Rikard almost tripped as he stumbled out of the way, barely avoiding being trampled by the horse. As he regained his balance, he looked over his shoulder in the direction the girl and her horse went. Rikard then realized how fast they were, and with no saddle or bridal. "Not bad." He smirked, quite impressed by her skill. The smile quickly faded from his face though. "Damn, I didn't get a chance to ask her name!" Rikard grabbed at his hair with both hands in disbelief. Alsvin then leaned towards Rikard and nudged him, nearly pushing him over. "Yeah, yeah..." Rikard sighed as he went and picked up the apples he dropped. He gave Alsvin and Moon a whole apple each as he walked by their stalls. When he reached Soren's horse, all that was left was the somewhat eaten apple. "Sorry, GoldFax, you get this one. But I'm sure you won't mind, not like you need to eat more, you fat lard." Rikard said, as the horse ate the apple happily none the less. "Horse like master." Rikard laughed, referring to how both Soren and his horse would eat anything.
Soren was leaving the mess hall, the door closing behind him, when he suddenly sneezed loudly. "Catching a cold?" Erik asked as he stuck his head out of the door behind Soren, just about to leave himself. Soren just shrugged, rubbing his nose and continuing on. Both left in a different direction.

As Feronia was holding her arms open, she heard some laughter from behind her. It was a few of her old training mates. "Hey Feri!" One of the males mocked. He was tall and lean atop a brown and white paint horse. Feronia tried riding away but she was stopped by the other riders. She glared at the male who called her. "Dont you have some place else to be annoying at Mitchell." she said. A female spoke up, "How dare you call him annoying!" The female was his girlfriend Claire. Mitchell raised his hand and Claire shut up. Then he said, "Well well well, looks like we have the reject over here!" he announced. His group of friends started laughing. Feronia just sat there patiently. Mitchell spoke again "I bet you don't even want to be here!" He scoffed, "You only came here cuz you weren't in the top ten. You're a big baby who listens to no one and always wants things to go her own way." Feronia looked at Mitchell and punched him straight in the face right off his horse. She smiled in victory, but it was short lived when she heard another voice behind her. "HEY YOU!" someone shouted assertively. She turned around on her horse. She was ready to punch someone else if she had to. But this person looked like the leader of a squad. "What are you all doing?! I told you to train!" he yelled. Claire spoke up, "We were trying to train when this girl showed up and attacked us! She punched Mitchell in the face." Claire said as she pointed to Mitchell. The others nodded their heads in agreement. "All of you, go back to the stables. We are done for the night," said the leader. Feronia started to sneak away when, "All except for you," He said, riding over to Feronia. "You're the girl who skipped orientation aren't you?" Feronia looked away. "I thought so. Come with me." He rode in front of her as they trotted back to camp without saying a word. He stopped by the main building at the camp and both of them got off their horse. Feronia followed the man as he lead her down a series of hallways to a door with a chair outside. "Wait here," he instructed her. The squad leader went inside the door. Feronia could here the man talking to someone else. She just sat down in the chair crossed her arms, and waited to be called. She was used to this kind of thing.

Soren wondered the streets of Trost district, evidence of the battle still showed despite the rush for repairs. As he walked, he found some flowers that were growing wild off the side of the cobbled road and picked them, carrying them along with him. Arriving to his destination, he stopped in front of a small building with a half collapsed wall. It seemed no repairs had begun in this particular area at all. Soren laid the flowers down on the spot Luka was found, still stained with his blood. He had been bringing flowers here everyday since Luka died. Soren stood and stared for awhile, reminiscing, when a voice behind him broke the silence. "Are you Soren Klauman?" It asked, the source of the voice coming from a tall figure standing between two other buildings, wearing the standard issue rain gear with the hood pulled up all the way so there was no way of telling who they were. Soren just stared, not saying a word. "Ah, yes. The strong silent type, I've heard all about you." Soren slightly raised an eyebrow at this statement. How could this stranger possibly know anything about him? "No worries, though. I only came here to deliver these documents to you and inform you that your squad is under investigation." The figure explained, holding out a large envelope containing the documents he mentioned. Soren stepped forward to take it, immediately noticing this person was definitely from the military. Soren also noticed this perosn wasn't that much shorter then him, but of course, that was saying a lot since Soren was 6'4. When he tried to take the envelope, the stranger didn't let go of it. Worry flickered across Soren's face, but the figure then looked up to look Soren straight in the eye. Just barely revealing the hooded figure's cold blue eyes, and brows that were bushier then even Soren's. "Tell me, who do you think the real enemy is here?" He asked. Soren hesitated for a moment, trying to comprehend the reason for the question. Then suddenly it came to him. "The real enemy? It sure isn't those brainless, giant heaps of flesh stomping around aimlessly outside the walls, that's for sure." Soren said, giving his honest opinion. He had never mentioned it to anyone, but Soren always wondered why titans where so humanoid. It brought up many questions for him that he could never find the answers too. The stranger must have liked Soren's answer, as he just smiled and let go of the documents, turning around and disappearing behind the buildings.

Feronia sat there twiddling her thumbs. She stared at the blank wall in front of her. Her mind went back to the time when Wall Maria was taken over......... (Flashback) Feronia was out tending to the horses in their family's farm when suddenly the ground started shaking. She saw the horses become frantic. She immediately rushed to the house. "Mom mom mom!" she said in a panic, "The horses are going crazy!" she looked to her father. His eyes were wide. Her mother was holding on tightly to the to the kitchen counter. "Mom?" Feronia asked again. Her father came out of his daze as the ground shook again. "Stella, we have to get Feronia out of here," he said as he grabbed his wife's hand. "Right," sighed her mother, "Feronia come on there isn't much time," her mother grabbed her hand and pulled her outside, running to the horse stables. "MOM! WHat's going on?!" Feronia yelled. She saw her father come out of the house with a sword and a gun. Her mother ignored her and looked around for horses to ride, but there wasn't any left except for a little black one. The black horse wasn't strong enough yet or old enough to hold two people let alone someone of an adult size. Stella grabbed her child, "Feronia," she said calmly, "Do you remember when we visited the town called Karanese?" Feronia nodded her head. "I need you to take Alodia there right now. Ride her as fast as you can!" The ground shaking was becoming louder and louder. Feronia looked at her mother then she looked around for the other horses, "What about you and dad?" Stella put her daughter on the horse and smiled at her young daughter, "We will find the other horses and ride them there. We will meet you. Now go! And whatever you do, don't look back!" said her mother as she slapped the little horse's butt to get them going fast. Feronia started to cry but she wiped her tears. She rode Alodia as fast as she could to the entrance of Karanese. A soldier let her and Alodia in. As soon as they were in, Feronia fell to her knees and cried. (flashback end) Her memories were interrupted by a voice, "You may come in now," it said.

As Feronia entered the room, she immediately recognized the bald-headed man sitting in front of her. "You may leave us," he said to the soldier that brought Feronia to him. "Yes Commander," the soldier said as he walked out. "Sit down Feronia," he said as he poured himself a glass of liquor, "I understand you missed orientation and that you punched a fellow soldier." Feronia sat down in the chair in front of him. This was a man she respected very highly. He had taken care of her until she was old enough to join the training corps. "Yes I did. What are you even doing here? You're the commander of the Garrison." she said to him. "I had a few matters that needed to be attended to," he looked at her as a way of saying she was one of the matters, "You cannot be attacking fellow soldiers. That is not what I taught you." Feronia nodded her head, "I know," she said. "Now about which squad you will be put in, I think it would be best if you were to be put in Dita's squad. They are a small group and can use your assistance with your knowledge of horse training and breeding." Pixis figured this would be the perfect group for her since it was only a two man team. Feronia lifted her head as did her spirits. She had hoped she could be in a group that knew horses as well as she did. This was the first time since joining the scouts that she felt happy. She wasn't afraid to show her emotions to Pixis. He understood her. "So are we in agreement than?" he said to her. "Yes sir!" Feronia nodded, stood up, and saluted him. He smiled, stood up and saluted her back. Then she left.

Erik leaned back in his chair, bringing his feet up and resting them on top of his desk. He then looked over at an old picture of Luka, him, and their uncle. It was the only thing on his desk other than a little lamp and a coffee mug with a bunch of assorted pens and pencils in it. He should have been filling out his routine report, but he didn't feel like it. Erik just stared at the picture.
*flashback start*
The sun shone brightly and there was a smooth breeze as Erik stood in the pasture, stroking the face of light dapple grey horse. It was a perfect day to be outside. The horse's ears then shot up and became frantic, stepping back and forth restlessly. "What's the matter?" Erik looked at the horse, then in the direction the horse's ears were rotated towards. He stared at the treeline in the distance near the edge of the pasture, when trees started toppling over and several titans rushed out. Erik's eyes widened in horror at the sight of real life titans, the reality of them actually inside the wall was difficult to comprehend. He then snapped to it and flung the gate wide open, grabbing the mane of the nearest horse to him and pulling himself up onto it's back. He sped off towards home to warm his uncle and brother. Luckily he didn't have very far to go. When he reached the house he started to call out to Luka and their uncle. "Luka!" Erik yelled just as Luka opened the house door. "Erik? Why are you hollering?" Luka asked as he rubbed his eyes drowsily, clearly he had been slacking off on his chores again. "Where is uncle?!" Erik asked frantically. "He only said he was going out. What did you do now?" Luka asked, starting to get a little concerned. "Titans broke through the wall and they're headed this way!" The news was slow to dawn on Luka, his eyes gradually widened as he looked around. "Come on, we gotta leave now!" Erik said, holding out his hand to his brother so he could help Luka up onto the horse. But instead of taking his hand, Luka bolted off in the direction of the barn. "What are you doing?!" Erik fallowed him on horseback. "There are pregnant mares still in the stalls, we can't leave them there!" Luka hollered, running as fast as he could towards the barn. "We don't have time!" Erik began to panic, but Luka ignored him and continued on. When they got to the barn Luka ran in and started to open all the stall gates, freeing the mares, while Erik waited outside, too scared to get off his horse and help. It wasn't till now that Erik noticed how much the ground was shaking, the sound of heavy footsteps fast approaching. His heart started racing as he suddenly steered the horse towards the barn and kicked hard, the horse jumped with a start and quickly moved. Luka had just opened the last mare's stall when Erik grabbed him by the shirt and tried hoisting him up on the back of the horse with him, but Luka was a bit bigger then him so it was like pulling his own weight and then some. The horse then made a sharp turn and sprinted out the the barn doors, just as a giant hand came smashing through the wall. Their horse whinnied at the sound of the barn collapsing on top of the titan. A breath of much needed luck, as that certainly would slow it down and allow them to gain some distance. Luka looked back over his shoulder, a sense of relief overcame him when he saw all the horses had made it out in time. "That was stupid, why would you risk your life for a few horses?" Erik asked Luka angrily. "If you had the strength to save someone, would you feel right leaving them to their certain death?" Luka asked, trying to sound philosophical. "Not for a horse, I wouldn't" Erik scoffed. Luka always had cared somewhat more for the horses then he did. "You're too cynical, you should try and fix that or you'll end up bringing others down around you." Luka tried his best not to sound overly criticizing. He then reached over Erik's shoulder and poked him in the cheek. "You could start by smiling more." Luka grinned, as if making an example on how too. Erik just brushed his hand away. "Right now we should worry about getting to Chlorba without running into anymore titans." Erik said, changing the subject. He didn't fully understand what the situation was, but he knew their only option was to get to the district as fast as possible. "Chlorba, that's just southeast of us." Luka said, knowing the place well since they had been there numerous times with their uncle. "Yeah, and judging from the direction the titans we saw were coming form I would say the chances of us coming across more are looking bad." Erik said nervously. "I'm sure we'll be fine, you worry too much." Luka smiled, patting the horse on the back. Erik rolled his eyes, he always hated Luka's nonchalant attitude. But Luka's faith was well placed, as they made it all the way to Chlorba district without running into anymore titans. "Where will we go now?" Luka asked Erik, sticking close to him in the panicked crowd of refugees waiting to get into the city. "I guess we could always stay with the Klauman family in Dauper, uncle is old business buddies with Mr. Klauman so maybe we'll even see him there too." Erik said, unenthusiastically. They had only met that family a few times, so he wasn't particularly fond of them. Luka then looked out towards the hills in the distance and pointed excitedly, his eyes wide with wonder. "Hey look, the horses fallowed us!" Luka grinned happily. Erik could only stare in awe as he saw the horses. Maybe he was wrong to think saving them was too much of a hassle, no life should be considered any less valuable then another. Those mares were quite important, and Erik felt terrible that he was so prompt to just call them as a loss, and that maybe that was what Luka was trying to tell him.
*flashback end*
Erik reached over and flipped the picture over on its front so he didn't have to look at it. He took a deep breath and then repositioned himself in his chair, grabbing a pen so he could get to work on that report. Dull tasks like this helped him forget.
