Well...hearing that makes me think I'm being labeled as a conjurer. Every time I try to fit in any sort of forum they think I'm trying to take over the world or something. Either that, or that I'm some stupid person who is out to get people. Or...gah, people hate me!
I guess what I would like to ask: is my life basically some quest to be accepted into society? And if it is, why do I keep failing?

Simply because you have yet to find your true calling. Merely going around and attempting to fit in somewhere will yield you nothing, you have to truely understand yourself which is much harder than you might think.

If you're going somewhere just to fit in, of course it's going to be awkward. Just find something that you really enjoy (for me it's writing and animanga), and go to that forum. Don't go in there trying to be accepted, go in there because you want to talk about something you really like. After a while, you'll see that you're accepted without even realizing it.

I can honestly say that I understand. I've spent years being an outcast, both in my own family and also everyday social and work settings. I finally found that once I accepted myself, I found myself more accepted. I can not say whether my opinion of my acceptance changed, or rather that people became more accepting of me. Regardless, I am much happier being me, and thus am much happier all around. I wish you the best!

Your life is not just a quest to be accepted by society. It is about you. Finding out who you are, changing yourself only if you wish to, and if it would benefit you. I learned this one the hard way.
As for your perceived failure (I only say that because I believe that you don't fail unless you yourself believe it), it may be because, as others have posted here, you need to accept yourself for who you are. At the very least, accept yourself and your life, and things should change.

It's normal to try to find or create a "Reference Group," that is, your group of trusted friends whose opinion you actually care about. Most people also like to be trusted and respected in return. I imagine that when you are posting on Gaia, sometimes you are doing that. So what? That's not the same as "crying for attention" or trying to "fit in". You only need to fit in with your friends, the people you care about. Beyond that, you'd probably simply like not to end up in jail or any thing else that would hinder your ability to live your life as you'd like. In other words, if you try to please every one, you're screwed, so decide who's important enough to listen to.
On the other hand, sometimes if you hear something enough times you begin to believe it. That's actually how some brain washing works! wink Consider a person's possible motivation when they are speaking to you.
Unfortunately, some people think that it is all about them. If you're talking or posting where they can hear or see it, you're talking to them, and therefore you're trying to get their attention. Goodness forbid you might actually express a somewhat controversial opinion. Then you're just "looking for a reaction."

Uhh... If it's your life's ambition to hide in a dark cave, I see nothing wrong with that, save the obvious...
Well, I know quite a few people who aren't the spotlight kind of people. They don't like the front seat of attention, so I guess it depends on who you are.

I'm just snagged about it...not like I'm desperate for attention, but sometimes this just makes me feel so alien... gonk
