“Stop rubbing your eye, that will make it worse,” Claire said to Mitch. He just blew her off. He had enough of girls for the day. He hated the fact that he got knocked down by a girl, especially a lower class girl. He just grumbled and ate his dinner angrily. Feronia noticed the line getting shorter, so she decided to go and get her meal. Mitchell took note of this as a grin grew on his face. As Feronia headed back to her seat with a plate of food, Mitch got up and stood in front of her, his chest puffed out. “Get out of my way before you get another black eye to match the first one,” Feronia said. She tried to walk away but he grabbed her wrist, causing her to drop her food, “You think I’m going to let you get away with what you did earlier?” Feronia felt pain surge through her wrist as he squeezed it, bones cracking. Just as she was about to punch him, something caught her eye.

Mitchell had this confused look on his face as if he had no idea what just happened. One moment he was threatening Feronia, and the next thing he knew, he was on the floor. Claire was a little glad Mitchell was stopped but she was sad that he was on the floor and hurt. She stayed in her seat quietly. “Looks like little Miss tough orphan doesn’t know how to fight her own battles anymore,” Mitchell mocked. Feronia glared at him, kicked him and turned to Rikard, “I don’t need anyone to fight my battles for me,” she hissed at him as she clenched her fists and stormed out. As she walked out, it started to rain. Thunder and lightning shaking up the skies. “I am not weak,” she kept saying to herself as she clenched her fists tighter from the pain of her broken wrist. She ran to her room, slammed the door and fell to her knees on the floor. There, she burst into tears.

Mitchell sat back down at his table with Claire. “Man you got your a** kicked,” said one of Mitchell’s friends. “Shut up,” he replied, stuffing a spoonful of food into his mouth. Claire hadn’t yet finished her dinner. She was still thinking about what happened. Feronia’s plate of food was still on the floor. Claire got up from her seat, cleaned up the mess, and threw everything away except for a loaf of bread she hid in her jacket. She went back to the table and asked Mitch if she could leave, he waved her off as if she was a bug. She walked out to the exit, grabbed her umbrella and walked out into the rain. She was walking towards her cabin when she noticed a necklace with the survey corp insignia carved into a beautiful green stone. “This is Feronia’s……I should return it to her,” Claire thought to herself. She looked around to make sure no one else was nearby, picked up the necklace and headed to see Feronia. When she got to Feronia’s quarters, the door was slightly ajar. She could hear sniffling from inside the room. Claire peeked inside and saw Feronia laying on her bed curled up under the covers. Feronia was holding a small brown stuffed bear in her arms. “Claire stepped into the room and Feronia looked at her angrily, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to barge in but the door was open and I…I wanted to return this to you,” Claire held out Feronia’s necklace. Feronia wiped her tears and sat up taking the necklace and putting it on. “Thanks,” Feronia said to her. “I ummm also brought you this,” Claire pulled out the loaf of bread and put it on Feronia’s table. “I saw you weren’t able to eat and I didn’t see you at breakfast or lunch so I figured you were hungry.” Feronia was hesitant. This was after all Mitch’s girlfriend. As Feronia reached her hand to grab the bread, the pain in her wrist worsened. She winced. “He really did hurt you didn’t he?” Claire said. “What do you care?” Feronia scoffed. “I was just worried. Let me see,” Claire reached out to grab Feronia’s hand, but Feronia jerked back. Claire looked at Feronia with gentle eyes and she relaxed a bit. “Who is this girl? She isn’t at all like the way she is when Mitchell is around,” Feronia thought. Claire gently grabbed Feronia’s hand and began to wrap it with a cloth she had in her pocket. The way Claire held Feronia’s hand didn’t give Feronia any pain at all. Claire was so swift and her hands were as soft as silk. A feeling stirred inside of Feronia. It was a feeling she hadn’t had in a long time. For some reason, this Claire was different, her manners, her kind eyes, everything about her reminded Feronia of home. Tears started to well up in her eyes again. Claire looked up at Feronia and smiled. “All done, this should keep your hand from moving around so much. Just make sure to get it in a cast in the morning.” Claire stood up and as she was about to leave, Feronia grabbed Claire’s jacket. Feronia didn’t know why, but she wanted Claire to stay just a little longer. Claire smiled gently and sat down on a chair in front of feronia’s desk. “I’m sorry,” Claire said. Feronia looked up with a confused face. “I’m sorry for all the times I couldn’t stand up to Mitch and stop him.” Feronia saw a sad look in Claire’s eyes as if she really thought she wasn’t strong enough. “It’s fine, I can fight my own battles,” Feronia said with a tough attitude. Claire looked at her, smiling again, “There is the tough Feronia I know.” Claire giggled a bit as Feronia rolled her eyes and smiled. “Speaking of battles,” Claire said as she got up, “That boy from earlier in the cafeteria, you should thank him. Not just any guy would rush to save a woman he didn’t know.” And with those final words, Claire left the room.

When Soren finally got to the barracks, which didn't take him very long since he was half running, he entered the room where Rikard was sitting on his bed quietly chewing on something. "I don't need to hear another one of your lectures." Rikard said as he cast Soren an annoyed look. "That's not why I-" Soren then stopped as he took notice of the more than half eaten cookie in Rikard's one hand. "Hey, those were mine!" Soren nearly shouted. Rikard had forgotten how terrifying Soren could be, he was so used to seeing him calm all the time "Cut me some slack, I didn't get any lunch or dinner." Rikard said in self defense, even though it was his own fault he skipped those meals. Soren quickly walked over to his own bed and knelt down, reaching under it and feeling around. "Don't bother checking, they're all gone." Rikard said sheepishly, hoping not to anger him further. But that wasn't what he was checking for. Soren carefully lifted a loose floorboard and felt around under it for the documents he hid there. He almost sighed out loud when he confirmed they were still where he left them, as he put the board back in place. Glancing over his shoulder, Soren suddenly grabbed his pillow and threw it at Rikard, hitting him square in the face. "Hey! What was that for?!" Rikard said, completely startled. "Do you know how hard it is to find those?!" Soren's voice shook. Rikard wasn't sure if Soren was furious, but knowing his love for sweets, Rikard wouldn't have been surprised if he started crying. "Well maybe you should think of a better place to hide them other than under your bed next time!" Rikard spat back, only to get another pillow in the face. He glared at Soren, but then started to grin mischievously. "Bring it on!" Rikard challenged, grabbing his pillow now and tossing it at Soren. He remained unfazed, and returned fire with another pillow he got from the bed next to his. Soren threw it so hard this time though that the seam came undone and a cloud of feathers burst out into the air as it hit Rikard. Both stopped for a moment, as the feathers fell to the ground, before breaking out into laughter. They're fun was short lived when the door opened and Erik appeared, checking in on his way by to see what the commotion was about. "What in the world happened here?..." Erik asked, looking around at the mass of feathers scattered everywhere in horror. He then turned on them and glared. "You two better have this mess cleaned up before I get back, or else!" Erik yelled before slamming the door behind him and leaving. "What's got him in captain mode all of a sudden?" Rikard looked at Soren nervously. "He hates clutter." Soren said as he headed out the door to find a broom. Rikard, rather amused by Erik's pet peeves, fallowed close behind.
