The House Cup competition is open!
Current House Points
45 Points -- Gryffindor
50 Points -- Ravenclaw
10 Points -- Hufflepuff
25 Points -- Slytherin

At Hogwarts, giant hourglasses set in niches along one wall in a corner of the entrance hall record the points for all to see; Gryffindor's is filled with rubies, Ravenclaw's with sapphires, and Slytherin's with emeralds. Jo didn't specify, but our gemologist looked closely during her last visit and ascertained that the Hufflepuff hourglass fills with rare yellow diamonds.
As a Head of House, prefect or other authorized party speaks the words awarding or deducting points, the appropriate hourglass or hourglasses are automatically updated (PS15, OOP28, OOP3 cool .

What earns House Points?
Outstanding or Inspiring ideas, threads, posts, support and service.
Nominating others' outstanding posts or ideas (sometimes).
Entering or winning the Contests and Quizzes which open from time to time. Check the Welcome! Read me First Announcement thread each time you visit Haven. We post clues, news, and important info there and the first to read about it often gets a head start towards winning!
Finding or creating new sets of house icons and posting them usually wins House points. Check out the rules here
Answering five Harry Potter questions in a row correctly in the "Stump the Almighty Fanatic" thread.
The Fanatic has rarely answered 5 questions in a row, but if you as The Fanatic answer 10 or more questions in a row, you receive a second 5 points for your amazing feat. Period. No more than that. (In other words if your run keeps going for 20 or 30 right answers, your reward is others' jaw dropping respect at your prowess, but a total of 10 House points. Note: You have to BE the Almighty Fanatic to answer questions in that thread.
As of January First, 2008, any Havenite taking and passing the fiendishly difficult Apparation test will be awarded 10 house points! (open to six years and up only)
Designing a Guild Banner. You must PM LadyHealingHands or KimCL with the design before posting it. Read the Guidelines in our Banners sticky here
Amazing performance on the Quidditch field (usually)
Outstanding prowess in the Dueling Club, also each week an outstanding Spell of the Week is chosen and the winner receives 5 points
Who gives House Points?
A prefect may: Choose one outstanding or inspiring post or thread a week and give the poster 5 points.
A mod may: Choose up to two outstanding or inspiring posts once a week and give the posters 5 points.
Prefects and Mods, please PM Stickler Support with your choices each week.
A week runs Sunday to Sunday.
A Head of House may: Give points to any worthy and may initiate contests which give out points. Owl your Head of House to approve any contest you dream up before you post it as a contest. The Head of House will commit house points to the eventual winner(s).
Any student, including prefects if they see more than one outstanding post, may owl Stickler Support
or their Head of House with nominations for outstanding posts and the reasons. If your nomination is chosen, you may or may not receive 5 points, but for sure you WILL receive 10 points if you nominate a worthy who is chosen who is NOT a member of your house. (For the first person to PM Stickler Support suggesting that post).
Students are invited to propose ideas for contests, etc in this thread or to any Head of House, and are likely to earn points by doing so.
For inspiration, check the post above from time to time to see the points given out currently and the reasons they were awarded!
HOW to get House Points
The best way to get House points when you've achieved them is to PM Stickler Support. If your points don't appear on the Points Awarded after a week, notify your Head of House and/or one of your prefects.
How to nominate someone for House points:
1. Look up the student's house in the Hogwarts Houses sticky in the main forum if you don't know it. If they're not listed, they aren't eligible for house points.
2. Owl (PM) Stickler Support or your Head of House with the student's name, house, thread (with URL if you can), and the reason you think they deserve recognition. If you haven't heard back in a few days, you might need to follow up and contact your prefect or PM a different Head of House, in case one of us has a computer down, is in the midst of mid-terms or is out of town, etc.
Since the mods and Head of House can't patrol everywhere, we rely on the help of our members to find point-worthy posts and actions. Don't assume we've seen it, please owl Stickler Support or your Head of House if you spot something outstanding--and it might just bring you, as nominator, House points as well!
What earns demerits?
Demerits can be given to posts that are at least one week old but no older than two weeks old as follows:
Posts less than 3 sentences that have more than 5 spelling errors, and/or excessive illiteracy (failure to capitalize, etc) can have 5 points taken from their house total. Repeat offenders risk banning. Longer posts are given a little more leniency, but the less errors the better.
Chatterbox posts are exempt from demerits.
Role Playing posts are not, although they may be in the future.
Any student may PM Stickler Support to report a post a week old that is illiterate.
Any student may PM the poster as soon as they notice an illiterate post so the poster (your housemate?) may edit and correct the post before it brings their House demerits.
What is the reward if my House wins the Cup??!?
The House Cup trophy gets posted in your Common Room until it is next awarded! Each member of the house will have a miniature House Cup to post on their profile or in their signature (look in the first post of your Common Room for the code) The Top points winners in each House will receive something special! (TBA- To Be Announced) The 2nd highest Points winner of each house will receive 5000g!The top 3 points winners from each house plus the top FIVE points winners from the Winning House will be entered into a drawing for a spectacular prize (TBA)
