Foreign Arts Class Assignment#1

For those who wish to be in my class, here is a new assignment for foreign arts. I would like you all to look up some information on the Heian period. Since we've all heard about the disaster in Japan, I thought it would only be appropriate to learn a little more about it. You will have two weeks to turn in this assignment. Do NOT send this as a personal message to me. Just post it here in the forum. And please do NOT copy other people's work or you will suffer the consequences.

What was it named after? Named after capital city Heian-kyō

The period is noted for the rise of the samurai class. The Emperor Kammu moved the capital city to Heian-kyō which is present day Kyoto. During which Buddhism began to spread. Written Chinese was the official language. The thought of beauty became an important aspect in a "good" person.
