animal population and were wild. Mankind did not exist on this world yet, not until the Goddess Terra discovered this world over three hundred years ago. Terra was a goddess from another realm who fled to this one after taking a mortal wound from her brother, Himmel. Terra had suffered great wounds, ones that would not heal, so she chose to do something with her power before her brother took it from her. From her spirit, her soul she created the humans and she created order; law for the untamed land. From her heart and her flesh, she gave birth to seven lesser gods and goddesses to lead these humans and this world; to maintain a balance. One thing is never without the other. To the northern island, the one encased in ice and shadow, the dark god Erebos was born. Erebos was tall and slender, and nearly blind, but from him he taught his people that the dark is innocent and kind to those who follow and love her; to those who accept her she is endless. To the southern most island, the land covered in sand and heat, the goddess Aten was given. Aten was strong and beautiful and gave her people the power of sight and wisdom. She led her people who be open and to not judge based on appearance, but based on the heart. To the west, the small, tropical island was given to the goddess of water, Mazu. Mazu was carefree and spirited like the sea; but she had a temper if trifled with. Mazu taught her people to be one with the water and to flow along like a river; that harmony with ones surroundings was better than war. The southeastern island, housing a dormant volcano was given to, Huo, the god of fire. Huo gave his people a fiery attitude and determination. His people had strength of the heart and soul, but also impatient and sometimes far too wild. The northeastern island, and island of mountains and forest was given to the air goddess, Vayu. Vayu was slender and mysterious, her heart as hard to chart as the winds she controls. Vayu gave her people peace and serenity, as well as speed and flexibility. Vayu taught her people to use the wind and their surroundings to their advantage, but to never harm another life without purpose; to never kill a living creature in cold blood. The large island in the center of the others was given to the earth god, Tellus. Tellus taught his people to be stubborn and strong, to never give up until the day they die. Earth was a stubborn element, and to control her one must be equally as stubborn. The last island is a small, glowing island in the center of the Earth kingdom, hidden deep within the dark forest. This island of warmth and clarity was given to the light god, Alecto. Alecto was tall and reserved, seemingly carved from light and shining stars. Alecto taught his people to be selfless and gentle; to be calm and poised like living works of art. Alecto taught them that the world outside was cruel, therefore they must remain pure and untainted by the darkness.
As the years passed and the memory of the goddess Terra faded from the humans' minds, Himmel made his decent. Himmel was a god of sky and atmosphere and destruction. This god had a cruel sense of humor and a dark heart; a mind that thought of terrible things to do to this world his sister had created. He was angry that he had not been able to consume her power when she died, but no matter-- he would destroy everything she created and consume her power through force. It would be a much longer road to take, but he would do anything he could possibly do to get her power. Unlike Terra, Himmel could not enter this world physically; he was not strong enough yet. So, the first thing the sky god did was find a human with a dark heart; the darkest there was and to secretly offer them power. He found one such human in the Earth kingdom; a girl who was a slave due to her mixed blood and her low social standing. She was abused and she was beaten; she was never without bruises of some kind on her flesh. No one would offer her kind words and as the days passed her heart grew darker and darker until she tried to rebel against her cruel masters. This was when Himmel made his move. Himmel whispered sweet words in her ear, promising her the power to destroy her enemies and to take the world for herself. The girl wasn't smart enough to see that she was being tricked, but she accepted his offer. The girl traveled the world causing chaos and destruction; she tore down each of the six temples and was just about to finish her deed when the elements stood in her way. The seven dieties born from Terra had gathered together to protect the last temple, the temple of light. It took all of their strength and their spirit to defeat Himmel and to seal away his dark energy. It was a final battle that cost them all their lives in the end. Having used up all of their strength and life, the seven returned to their homes and there they passed down these events to their people. They were worried that the seal would not last forever, for dark energy feeds on dark hearts and souls. The energy would one day return and Himmel would try and finish that which he had failed to do. The last of the seven dieties lives was spent to repair the seals on their temples and to place new seals. When the time came in the future when they would be needed, they wanted to help those who would carry on for them.
Each of them had born children, and one day one of their descendants would take up arms to protect Terrena.

The Chosen One's Character Info.
Chosen of Darkness
Keira

One silver eye and one black (black is usually hidden behind hair)
Keira is the youngest princess of the dark royal family and has lived a very sheltered life. Her older brother, Keiran, is the crown prince and will soon be made king and will also soon take a wife. Soon after his coronation, Keira will be sent off to the temple to be the high priestess. Keira had never known love nor has she ever had the opportunity to do so. In being a woman she was not allowed such things since she would be sent off to the temple. A priestess cannot know the touch of a man; she must be pure of mind, spirit, and body. Keira spend most of her time locked away in the dark palace and kept away from the rest of her people. But Keiran would occasionally let her out and take her into the gardens to see the moon lily's and other cold loving plants and animals. One day she got out on her own and ventured farther into the garden than normal. In the dark she was not afraid. The dark was her companion and her friend; she welcomed it. In the dark, she met a creature she had never seen before, but one she had heard about in the tales of Erebos; the dark unicorn. The unicorn introduced himself as Ere, and told her all about his dark companion back in the day. Keira used to sneak out late at night just to see him and listen to his tales of the old days. Then one night, the night before she would be sent to life in the temple, Ere had something of great importance to tell her. Erebos had passed on orders and conditions for Ere to follow after one thousand years, one who was in touch with the darkness, the child of his soul would appear just before the world would be plunged into chaos. Keira was that chosen one and so, Ere told the young woman of her fate. That night, Keira has a dream of the past and a vision of the future. In the morning when she awoke, a black metal bracelet had materialized upon her wrist with what seemed to be a unicorn wrapped around it.

Lucius is the son of the current head priestess of the light temple. As a young boy he was born with the uncanny ability to heal any living creature, but at a greater cost. If the wound was too big, it would drain his health and strength until he couldn't stay conscious any longer. As he grew older he grew up to be kind and gentle, loving all things and seeing the beauty in even the most ugly f creatures. But there was one thing h was not allowed to do: see the outside world. His mother had forbidden him from ever crossing the clear lake to the earth kingdom. After a while he no longer tried to cross it, but still he longed to see the outside world. One full moon night while he was out swimming he heard a voice calling to him. At first he tried to ignore it but the voice grew louder and more insistent. Finally he swam out further into the lake until he could see a large mass in the water. Curious, he swam close and the large mass pushed up through the water until a long neck with a scaley head emerged. Lucius gazed up at the head of the guardian dragon, Ashura. His scaled were iridescent and reflected the nagnificent colors of the rainbow. And his eyes were clear and white, yet deep and wise. A voice touched his mind, and Lucius was not afraid. The dragon explained to him what he was, why he had been given the great healing gift and that there were more powers inside of him. That he was destined to find and help the other chosen ones to defeat the evil that would appear. The dragon then vanished and turned into a single, iridescent bracelet that was just the right size for Lucius.

Safara was born an only child of a blacksmith and his wife. Safara lived a normal, healthy childhood until the day she met the fire prince, Darek. Safara was not royalty, but she was rich being the daughter of a blacksmith and all that. Well, she fell in love with the handsome, strong prince and he seemingly returned her love. They spent a lot of time together and Darek even talked to her about meeting his parents and then her parents and asking for her hand in marriage. Safara was overjoyed by this, and agreed to it. They would meet the king and queen first to get their approvals. The king was not thrilled by this news that his son wanted to marry a girl that was not picked out for him. Sure, they couldn't find any real problems with her other than the fact that she wasn't ladylike and she was too wild like the very fire they worshiped. So to try and discourage the two, the king gave the girl a single task-- to pick a flower from the edge of the dormant volcano and to bring it to him. If she did this then he would acknowledge her and his son's love and allow them to marry. Safara was fearless and accepted the kings challenge and strode out of the castle that night and went straight for the volcano. No one ever went there for fear of angering the pheonix god and causing the volcano to erupt. But Safara didn't care, she loved Darek far too much to worry about anything like that. When she reached the top of the volcano, she could feel some kind of heat coming from inside of it. Upon a closer look it seemed the volcano had started to become active. When she turned to try and run back down to warn the village, she slipped and fell into the depths of the volcano. Before the girl could hit the warming lava, a great fire burst forth from the magma and caught the girl. While this bird was cloaked in fire and warmth, it did not burn. Safara had been saved by the guardian fire bird-- the legendary Pheonix. The bird informed the girl about who she really was, the late fire god reborn as a woman and that her love was deceiving her. The girl told the fire bird that he was wrong, but she accepted her duity to save the world. He turned into a brilliant red/gold bracelet on her wrist. Safara picked her flower and went back to the king to show him her prize and found her beloved prince locking lips with another girl in the throne room. Hurt and betrayed she threw the flower at his feet and left.

Haldis was born onto the sandy so called streets of the island of spirit. Never knowing his parents, he was raised with the other street rats of his people. One would think he lived a life never wanting what he never had and having the determination to make his way in the world through an honest living. But that would be completely wrong. Haldis was a thief; take what you want and never regret kind of man. He wanted more and he wanted a better life, though he wouldn't go about it the honest way. Haldis stole for a living and helped take care of the other kids who had no families to call their own. He was their protector, like Robin Hood. One day he stole something that was a gift for the Heir to the Throne. He was later caught and had an audience with the Sand Queen who sentenced him to the desert. The captain of the royal guard (who was also the king) drug the young man out into the middle of the desert, miles into the sea of sand, and left him there. They gave him no food or water and with nothing else save the gift he had stolen which was a golden bracelet with serpents carved into it. It was old, and Haldis had not thought anyone would miss it when he had taken it and now he was proven wrong. Haldis wouldn't give up, he couldn't go back to the capital but maybe he could reach the next village or even reach the ocean. Haldis managed to walk for days, living off of cacti juice but eventually he too fell to the rays of the sun. As he lie there, waiting for the heat to kill him a burning sensation crept up his arm. He turned to see the bracelet glowing and the eyes of the serpents were giving off an ere green glow. At last the bracelet became a large golden cobra that towered over him like a large building. The shadow of this great serpent engulfed Haldis. The serpent had asked Haldis if he wanted to live. Haldis replied that he did with all that was left of him and more. The serpent revealed that Haldis was being called into battle, and that this had been a test of his heart and he had passed. Haldis was the chosen of spirit and needed to find the princess of the dark, for all the answers were with her.

Shui is the second oldest son of the late Chief of the Water Tribe. Being second means he did not inherit the title of Chief, but rather his older brother, Nui, did instead. Shui was okay with this because it meant he was free to do as he wished... at least he thought so. Being second means he still had a lot of responsibilities on the peaceful island. Shui was the lead hunter and led the hunts in his brothers stead. Shui loved the water and loved spending his time floating among the waves and basking in the sunlight. His skin was more tanned than his brothers due to all of his time out in the sun and the waves. One day came when Nui went out with them hunting, which was strange because he liked to spend his time in the forest and sleep all day. Well, that afternoon a big storm hit the island while the hunters were all out fishing on their wooden boats. As the storm was beginning to make the wave roll and the wind pick up, Nui made a decision to take everyone left on the boats back to the island. Shui was still out in the water with two other people at the time, and they were left behind. Shui wasn't about to give up, not with the storm rolling in the way it was and even as the rain began to pound around him he wanted to save the two left with him. He helped them get back to land and onto the shore first, but Shui slipped back into the water and struck his head and the waves pulled him back out to sea. When Shui awoke he was lying on something hard, leathery, and blue. When his eyes could focus he saw he was on the back of some large fish and when that "fish" pulled its head out of the water he saw it was a sea serpent. The mythical sea serpent had saved his life. The sea serpent-- Ka'il-- went on to tell Shui that he was a descendant of the late goddess of water and he would be the one to represent her in the coming war. Shui had asked why it wasn't his brother and the sea serpent had told him it was because his brother was a coward and didn't love the ocean the way Shui did. The sea serpent then carried the boy back to shore and then turned into a silver bracelet with a blue topaz stone on it.
