i am getting mine done soon too, and i smoke. you have to quit or it can get infected, take longer to heal, and other problems. I would wait untill you have stoped smoking

Smoking yes is bad... I would suggest you stop smoking before you get your tounge peirced.... if you don't it will get magerally infected...

I know people who smoke. You don't have to quit COMPLETELY.
I just called the piercist and he said just cut down.

My mom and dad have their tongues pierced and are getting me one for Christmas, so here's a few pointers:

1) Slow down on the smoking, you don't have to quit all together, but it helps stop infection.
2) Don't eat spicy or hard foods for about a week. My mom learned that the hard way, tongue swelled twice it's size.
3) Brush your teeth more than normal. Again, to stop infection. I'd advise brushing after every time you eat, even if it's only a small snack.

Just some suggestions. Nothing definite. My uncle also had his pierced, but he did a lot of stuff your not supposed to do and was fine. I guess it's all a matter of luck and such.

Not everyone's goes like that. I have family who've smoked for years and are 40 with the skin of a 25 year old.
I know alot of people who are the opposite though.

Its okay. People are different.
My family have good skin genetically. Like most girls around my age had lots of spots through puberty and I only get tiny barely noticeable ones and blemish free skin.
