Romance novels

Alright, I confess: they are my guilty pleasure.

I like them for the silly writing, and the awkwardness.

What do you think? Piece of garbage? Awesome? Somewhere in between?

*shrug* I have nothing against people who like them, but I find romance hard to get into. Or rather, I'm the most picky when it comes to romance. If it has a main plot, and romance is just a side plot I can end up really liking it (usually more so for anime/manga than novels), but if it's just straight romance, I can end up liking some romance anime/manga series but they need to be really original, while novels it's much harder for me to get into romance for some reason.
Some of the male-oriented (with a male protagonist) romance novels I've read in Japanese ranged from good to OK, but I don't think there are as many of those in English.

Best romance novelists wrote the interesting and beautiful love story for the readers. There are many romantic novels like vampire romance novels, historical romance and many more romantic novels. I have read vampire romantic novel, it has good story to enjoy and make happy reading.

I Yeah, most English romance novels seem to be primarily geared towards women; porn that's socially acceptable to be experienced by women, I think.

Yeah, that's it! Women in porn films have unrealistic bodies, while men in romances can have unrealistic ("too perfect") personalities which I guess can lead both sexes to have an unrealistic ideal when it comes to relationships, which can keep them consuming romance/porn, and maybe in the worst cases shun real relationships? ...It's
kind of sad thinking about it that way, even if those are extreme scenarios. ^-^;

Not at all! But yes, I think the need for fantasy sometimes makes for dangerous moralistic/life territory. I once read a novel (which I rather liked), whose name I can't remember right now, where the male protagonist was blind. In all other aspects, he was, of course, a perfect character, but on a review I noticed that someone had commented that they didn't like solely for the fact that he was blind. I personally found that a bit unreasonable, and little disturbing. The same person also commented that they wanted the world in romance novels to be "perfect". O_O
