Travesty in the new anime.

As many of you know, 2011 celebrates fifteen years of 'Rurouni Kenshin', and the visual media has been going all-out. They've already released a new video game for the PSP called 'Rurouni Kenshin Saisen', planned a live-action movie, and have confirmed a new anime. That's right, a new anime.
I know many of you are probably thinking 'So they're going to animate the whole series? Jinchuu Arc and everything?? FINALLY!!'

Ha ha... NO. That's not what they're doing at all.

Details about the new anime have recently come to the surface, and what's really going to be made is a compressed two-parter of the Kyoto Arc. From Misao's point of view.

Good for Misao fans. Bad for everyone who has been looking forward to full animation of the manga.

That news was indeed disheartening. Why waste time remaking an arc that was practically perfect in every way, when it was the Jinchuu Arc the fans wanted in the first place?

At least there's the live action film to look forward to. Damn one year waiting time!

Also, Watsuki is working on some sort of sequel manga to RK. Hopefully, it's about Kenji and Shinya's rivalry to be the last master of Mitsurugi.

My theory about it is that the Kyoto Arc is the most popular arc, what with most of the characters there - such as Saitou, Hiko, and Soujiro - being as favored among fans as the Kenshin-gumi themselves. Therefore, they think that a new take will be just as popular, and maybe rake in more cash with DVD sales. Meanwhile, all we can do is continue to b***h and moan until someone finally does the Jinchuu Arc some justice. ...No pun intended.

I heard about that. So it's definitely a sequal? (I just heard about a "reboot", so my first thought was "Maybe showing Kenshin growing into the wanderer he is/was?")

Hopefully, this means a sequel, or maybe a midquel of some type. I would also love to see stories about Kenshin's years training under Hiko, or his ten years spent wandering. Perhaps a series about Bird Brain's voyage around the world!

Sorry for not being very active lately.

I thought to check the guild after I heard of the live action RK but I haven't been able to to do any investigating on my own about it. Mostly cuz of lack of time and all. If it's going to be a sequel I hope they do a very good job with my grandpa Kenji and everything. xd

The new manga isn't a sequel. It's an alternate time line that coincides with the live action film.

The new manga is a little weird to me. It's like Watsuki took RK, added a splash of 'Buso Renkin', and dumbed Sano down a bit. And Kanryuu... Oh god, Kanryuu... burning_eyes It'll take some time to get used to.

The movie looks pretty cool, though. SPOILERS Even if Gein is a younger man with a partially scarred face. But that's artistic liscence for you.END SPOILERS

I wish Watsuki would hurry the hell up with chapter 3. As for Sano, it's not much effort to dumb him down, lol.

I hope the movie gets released in the US. I will die if it doesn't.

We need to keep our hope up. If the two Kyoto Arc movies are well received, they may do the Revenge Arc after all.
